I never realized what a genius this man was until 28 years later. So now i'm going to search out and listen to everything he ever was a part of that I can find.
Check out his brothers memorial celebration on Bob's page. I posted the 7 songs that were played by Dan and a few other friends of Bob's who were invited to participate .
In 89 I left school and started at the local factory. 31 years later still there. Daniel’s Acadie was a hangover cure for a kid with too much money and too little control. Take me back again Daniel.
My husband and I were lucky enough to see him perform at Tipitinas in New Orleans, in the 80's. Still the best concert we've ever been to!! Hotter than the hinges of Hell in there, but oh my, so worth it! he is amazing!
+Pamela Milligan Tippie's. that is awesome. saw black dub a year or two ago. At the gates of heaven. Dan Lanois to St Peter, 'I wrote The Maker.' St Pete says, 'Of course, right this way, Mr. Lanois...' Then it all gets fuzzy!
My French is pretty rusty after never having learned it as well as I wish I had, and it being 30 years since I didn’t learn it as well as I wished, but I believe your saying something like: Acadie is close to my heart. One (perhaps implying “I”, or “all Québécois”). will remember these historic events forever.
@@flapjackson6077 very good translation. « On » is most of the time an informal « nous » (we/us). Sometimes it can mean « one » but here it means « we ».
@@milatl Lol Thanks! If only I could understand spoken French as well as I read it. Last time I was in Quebec, some 27 years ago, I was just starting to get the hang of it, but never had the opportunity to really get immersed in the Quebecois accent.
I love how simple and yet powerful this song is...You can see how his style affected early U2....driving bass line, sustained guitar, vocal flourishes, and gospel-esqe. Awesome.
Few artist simply take my words away. Dan Lanois. Nothing to say. Really... What can anyone possibly say about a song, a voice, a melody like these? Just perfect? More than. 😘
@@mylesreed2934 without boring everyone couple years ago I convinced my sister-in-law to go on a outlaw country cruise and Albert Lee is a friend of mine. Daniel Lanois Acadie is a work of Beauty. That record will always hold up. Along with. Yellow Moon - Neville Brothers. Wrecking Ball - Emmy Lou Harris Robbie Robertson 1st Solo . R.l.P. Bob Dylan - Time Out of Mind. Lanois Beautiful Soundscape touches all those Records. Acadie is a Desert Island record no Doubt. Still Water , The Maker touches Deeply Today.
Saw this and many other brilliant up and coming artists at the Diamond Club including Tracy Chapman, Lenny Kraviitz and Sinead O'Connor. What a venue in it's day
Lanois with the performance line up (from New Orleans?) in 1990 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, how I 'd love to see them one more time perform together again! That was his best band, to my opinion
Although I've revelled to the sound of his genius guitar work for many years, I really never knew that he was a vocalist, as well. Having heard his voice now, it becomes clear to me why U2 chose him to produce two of their most famous albums: The Unforgettable Fire ('84) and The Joshua Tree ('87). It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that Bono and Co. "borrowed" a thing or two from Daniel to get to where they are.
And he was an integral part of U2 then, singing, playing guitar and drums, etc. You can hear his voice on Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, for example, as well as many others.
You guys were way cool but you're even cooler now. I loved this show ...I remember this almost inexpressible sense a sense of a change that was making music come from hearts again...heartfelt, truthful....I've been sharing, putting on, finding, listening, relistening, learning, playing, covering, singing this great song of yours now for nearly thirty years and I can still hear it and feel it like it's the first time. And I love the sense of distance and danger and mixed familiarity that took you from there to your solid showing at the Commodore for Flesh + Machine. Just hollering, #wentworthrepresent #acadie #love #respect #sugarhill ~Ben
Wow, good sound for a club date... Oh right, Daniel Lanois... lol The Diamond Club in Toronto, great club. Saw Chrissie Hynde, a young k.d. lang, and Billy Bragg there, to name a few.
Mr L, I can not believe I missed you in San Francisco on the 9th ~ Hope you make it back my way soon. How about Capitola, CA? Or maybe 37.7397° N, 122.4252° W (...and in my dreams I fly)🐞
I discovered this artist thanks to Red dead redemption 2...thanks rockstar games, for creating such an emotional Game and discovering me this great musician.
Larry Mullen Jr played drums and Adam Clayton played bass on this track in the studio. A fan of U2 since October (the album), I'd say Eno and Lanois had a tremendous influence on U2. Helped them grow you their full potential. So...my take is that Lanois is a great producer--listen to U2's pre-Lanois albums. And then listen to other albums produced by Lanois (Hothouse Flowers HOME comes to mind, Ron Sexsmith, etc.). I don't think anyone is stealing from anyone. Lanois is known for creating this particular sound. I suppose what I'm saying is Lanois producing U2, Dylan, et al., was a tremendous meeting of musical genius minds. I believe they all influenced each other. But no stealing or ripping off. ;)
I apologize for the typo. By the way, I was in no way knocking U2's early work. I still listen to those albums to this day. But Eno and Lanois definitely influenced them, and, as great producers do, helped them to expand and grow. Cheers.

Amazing!!!
Acadie is gem.... not a bad song on it.... a fantastic record, and it still holds up after over twenty years since its release...
This holds true, 8 years after your post. I think it is now safe to say that Acadie is a timeless classic.
couldn't agree more. I discovered it just last year, instanty found the cassette tape and my car trips got elevated to a new high. Incredible album.
Sure is, just found it in a box. It's been on repeat for a day.
And it still holds up 30 years later.
One of the Greatest Canadian Singer for one of the Greatest movie ever ... "Sling Blade"
Thank You Daniel Lanois for a great memory
Amazing unique organic artist. Great sound and vibe.
Great songwriter and guitarist
I like how the vibe contributes to the sound of the song rather then overshadowing it :)
Oh Yes...So fine, I try to play that soft and hard...he is a master of this beautiful sound, brilliant work of Art!
Have this on CD!! Yes, what an alum and song and video!
