Lemmy was one of the best people I've ever known. Intelligent, no ego, and once you got to know him you could see past the personna of the rock Icon. He was a big fan of WWll history, which in one aspect we shared. I was fortunate to work with Motorhead several times during tours, and one of my greatest memories was trying to keep up with him drinking. That was a hard prospect! R.I.P, Lemmy, you are gone but never forgotten...
Lemmy was a very intelligent man. He could talk for ages about history. A guy who was a lot more than a heavy rock singer. There was so much more to him. He lived his life how he wanted to, and took no bullshit from anyone.
Nothing to add. A Rock of integrity and truth. A beautiful man with a very functioning bullshit detector. I learned so much from you Lemmy. I love you man!
Great comment I was lucky to meet and speak with him after a show at a topless bar I suggested one night drinking a little bourbon. He said it is nice to talk to someone who knows whats really going on. aaaaaaaaaaaaacomming from alemmymade me feel very good. I told him Motorhead is considered or lableed a hard rock or metal band with good reason but I am mostly a Gen X surf punk and think Motorhead has a good ZPunk sound as well with some of my favorite songs you do. He smiled and nodded yes. After I heard him say in an interview "If not for our long hair you may think we were a punk band. Then finding out he knew and played with WendyO Williams of zThe Plazmatics and knew and played with and does a song called Ramones why he liked the comment and said that I think. He was aGreat person! IMO
lemmy, , what can we say mate you were a true legend and always will be, your up there or down there with the best of the best, never to be forgotten. rest in rock brother till we meet again.
An international treasure! A one of a kind. A poet, a buccaneer, a rock n roller like few others. We miss you Lem! Last (and one of the best) of a kind!
Motörhead was punk, metal but mainly ROCK N ROLL. He’s one of the main reasons why I’m listening to Elvis, chuck berry and 50’s rock n roll in general. He did affect every band from punks to metal heads, even greasers/rockabillies with his music. He and Slim Jim Phantom of the Stray Cats both formed the rock n roll band the Head Cat together. RIP Lemmy, Phil, and Eddie. Hail the classic Motörhead line up! The REAL MOTÖRHEAD!!
Typical journalist way... Try to dig something negative... Just listen what that man has to say without asking stupid questions! Lemmy was who he was by choice and that's the way we will remember him! RIP Lemmy!
It's not always like that when journos ask seemingly stupid question, sometimes the reason is because there's a lot of uninformed people out there who would buy into the negative stereotypes, by asking questions that seem stupid or negative to those that know, it prompts and gives a chance to the interviewee to address those issues and inform the uninformed.
A free spirit. Music needs more like him. We have to stop idiots like Simon Cowell and Justin Bieber ruining the music industry. It used to take sales of 300,000 to get in to the top ten. Now you can get to number 1 with sales of 30,000 including download sales. People are sick of the crap that the majors are putting out now. Music is for the people not the industry. RIP dude
Saw them on their Ace of Spades tour and got to meet them at a signing session which was cool because I can say that I have meet the great man himself Lemmy. A one of a kind and will be sorely missed. You and Phil and the like will be having a great jam session on the over side.Respect,RIP
I've seen Motorhead more than any other band because they were such a hard working band and on the road all the time that there was the opportunity to see them. But even with their relentless schedule they put everything into every show. Lemmy had such immense presence on stage, you could feel how much he loved performing. It always took about 3 days after seeing them for my ears to stop ringing. It's a sad loss but he lived his life to the fullest.
The one person who inspired me to play bass. I know this was over 4 years ago... but I still tear up because he was the one person to get me to do something with my life. *R.I.P. brother* I’ll meet you up there eventually. 😔😔😔
Joel McIver gives a great interview here giving us a view on the man behind the image, few people knew Lemmy beyond the Ace of Spades....he was a truly unique person and a true gentleman...
Typical metal show back in my youth.the early 1970's....opening band has short set, main band comes on does the fast song, the slow song, the hit song, ballad about being on the road missing your baby followed by solo's of the greatest in the world guitarist, drummer bassist. And every concert the same thing, by the mid 70's it was beyond a joke. Its no wonder Punk became popular among many metal heads. Punk had the fury, creativeness and none of the cliche bullshit of metal. Still I missed the utter bombast of Metal. Then there's Motorhead Motorhead stripped down to the basics, pure unadulterated Metal. Like a stripped down hot rod or pure white lightning whiskey. It was a winning basic formula. Many other Metal bands took up on this 'Speed Metal' at the time, few survived. They didn't have Lemmy. Lemmy was a constant source of energy, a natural who could keep it going endlessly. His music affected everyone who was in ear drum busting shot of it and created a legacy of bands who spread this cancer of pure rock to the mass's like a zombie invasion.
One thing I like about him is his complete dismissal of anyone or any agenda to shame anyone or make them feel bad. Never let anyone hold the floor in a discussion and find a polite way to tell them to f-off when they do.
Yes, well said. He was an intellectual who refused to accept the choices a lot of us are given. He was an avid reader, and a great writer. Listen to: "Mamma I'm coming home", that shows his writing talent. Jimi Hendrix roadie, that's a guy who lived a long time, and knew a lot. Rest in Peace, Lemmy. I'll miss you.
Excellent interview with a great perspective of Lemmy. He was a rockstar and yet a gentleman at the same time. Anyone who knows anything about rock music should KNOW how beloved Lemmy was and is to this community. Truly an inspiration to myself and many other people. A true legend.
He had the speed of punk, the loudness of metal, and the voice that said anyone can sing if I'm here. And again Motörhead - Lemmy, Wizzo, Wurzel & Philthy - thanks for playing in McAllen Texas back in 1988. Aching Ring in my ears for days after but I'll never forget you guys.
Lemmy tell you something. I am thankful a band like motörhead existed and that they made so many records. Rock n Roll to all the fans now, and to those who will one day discover the man and the band and be greatly enlightened by it.

I can’t believe it’s almost been 8 years since the passing of Lemmy? My dad partied with Lemmy when he was part of the road crew for AC/DC years ago? And we all grew up very fond of bands like Motörhead AC/DC Black Sabbath Dio pretty much you name it we heard it and there was 6 of us. I was just 18 when Lemmy passed he’s the reason I wanna be a bassist I don’t have a Rickenbacker but I do have a fender p bass it needs A LOT of work done to it. I can’t afford a Rickenbacker but one day I will but Fenders are good too not as good as Rickenbacker but it’ll help me get the “Bass-icks” of a bass down and learn some Motörhead and I also have my dads old guitar and the one he got me before he died in 2020. (Rock in peace dad with Bon Lemmy Tina Janis Malcolm and George Young and Ronnie James Dio and way too many to come and who have passed! It's true what the author is saying, although Lemmy did live the Rock & Roll lifestyle, he never succumbed to it like, to use a recent example, Scott Weiland plus many more whose lives fell apart due to alcohol and/or drug abuse.
Did they cut the interview short? That was an abrupt ending... I like me what the guy said and that the news actor finally called Lemmy a "renaissance man".
When a cool DJ plays all kinds of rock and gets a few Motorhead tunes in, you'll probably like one or two. I think bands like MH & Sabbath are the kind that every metalhead is expected to worship. Sometimes it's the crazy antics that draw people in than the music itself.
Caryn D Prescott It just seems that people jump on the bandwagon when someone dies. Ace Of Spades has sold more copies since Lemmy died than at any time since it's release 35 years ago.
+matthew bailey That's very true. It happened with John Lennon. Recently people were snapping up vinyl copies of the latest Eagles Of Death Metal album. Someone on Amazon commented that it'll be a hit *and* a collectible for the wrong reasons.
+matthew bailey I started listening to Motorhead when I was in high school. I'm only 24 now. Fortunately I still got to see them in concert twice here in Texas, when Lemmy was 64 and 65 years old. They were both excellent shows, unforgettable, and popped my concert cherry in the best way possible. But when I became a hardcore fan and looked at Lemmy's life, I said to myself, "There's no way Lemmy's going to live for much longer -- I'm amazed that he's lasted this long." I had to accept it because I knew it would come relatively soon, but I continued to enjoy them while they lasted. Lemmy once said that it's silly folks respect other people more when they're dead, but frankly I'm glad that more people are recognizing Lemmy for his one-of-a-kind character and excellent music.

I think Motorhead has a good Punk sound or influence in some of my favorite songs you have. The good Punk you can understand the lyrics from. Not the thrash stuff you cant. He smiled and nodded yes hearing that. I heard him say in an interview I saw on YT after. If not for our long hair you might think we were a Punk Band. I also learned he knew The RAMONES and Wendio Williams of The PlasMATICS. and more. He is in the bettter place I believe It IS ALL ROCK AND ROLL!
too many these days sell an image of hard living rock n rollers and don't actually live the life, they're all millionaires sipping the latest gwyneth paltrow green smoothie, which is ok but be honest about it, you get the feeling it wasn't a career for lemmy, it was a lifestyle, he lived it!

I to;ld Lemmy I understand Motorhead is labeled a Hard Rock or Metal Band for good reason. However I like it and am A Gen X So Cal Surf Punk. I also learned he knew The RAMONES and Wendio Williams of The PlasMATICS. and more. He is in the bettter place I believe It IS ALL ROCK AND ROLL!
a great honest descent bloke . he told you how it was . you did not like it that was just to bad . you alwsys had the option to go somewhere else .
Sad he died, i loved Kiss.
too many these days sell an image of hard living rock n rollers and don't actually live the life, they're all millionaires sipping the latest gwyneth paltrow green smoothie, which is ok but be honest about it, you get the feeling it wasn't a career for lemmy, it was a lifestyle, he lived it!
yeah like the BBC loved Lemmy!
Joel was right he did have a rock n roll lifestyle but he never spoke about the women because he was gentleman
