Editors Note: Yes, there are more than 5 plants in the video.. and Yes there are more than 10 plants in the 10 Herbs Kit. The eternal struggle to get Doc Jones to pick only 5 of his best plant-friends is ongoing...We'll keep you updated if we can ever get him to whittle it down 🤣
Thank you! I put cayenne in my coffee every morning. It’s a great pre workout too!!! Gets you sweating! If anyone is thinking about the school it’s amazing and offers so much great information. I’ve made medicine for family and friends. Wonderful!
I immediately thought of you saying 'if I could only have 5 herbs ..'😊I need herb help!! I killed my comfrey, some Oregon grapes, currant, salal, fern.... I'm in SW Oregon. Heavens.
You killed comfrey? Wow! I thought that was impossible! I planted comfrey years ago and haven't touched it, besides cutting leaves, no watering it or fertilizing and it grows like crazy! Maybe you're offering too much 'help' to your plants? Seriously though, plant a piece of comfrey root outside and just let it be for a year, you'll never be able to get rid of it.
@TheWidypierre ive heard that about mint. But I've killed both mint and comfrey i tried promoting after separating. It didn't grow well in planters but in and elevated raised bed it's massive. Happens with mint, some place I grow it, it explodes, other places seems it struggles to survive. I think you can kill just about any useful plant. I know when I was told mint was hard to kill, I thought I had q black thumb for growing, and didn't get into growing anything until a few years later. At the time I had tried the pot mint u buy in produce section, that's what I also killed. It was very discouraging when my friend is like you killed mint, you literally toss on ground and it grows everywhere.
Two questions for Doc Jones - Q1: With all of the herbs you mentioned in this video, can all be made into a tincture? Q2: There are wild squirrels in my backyard that are showing symptoms again, of squirrel pox. I started putting putting colloidal silver in the water dish I leave out for them, and yes I refresh it too. Two very young squirrels (5 months old and from the same litter) each had a large pox on their ears but once I started putting colloidal silver in the water it cleared up, within 20 days! This was back in July 2024. Very recently though (October 2024), I again noticed two young, and again around 5 months old, who have pox starting around their eyes. I've seen the disease progress on other young squirrels and they were covered in pox. It was awful and those ones didn't make it. Is there anything else I could add to their water or should I just stick with colloidal silver? Thank you.
When my grandkids were little, they would beg me to make dandelion fritters. They picked the flowers and helped twirl them in the batter and cook them. Good memories.
Wow, maybe I should’ve use plantain on my foot before I use comfrey see I’m winging it?? I have got to take your class. I’m waiting to see if you ever have another sale
I've got to get back to the course. Due to unfortunate circumstances, I had to take a break but hadn't picked it back up. This makes me SO GLAD (amongst other reasons), that I chose this school. :) No time limit.
Hi 👋 so thankful for all you do. I have learned so much from your school! I will go back when I’ll finished and start it all over again! So glad I found THE HOMEGROWN HERBALIST! ❤❤❤
, I truly believe comfrey has amazing capabilities yet you can’t put it on an open wound that possibly may be infected because it will not draw out the infection. It will seal it in. I learnt this the hard way, this past summer my toe was amputated by my horse and I was bare foot so lots of bad bacteria and I wanted it to heal faster but I only got a setback because there was an unseen infection in the toe, so they had to do surgery remove a joint & open it up. Allow the infection to drain. I had to discontinue the comfrey until after the infection has subsided, and there was no openings.
I have a question about the efficacy of black-eyed susan vs purple coneflower. I constantly hear that black-eyed susan isn't as potent. Is this true, and if so is it even by a measurable amount or is it not enough to even worry about? I've started making our own tinctures and didn't know if it would require a larger dose to make up for any perceived differences. Thanks!
Doc, I had to replay this part a couple of times. @7:40 you state that "..echinacea suppresses hyaluronic acid which is important at rebuilding tissue.." Don't you mean to say the echinacea suppresses the venom that destroys the hyaluronic acid? Please school me. Thanks!
What discipline you have to stop where you did. When I start talking about herbs i get diarrhea of the mouth. The plants you mentioned are in my apothecary. I use infusions of plaintain and calendula for all my topical skin care from foaming castile hand soap to drawing salve and antibacterial salve. But then I would have to mention usnea, oregano. And who doesnt love mullien or self heal, lavender, yarrow. And awayyyyyy I go. I'm sure many who are not passionate about alternative medicine would have glazed over eyes at this point.

In my defense, there are only three kinds of people in this world; those who can count and those who can’t.
Doc

I immediately thought of you saying 'if I could only have 5 herbs ..'😊I need herb help!! I killed my comfrey, some Oregon grapes, currant, salal, fern.... I'm in SW Oregon. Heavens.
The best kept secret of gardeners is that they kill more plants than they grow 😅 You just need to keep planting and growing ❤❤❤❤❤

You can’t kill comfrey. It’s impossible 😅. I love that plant. You can feed your chickens and in the garden

I use camomile for a steam for my face

Regarding echinacea flower - use just the petals or the middle seed portion too? ( Presume I dry it before use?)

What about comfrey and cancer?
Is a chamomile tincture or tea better for kidney restoration?
@@MySuewho either one is good. Nettle seed is good too. Look at the kidney builder formula.
@HomeGrownHerbalist thanks a bunch!!
I have 5 or 6 different breeds of thistle that i wish were medicinal, then I'd be less grumpy with them. Lol
My daughter makes dandelion jelly
