Some excellent points, but I disagree on the 33:33 point "words cannot express" types of lines. Noting where words fail to capture experience is something found in many thinkers and writers who have tested the limits of human language--Shakespeare, Kant, Wordsworth, Shelley, Emerson, Wallace Stevens, Thomas Beckett, Lacan--to name a few. The ineffable is also a sentiment found in the Old and New Testaments (likely the inspiration of these lines for Joseph Smith.) I wouldn't necessarily call these verses clickbait or manipulative gaps. Ex-Mo here; not defending the B of M, but just adding a counterargument. I appreciated the "hundreth part" incomplete list. It's surprising to see just how many references of this type there are, even for a reader who is aware of the claims to missing parts.

This is totally an anachronistic reference to Paul (1Cor 2:9) in 3rd Nephi: 16 ...The eye hath never seen, neither hath the ear heard, before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Jesus speak unto the Father; 17 And no tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things

To alleviate my guilt when I first started deconstructing, I made a list of sus things about the church. Number one on my list was that they never have to deliver on anything that they promise. Thank you so much for this episode! It is one of my favorite ex-mormon podcasts that I've ever listened to (out since 2019). 11:20 so there’s occasionally a debate among ex-Catholics like me on whether the phrase “once a Catholic, always a Catholic” is true or not and although it’s easy to walk away it’s close to impossible to completely take your name off the records because the Vatican won’t do that even if you’re excommunicated (unless you live in some parts of Europe where you have to pay taxes TO the Church, Germany in particular, where there is a process to formally leave so you don’t have to pay those taxes anymore but you won’t be getting any services as a result). On the other hand unless you go to one of the more high demand parishes like I did if you end up leaving probably hardly anyone will notice about it and no one will come to your door, for many of us it’s a matter of how highly inflated the number of adherents the Catholic Church claims to have (and I’ve heard the same from ex-Mormons regarding the LDS church and it’s claim of having 17 million members).

It is more interesting to read about the Book of Mormon than to read it. I've tried to read it but it is just too tedious.

Quit Mormon has submitted more than 140,000 resignations since 2016! (Breaks down to approx 17,500 on average per year) That’s NOT including other avenues of resignation - wow And those are the ones that are actually removing their names! Think of how many more are just walking away and not removing or not ready to remove their names. I would estimate the church is losing at LEAST 20,000 people on average every year.

He's quite critical of Dogma driven "Academics" because they are often damaged by required apologetics which are ruined with many fallacious statements. Richard Carrier is blunt about the problem. Dan McClellan has a far more diplomatic way of stating it and has his tagline: "The data doesn't fit the Dogma." Carrier's book was subjected to academic peer review. How much of BYU Academic studies just get school Dogma approval and make academic claims, but don't get subjected to the academic peer review process? We know what Robert K Ritner (RIP) presented with Dr. John Dehlin concerning the Abraham revelation/translation in July of 2020. And how other Church approved "Academics" to this day misrepresent Dr. Ritner's work and will try to beat you over the head with their degree like it's a weapon of knowledge... yes, I have had the Cavalry come at me hard... and then delete their condescending commentary. To not sustain bad Apologetics is Apostasy in Mormonism... that's why I am a 4 on Dawkins scale any more.

🤔The Church officially apologized for Mountain Meadows Massacre. It pails in comparison to the Bear River Massacre and other decimating attacks on Native people as they expanded through the west. There's barely a historical marker for Bear River Massacre. They need to stop pretending that we're saying "mormons get their own planet" so they can say "no", when their full answer would be "No, we get innumerable planets, not just one". They question everyone's TRYING to ask is "do mormons believe their will become gods who will rule over other worlds in the next life?", to which any honest member of the church would be required to answer "yes! It's crazy how many people fear indoctrination from schools and universities, but support and encourage indoctrination from churches and politicians.

I believed this church was true with every fiber of my being. It was crazy how sure I was of everything it taught. I served as Primary President, Young Women’s President, and in the Relief Society. It was while serving in these callings I learned that the entire church is made by men, for men. The SEC findings, the CES letter, SA cover ups, racism, and homophobia caused my shelf to shatter.

I went through the temple in the 80's. I was single and going on a mission and I HATED that I had to vow to my husband. But changing it is a bigger problem because God is the same today, yesterday, and forever. Temporary commandments was never a thing, until they had backlash from members. They're just back-pedaling.
