His music is so incredibly psychedelic. I know he was in “Acid Bath” which I have come to believe isn’t the oxidizing agent. I think it’s LSD. Being a huge psychedelic fan, the experiences resonate with his vocals. I’ve had some jaw dropping experiences listening to his work while under the influence. I’m surprised he didn’t say psychedelic folk metal.
Yeah when i went to go see him live in chicago, he was sitting down at the bar and we were all drinking. I never expected that voice out of his body compared to how he sings. But that just puts a "don't judge a book by its cover" on his face. He's very docile, and short. But he is a very peaceful guy. He also knows how to throw down a few Lone Star beers and a few shots too! Great guy to hang out with.
honestly if you dont understand where he's coming from, you just arent as smart as him. he's awesome and if you are one of the people that commented saying hes fried or make fun of him you dont fuckin get him.

I met him in Jacksonville at a club called Jack Rabbits. I don't think it was long after Say Goodnight to the World was released. He was sitting alone at the bar drinking a beer. I was stunned at all the people milling around him, seemingly oblivious to the man they came to see. I talked to him for a few minutes, told him how much If This is Hell Then I'm Lucky meant to me ( He wasn't happy with that album). He was cool. No Rockstar attitude. I look back on those few minutes very fondly.
Great video. I wish they had asked if he would ever put out something similar to the likes of acid bath, or even gorgatha again. Dax, I get it. You've matured as a person and a musician. I like almost everything you've done, but can you please, for the sake of all that is beautiful in this world and beyond, fuckin tear it up like its 1994 one more time!!! Nobody has a voice/scream like that, and combined with incredibly grotesque yet mesmerizing lyrics..shit. No words can describe it. Fucking incresible..ear orgasms, that's all I can say..ear orgasms
Not sure why it didn't happen, but the writing chops and overall sonics of acid bath leads me to the belief that their core songwriting dynamic should have led to MASSIVE success in the post Pantera metal era... Too bad they called it quits, and that their writing magic wasn't recaptured. His singing style was tragically understated when listening to today's sing/scream garbage. He actually made it sound awesome.
I'm not sure they could have made it truly big or even close to mainstream back in the 90s, probably not even today truthfully. A lot of the lyrics are too disturbing and transgressive, and the music flirted with death and black metal, in an authentically dark way... They're destined to just be an incredible gem of the underground for all time, I think, and that's not a problem. They don't have to be mainstream. They're very special in a completely different kind of way.
Preferences, huh? It’s “garbage” to you, but fortunately many, many feel differently. Yes, while Dax is in his own league, a number of vocalists do it effectively and sound GREAT. Plus worth noting: many Metal fans credit a band like Fear Factory for starting that whole scream/sing style, but even that’s debated. These folks with an appreciation for today’s stuff have no taste? Well, music snobs gonna music snobs. With that said, as woefully (100%) underrated as both Dax and Acid Bath may be, it’s VERY doubtful they would have been MASSIVE. Successful in their own right? Perhaps. But super hard to see them reaching Pantera levels as great as they were. Though even back in the day, a critic (and not a negative one) suggested that a song like “Venus Blue” could have been a legit hit had its lyrics not been so… brutal. Now while people should be able to separate imagery from sound if you will, fact is Dax wrote some pretty gnarly stuff. But to add to what crawlingamongthestars said, their music didn’t exactly scream mainstream. Now it could be that they were really ahead of their time and many people just weren’t prepared for their music, though even today it seems like they don’t quite get the recognition they deserve. Still, who knows how bigger they could have gotten had Audie not died and Dax decided to keep going (mind you, he was losing interest in writing heavier stuff). Anyway, one can make several arguments as to why they didn’t get the respect they deserved by many back then and blame whatever, but ehhh…
I feel like most people who have experienced a certain kind of trip can easily relate to his views. You never quite feel as human as you did when youve looked within while in those moments. Sadly it fades if you're not surrounded in the right environment.

WE smoke the toenails and hair
Of the wiseman
Under a black god's thumb
We dance like painted puppets
She bleeds orgasm in techni-color
An ocean of alien mystery
We eat the wiseman's eyes
For sight that we might
See the darkness if we kill
The lights fast enough
We eat the brain and pray
That our eyes can open wide enough
We burn the dry shell, a funeral chant
The pulse quickens and we dance
As the blossoms fall
A scattering of dust to the winds
This celebration of old skin
I feel every flower that is
Screaming to consume you
The earth and sky your cradle
The earth and sky entomb you
So is the way of forever
Teeming with simple cruelties
Beatings in cold rooms
Hands and head not found
