Andrew has created a slide show and presentation that helps all of us more clearly understand the overwhelming problems with the BOA translation and Joseph Smith's claim to have translated it from Reformed Egyptian.
Andrew's comprehensive slide presentation takes us through this translation process step by step, to help us understand the multiple problems and discrepancies that exist in what is supposed to be a prophetic translation of a record written by Moses' own hand.
Once you understand the real meaning of the characters and the drawings, it becomes obvious Joseph Smith did not translate this papyri correctly by any stretch of the imagination. This creates a big problem for the Pearl of Great Price and the LDS church itself.

After reading FAIR Mormons explanation of the book of Abraham is what caused me to say “no more”.
While I was deconstructing, I had a conversation with the TBM apologist in my life who knew all the issues, and still had faith. We talked over lunch every week for almost a year, and we spent a fair bit of time discussing the Book of Abraham. His argument was that all of the extant manuscripts that connect Papyrus Fragment XI to the BoA English translation were an after-the-fact production, the characters were decorative, or that the scribes were trying to reverse-engineer the Egyptian language from the translation that Joseph gave them. He also was quite convinced of the missing long-scroll theory.
The content you showed about Facsimile 2 is such a HUGE deal to me, because this is the unassailable proof that Joseph himself connected Fragment XI with the Book of Abraham, as he copied something like 24 characters from what we know for sure is the Breathing Permit of Horus into Facsimile 2. If the Breathing Permit is just unrelated to the BoA, I need to see a rational argument for why long strings of characters from it made their way into the hypocephalus. This is the smoking gun inside the smoking gun, and makes the conclusions drawn from looking at the translation manuscripts inescapable.
The way that you have shown exactly where the characters came from on the papyrus, how you rotate them, and then where they end up, and you directly contrast side-by-side what's in Facsimile 2 today with photos of each set of characters from Fragment XI, makes it so easy to see and understand what Joseph clearly hoped that nobody would never notice.
Thank you so much for your work, and making this presentation available in video form. The Mormon Stories episodes with Dr. Ritner are a little long for digestion, and Dr. Vogel is also very prolific in terms of what he puts out. I think there is immense value in how you have taken all of the best arguments and evidence about the BoA, and condensed it into this single exhaustive document with visual aids (which are as stated, absolutely crucial to understanding). In my opinion, it is not an overstatement to say that you have single-handedly taken all of the prior scholarly work on the Book of Abraham, and weaponized it by making it approachable and digestable. Your time and effort is so appreciated!!!

I had physically left the church due to a multiple of reasons yet I still would think” Well maybe someday I can do it and it will make sense” At age 70 after 35 years absent I was looking for a women’s group and found Mormon stories and they were interviewing Mr Rittner. It was a challenge but I listened. I went to my BOM and looked at the published date…. 2017!!!!!!!

My shelf broke with the baseball baptism era which I got clued into before I went to England. I got to see a little bit of the aftermath. My pre-mission boss told me about his English mission. His only job was going from town to town advertising for any people that got tricked into baptism. He gathered the names and the church excommunicated them by the thousands. It made me ashamed.

Well, you see that Joseph was really chaneling Abraham from another dimension where there was an alternative Egypt the Egyptian was really reformed. Anyway, I am sure that if you take literally Moroni's promise, it will all make sense.

I showed an old mission buddy a number of blatantly false prophecies from various prophets and apostles. His reasoning was that they were indeed fulfilled, just in another multiverse. When you have to hold on to your beliefs, you’ll grasp any argument you can. Like they said in the video, when you argue from lack of evidence, you never run out of more lack of evidence 😂

the Book of Abraham is proof Joseph Smith was a prophet. No one could have known what the text is about unless he was given the power to translate.

The Egyptian language and technology for papyri and ink making had changed so much between the 9th and 1st centuries BC, this would be like receiving an e-mail in modern English from King Henry III today. Abraham was entombed 30 miles from Jerusalem-800 years prior to this funerary text being written-where his remains are to this day. Expecting members to believe and defend this delusion is abusive.
