No matter how often I come back to this, I'm always blown away. I especially love the way Lanois manages to put each of the musicians on a pedestal while he builds up exactly the tight ensemble sound that he wants... pretty neat trick
Darryl always brings an A+ game to the bandstand. Ive known him a good long while and I’m enriched by his musicianship, energy and heart of gold. Some of my fondest times back in Cali were playing with D. He’s my brother from a different mom and dad. CF I know I’m responding to an old post here but if you are in touch with D please send love from Dave. He’ll put the curtisunit part together.
Darryl Johnson is a treasure. I couldn’t agree more. Been fortunate to know him a good long while. Heart of gold. He’s an incredibly disciplined bassist and singer in equal degree with taste to spare. He was the Nevilles for a long time. He played hand drums on Peter Gabriel’s Up album🎖🎖
He takes Jim Wilson on the road now as near as I can tell. Fellowship is killer. San Francisco NEEDS to get it together since lockdown. WE were looking forward to The May 20th show at the Independent. I'd love to get Buddy Guy & Mssr Lanois together soon - especially as this is Buddy's LAST TOUR & He's 86 on July 30th.
Absolutely - I saw him perform with Emmylou and Brady Blade in Wellington, New Zealand a few years ago. Apart from their amazing playing, they let you know they are enjoying it too. Best concert I have ever seen.
It was seeing this performance on tv many years ago that turned me on to Lanois. Great song, great peformance - i've always loved the bass line and lyrics in particular. I strongly recommend the entire album "Acadie" that this song appears on. great when Brady joins in and grooves his butt off.
OH RIVER RISE FROM YOUR SLEEP!!!...mustve seen this video a couple of hundred times...recorded it on vhs when it was broadcast .....think it mustve been around 15 years ago? approx. still get the chills... great shit
You Tube and FaceBook are absolutly amazing,,,it's because of these 2 social networking sites, that I was able to reconnect with Daryl. It had been about 20 years or more since we were last in touch and now it's EVERY single day...man this has really been a blessing!
BEST VERSION OF BEST SONG, OF BEASTLY CREATIVE GUITAR HERO, WRITER & SINGER; RESPECT DANIEL LANOIS Admiration of bestowed gifts fromheaven. Daniel,Dude ,come to Argentina...play for us ....
I have a old VCR tape of the W 54 sessions that I bought year ago. It is followed by Building the Wrecking Ball. I'm not sure why it was never released but it is a shame as all emmylou fans should see it.
One of my favorite songs ever.. it is deep.. deeper and expresses the inexpressible... .... wow, where did he find this. ... love the lyrics and bass player.. ....louis
Great version. I'm waiting for someone to post all of the Emmylou and Spyboy Wrecking Ball Sessions at W 54th. That was amazing. I think it was Deeper Well among others that Lanois guested on and played one of my fav solos ever. Total controlled chaos.
Daryl Johnson, I would like for you to have my baby!!!! That bass line makes this song so sweet. Even EmyLou can't compete. Of course, Blady and Dan...they have their moments. Thank you all so much !!!! Rock on!
@abcforall ...with LOTS od Patience and Just plain determination. We come from a strong Louisiana Creole Bloodline and there's not many of us left. For those of you interested in contacting Bass Player D. Johnson: dj50blackdub@yahoo.com...all email/fan mail will be answered personally
I like this version, but Daniel is singing and playing very much out of tune, quite the whole time, and Emmylou too, so I'm thinking the sound may be bad up there.
that Daryl Johnson's bass groove is the driver for this classic
No matter how often I come back to this, I'm always blown away.

L😊
The bass player is my nephew, Daryl Johnson...Brilliant...no?
Undoubtedly he’s brilliant... butunbelievably, on this stage he’s merely average!
So, I saw Your nephew several Times, with Emylou and the Neville Brothers.
Brilliant indeed!
Fantastic, one or the best!!

A Daniel Lanois masterpiece, few in music reach this pinnacle, but I always go back to that bass sound,: I know why lanois likes that musician. Louis

Everyone in a band needs to watch this. This is how you build a song
The festival. Last act, last evening. Rocked out, sang so sweet, shut the festival down. Perfectly.
Where it seems to have germinated from. We stayed in my truck and made out for a few revolutions of 'Acadie'
Soulful beauty in "The Maker".Truth about what is most meaningful as a believer.Acadian treasure of the heart.Thank you Daniel.

Daniel Lanois & Friends (and good ones!). Man, this guy knows how to build a song.

Well, it don't get any better! That's for sure!
Good God, didn't expect that! I think I'll just stop surfing for awhile. Was just searching on Emmylou and ended up here. Pretty sweet.

Aye! Respect Pike and SALUTE Daryl. THIS is the definitive bass line for this song, the soul and heartbeat.
Please SONY....make those sessions available on BR or DVD !
One of my life's touchstones is Spyboy at the FF'00. They simply rocked, and Emmylou shut it down.
I LOVE YOU DARYL MY LOVE!!!!!!!!😘❤️😍
Superb.
Love this!
juste énorme !!!
saw Jean-Baptiste....sweet accent!
Fucking beautiful
@bigBsMom Very happy you found Daryl
Dan...thank you for your patience and kindness in dealing with D...I appreciate you!
4:55
was this Emmylou's spyboy lineup?
2 thumbs up
My God, isn't Emmy Lou beautiful?
She got more beautiful as she got older....And is a master at harmony. She never ceases to amaze me.
Heavenly.

Sounded like Brady was ending it at 3:40. Maybe his metric modulations were a bit off?
I've heard Ron sexsmith sing this....
Kills.
I like this version, but Daniel is singing and playing very much out of tune, quite the whole time, and Emmylou too, so I'm thinking the sound may be bad up there.
