She has more soul singing on just two chords of that piano than any woman in the last 30 years has done. I come back to her and this song to remind myself that desperation of love and the almost primal need for a lonely heart to have even just the touch of love or just the feeling of it close to you...even after it has ended and shattered you...is worth the pain.
The intensity, the integrity, the deep, deep passion. What I think everyone really wants is that one love, that person that loves them that much. You can hear it,you can feel the longing, the heartbreak. That isxwhat music is supposed to do. Reach in to your soul and make you feel, perhaps allow you to feel.
I think 1983 for me, walked 12 miles in total to get that LP in Maldon, Essex. And nobody else has ever heard of her. I live in a world of idiots. But I have no regrets, what a great walk to a record shop.
I remember a girl asking me to change the music when I had this on. If it wasn't ragamuffin she couldn't cope. Needless to say the music stayed in my life and she didn't.
A huge favorite of mine from way back when, and its been so long since I've played it/heard it....this live version is bringing a shitload of tears running down my cheeks....this is again hitting me hard , like it already did so many years ago..the text is unreal , Maria`s voice, soul and heart in it is straight through my heart...I feel pain , heartache and also pure joy to have `found` this pure gem back into my life. Maybe this makes little sense to you all but this is my heart typing. LOVE!
It makes complete sense, a song that can make you feel all these emotions , it's 30 years since I last had love in my life but when i listen to this it gives me a reminder of that beautiful/painful emotion. My Very best wishes
I have never listened to this song without shedding a tear. Thinking of those times when i was suffering from a shattered heart. Shivers down my spine. Music is the most heartfelt and precious way to communicate. In this case... To communicate with my deepest feelings. Thank you Maria, where ever you are ;-)
I have loved Lone Justice forever. This song is just heartbreaking. It's my go-to song when I really need to delve deep and bring my emotions to the surface. Her intensity in this song is soul-wrenching. I think she beat Alanis Morrisette to the punch on pouring out heart-wrenching emotions in a song. Maria you are brilliant. Thank you.
Been a fan since back in the early 90s when I first saw her open for U2 I thought wow look at that little girl strumming a huge guitar and belting out some killer vocals great show!
I am an old LJ fan. This song always reminds me of my son as a teen. He was a skater and it reminds mo of the sound of him practicing ollies in the drive. LJ is a Christian band that transcends labels I have not heard them for a very long time. Amazing vocals.
We will always love you, Maria.....thank you for sharing your divine talent with us. Your voice and your creative composition has been such a source of pleasure for so many of us...and made our lives a little sweeter. Very sweet and very soothing to the soul. I also miss your original Lone Justice band. You guys stole my heart with your musical charm back in '85 or '86.
As a Skateboarder of 50 years, few songs, convey the message of love quite like the sound of your wheels by Maria McKee thank you I feel the same way about you! 🙏👀💜🗽🇺🇸🕯️
It's on my bucket list to see Maria live. It would be a dream come true. I have Multiple Sclerosis and my days are numbered. Thank you Maria for the beautiful music you gave me. My life is happy when I listen to you sing. Peace and love.
Daphne: I'm so sorry to hear you're ill. I hope you're coping okay at the moment. Maria does have an incredible voice and this song should be far more widely known than it is. It's so beautiful and heart wrenching. I hope you get your wish to see her perform. I'd love to see her too!
I think Lone Justice was a very underrated band, having never reached the musical mainstream. I've loved their music since I first brought their album "Shelter" (1986) home. Then I was 18. I'll never forget them.
WOW - i just discovered this song now, i always loved Maria solo but i actually never knew she had a band and this song/performance.........im speechless! incredible vocal and etheral haunting melody/lyrics......i was too young in the 80s but if i had been older enough i would have been in love with Maria for sure.......she must have had every man following her like a dog on a leash!
The best thing of having missed bands like this when growing up is the journey of discovery…no matter how long after they were famous. The downside: I’ll never get to see them live. Anyhow…this song….wow, just WOW!
This is wonderful song and Maria always gives it her all So from the heart, the opening two lines rip you up and the rest of the song is intense and brilliant One of those songs that stays with you forever Lone Justice simply never wrote a bad song Sorely missed
Maria McKee has one of the greatest voices and has written some of the greatest lyrics over the years. She still blows my mind all these many years later.
Lone Justice was my favorite band when I was 14. Can't believe I still remember the words to this song. And how it came to be crushingly true on a personal level. Thanks Maria for amazing music.
This is the one that made me fall in love with Maria. Seeing them in concert I was awestruck with her! 3 years later I lived out this song and never got over that Love. I still hear his Wheels. Thank you Ms.Maria for writing one of my theme songs.
"I wish you never even loved me... (it) makes it so hard to live without love now". A very touching song, and indeed a well crafted opening statement. A truly beautiful and powerful song. Fantastic! I can never watch this without getting choked up.
My god, I LOVE this song so much. It's so heartbreaking and Maria puts everything into it. I always loved Lone Justice's music (Shelter, etc) and her solo stuff too. She's got such an incredible voice.
*What a brilliant performance from The Method School of Music, and Life, with all of its bumps and bruises, aches, pains and occasional joyous celebration of release or laughter, occasional.*
Saw Maria perform this last week in Dublin. Just as compelling, just as intense. Just as theatrical. She should be a global superstar. Never seen her more contented and relaxed though. Perhaps better this way 💖
Maria, wheels... keep them spinning! your voice is unique, distinct, and so beautiful! keeps those wheels in motion and the melodies ministering to those who need to hear a voice that will touch their soul!
I heart this song so gd hard it hurts. What a songstress. She feels it when she sings. That must be exhausting. But thank you, Maria, you magnificent and beautiful wailer. My heart cries with you, sister!
She still breaks this one out in 2015. It doesn't sound dated at all. It has that plaintive, haunting quality. If it's not dated, what was Iovine thinking when he insisted on changing this bands sound? She does, and the group probably would to, stand up through time. Shame, what a shame, what happened to them. From what I'm reading on this site, lots of people are GLAD they loved LJ back in the day! Rock on Maria!
Musicrelic, who knows what Iovine was thinking? As far as I'm concerned, he ruined them. They couldn't fight back. They were incredibly good, just the way they were. Somebody should have told Jimmy "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"! But he did, until they were.
@@kittmurphy4222 I'm certainly not going to defend what Iovine did to Maria and the rest of Lone Justice - but I'm also of the mind that Geffen Records was breathing down his neck to do whatever he had to do to make Lone Justice an international megaband ala U2, ethics, musical integrity and civility be damned. I'm not precisely sure why Geffen singled out Lone Justice for this special treatment but it's fairly well documented.
I am very happy for you! I love these guys so much and never saw them. I was around and had their LP's, but have no idea why I never got my ass down the road. Maybe cause I was in the midwest. Maria kills me. I can hardly imagine how mind blowing she was with them. I saw her twice in Austin for the '...Sin...' and 'Life Is Sweet" tours, much to my great pleasure.
I agree 10000000% Is there a part of me that thinks she could have been bigger? Sure. She is definitely that talented. But the industry was trying to turn her into something she just isn’t…. Aka Madonna, so glad they couldn’t, she’s too strong to let them control her.

Maria McKee ❤. World Class singer songwriter. World class vocalist. Shayne Fontaine on guitar... am I right ? I think so. Played with Springsteen's 92)93 band. Brilliant guitar player.
And played lead on Stairway to Heaven with the Wilson sisters at Kennedy Center honors Led Zeppelin, great performance, and got a smile from Jimmy Page
It’s 2023 and I’m still blown away when I listen to this song, the voice and intensity will always blow me away, turning 75 in March too 😊

You should listen to her first album. Praised enough to open for U2 for 57 shows. I believe it came out in 84 or 85
I remember when this came out in the late 80’s. Still fantastic. 2024.
Me too.
I remember a girl asking me to change the music when I had this on. If it wasn't ragamuffin she couldn't cope. Needless to say the music stayed in my life and she didn't.

You chose well
Wise choice my friend…
Such a beautiful destruction of the soul!!! Her intensity is overwhelming!!!! It rips the passion of life to the bone!!! God I miss this band!!!!!

Lone Justice & The Alarm two criminally underrated bands
This is the song that sets the hook on Maria’s voice. Nobody sings with this intensity and passion….nobody!
Nobody...nobody
Love her voice, a highly underrated voice. I could listen to her all day!
Wow!!! first time I have heard this song and I nearly burst into tears. Maria opens her heart in music and it's a flood gate.
A gem of a performance, of a lesser-known song from the band's second and final album. Maria was doing this at 22 years of age - wow.

i miss this band,,, the the beauty of it,
I wish you never even loved me
It makes it so hard to live without love now
Now I know, you're often thinking of me
Sometimes I feel you so close by that
It takes all my might to keep from
Trying to track you down
I can surly keep you out of sight
Forget about the way you look
Your smile, the way you speak
But I've heard in the dead of night
Outside my window silence breaking
With the solid destination of your lonesome speed
I know the sound of your wheels
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I know the sound of your wheels
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I know the sound of your wheels
I had a handle on my sorrow
My composure was in order
If not sufficiently intact
But every reminiscent echo brings a blow
To chill my senses and my heart quakes
And tenses till those moments pass
I know the sound of your wheels
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I know the sound of your wheels
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I know the sound of your wheels
Every trace, every vision
Brings my emotions to collision
Past love's lost tokens
Every cherished thought once spoken
False hope of reconciliation
I know the sound of your wheels
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I know the sound of your wheels
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I know the sound of your wheels
