It seems the leader descriptions are generic for all civs, because we got a robot leader with a drug addiction and another who apparently had parents? 😂
Errrrrr they aaaah programmed false organic memories so the unit can function more “organically” when dealing with organics? :(
One of many ways that the game falls apart under any kind of scrutiny.
Raising the ai in a loving environment helps a ton with making sure it doesn't go rogue
Magnets are a helluva drug
@@williamgrimm2452 They may not go rogue, but they apparently do drugs!
If you click on a star, it'll display all the colonisable planets orbiting it, whether you can actually see them or not, which means that Telescope takeover and probes only need to see the actual star itself to get useful info on a system.
Oh that nice.
neat i just sstarted playing and this is a game chenger ty for the info
I do like a lot of the changes they have made to this game, especially the automatic planetary trade route thing, making the weaker worlds actually worth colonizing, even in the early game (whereas before, I would always ignore them, watch them get settled by someone else, just to flip to me later due to influence), and also the powers that should definitely speed up the early game (without burning through credits to speed up constructions).
However, I'm super disappointed about the planetary screen change, where it's just a bunch of colored hexagons, with the occasional image of mountains and stuff; while in the previous game, you could actually see the tiles on the planet, with visible water and stuff defining the edges of the "continents" (buildable area). You could visibly see how each tile correlated to a geographical area on the planet, instead of just being presented as ethereal tiles with a generic planet in the background. I can guess why they changed it (not having to render each of the "random" planetary tilesets), but it's still quite sad.
As a fan of Stellaris and CIV, this game seems amazing
I think it's closer to Civ than Stellaris, but very different to both!
@@battlemode distant worlds 2 is also great game
I have been a long time player of CIV up to VI. I am considering picking this up.
What are your thoughts? I am used to the pick a research and go.
It was always a debate of this game and Sins of a Solar Empire II.
Let me know your thoughts.
How is the multiplayer roadmap look like?
Are mods supported like Star Trek? lol
Try Endless Space 2 also, It is amazing :)
@@Ricbro85 Distant worlds 2 is a game that leaves so much to be desired, and will never live up to the potential that you feel the game has when playing it.. I have a few hundred hours in it, and it's definitely a game you can get lost in when it comes to play time, but the game is fundamentally broken in many ways unfortunately, especially when it comes to the management of various mechanics, like fleet management, ship management, even things like colony management..
Too many clicks are needed to do simple operations, and in many ways you will be fighting against the game to get it to do what you want. Simple things like viewing planets or looking for resources in the galaxy on planets that are colonized is impossible, things which Stellaris can show at a glance are difficult to view in that game, etc..
omg I resisted my urge to buy this and have been playing Galactic Civ 3 instead, but since you now showcased that it does not disappoint I can now safely get it.
Man I wont lie I really started to enjoy GalCiv3, especially once I realised how the tech tree worked just shy of a hundred hours in. Always fun out producing every other empire in the game.
Liking galciv3 is why your family really doesnt like you
The first galactic civilizations game is still one of my favorite space games, so I'm glad the new one is good.
How the hell did a robot end up addicted to drugs? What is this, Futurama?
I can't say the GalCiv series ever clicked with me. But glad you're enjoying it!
im glad your glad he is enjoying it
@@daveboz1984 I'm glad that your glad that he's glad that he's enjoying it.
@@hirocheeto7795 I am so glad to hear it! ;D
Super glad to see you doing non civ content, much as I like Civ content
But but but...
This is civ content. Technically.
I've not bought into the early access myself, but I think the people that didn't like research being hard-gated by RNG card draw had a good point. Few things are as frustrating as getting an otherwise strong start and then getting held back because the RNG refuses to give you some early linchpin tech for an extended period and gives you set after set of expensive projects that you've unlocked but don't have the infrastructure to quickly research just yet. Good RNG being an opportunity that you can take feels much better than opening the research screen and praying you haven't been punished by Bad RNG.
Never played Stellaris? You'll won't stall because you missed a specific tech you want.
@@moundnorn5435 I have 800 hours in Stellaris, and you're comparing apples to oranges. The tech tree system of Stellaris is far less linear than the one in GalCiv: tech tier advances in Stellaris count the number of techs you've researched from the previous tier, rather than being a purely linear tree. In Stellaris, you also have three parallel research trees that you're progressing in simultaneously, which all do different but equally essential things: Stellaris never puts in in a position where you have to choose between inventing a bigger ship category or gaining access to terraforming and risk being locked out of the other option until the card comes back around. In addition, getting stuck behind an early bottleneck for a specific branch of the tech tree simply because the RNG refuses to give you the option for several research cycles would be far more punishing in GalCiv than the similar situation (not getting a specific technology) is in (single player) Stellaris. GalCiv also shoehorns your empire into a specific playstyle a lot more strictly than Stellaris tends to. And when you do design a Stellaris Empire that has no use for certain technologies (i.e, an exterminator and diplomacy techs), it also adjusts the likelihood of drawing technology options that would be useless to them, sometimes even outright removing them from the draw pool.
@@moundnorn5435 You will. Nothing quite as bad in that game as only getting Mega forge tech offered by year 2230, instead of 2220 or even 2215. That;s the difference between having 30+k fleet power by year 30 or having barely 10k fleet power and get outscaled even by the AI.
@@luka188 i've had many hours in stellaris and galciv... never had an issue. You must be very special.
@@moundnorn5435 Yeah, way to go completely sidelining everything in my comment and trying to sound very clever in your reply.
Something tells me you don't build 30k fleets by 2230, and probably don't play on grand admiral. That is fine, but your comment is objectively wrong either way.
Missing techs in stellaris slows down everything, your expansion, your fleet power, your research, your economy, etc.
There are very key techs you want asap, which when you get screwed on those, it affects your game drastically, denying that with a strawman doesn't make this untrue.
v1.8 is due out this week says Frogboy. Lots of changes. Am looking forward to it.
Your favorite civ is the Yor, huh?
I love the GalCiv series, but im a Iconian player, so i guess we cant be friends.😤
comparing your korath playthru with this shows how fliexibly you shift strategies depending on the abilities of the faction you are playing. Educational.
I don't think ive ever seen such a good starting world. You should def save that seed.
Yes!!! I was waiting for you to try the game 😁
I just picked this up, currently have 9 hours and I think I've learned more watching this than I have playing my own games (including tutorial). Thank you.
I remember being disappointed by GalCiv 3's launch and then getting into Stellaris not long after. Hearing your feedback on the 4th entry makes me think I need to go give Stardock some more of my free time.
I am really interested in how the "missions" or story events play out, vs what happens in Stellaris
First time on your channel. Thanks for the video. It is good:)
My boy always goes science no matter the game! love it
Very nice! Looking forward to the next episode :D
I like this game. Hope you play some more
GalCiv 4 is on my purchase list, as is Sins of a Solar Empire 2.
But as both have been (in one case still are) Epic exclusives and I hate shyte like that, I will only get them once they are 75% off.
Exclusivity deals need to be punished.
Hi, just looking few minutes first time your video and i like this style. Good and accurate presentation of a game.
It's a nice Game but it also has it flaws. Here is still no mechanic to keep someone out of your Influence Zone / Borders and that can get annoying believe me. Also the Game offers no way to get rid of unwanted Population so if you want to play the Yor like the Lore intended (Killing Biological Life) your out of luck. But yes the foundation is nice and i hope they actually listen to the community. But then again.... the Border Issue exists basically since the first Game and got never really resoved. In Galciv4 the at least implemented the option to Diplomatically complain if someone trespasses on your teritory. But nothing keeps them from just doing it again 2 turns later.
It's been a minute since I played Gal Civ, but can't you culture-flip planets? That seems to be both the risk and the intended response to someone settling inside your empire.
So.. like real life?
@@eldonlol1623 yes culture is used as a weapon in this game, and there's deliberately no hardlocking civs out of your borders because it's supposed to cause a diplomatic incident: diplo is the core of GalCiv4: Supernova
You can send unwanted population to starbases.
starbases no longer need/use pops@@jyutzler
Tech trading is so good! I hope it comes back in Civ7!
Everytime Potato says "O-ooooh" i always go back to Dungeon Keeper 2 and the Mistress... I hate my memory right now, so much :D
Yaaaaay! Potato playing galactic civs!!!
I hope to see more playthrough of Galciv 4 :)
Something I hated about Gal Civ 3 was that it felt like you never got much time in eras. I would have massive periods where war would break out In like the endgame and never before. Yet if you turned down certain settings I remember even ship building took longer. I could be wrong as it’s been many years since I played but it’s why I stopped playing
That's something I never liked about Age of Wonders as well. Definitely prefer that long marathon game, each Era is like 100 turns each and you can have a war entirely contained within one. Can't stand it when I can research 10 things by the time my probe goes to the other end of the map I thought they had hyperdrives
OH, there's next episode? I can't wait
Your opening statement is basically every Paradox game ever 😅
Hey, Stardock was always strong at being bad at launch as well. 😅
I loved GalCiv II and would have the tech tree on the wall behind my monitor... Even got the founders edition of GalCiv III. Just couldn't get into it.
Didn't realise IV had come out yet. Only found out about it a few months ago when Stardock sent an email about it being in Early Access
I know exactly how you feel. It was the same for me.Galciv2 Fan and disapointed with Galcic3. I bought it at release played some time and then never touched it again for years. But to be fair i installed it some time ago again and it got a lot better and is now actually fun to play. As for Galciv4 Supernova... honestly if your not really sweating to get your hand on it i would maybe wait till it is out of early access. The devs are pretty busy to get the game ready but here are still some things that are missing and stuff changes all the time.
Now we need a game that combines civ 6 and this
Perhaps the most important thing about Civ 6 is how dominant map layouts are. GalCiv maps are basically identical and stale. There is no nuance and little strategy.
SPACE!!!!!
Didn't know they came out with 4. Cool
More of this game
Ahh finally!
I hope its more finished than the last 2 editions
Hey that's my empire!
Reminds me of Endless Space quite a bit, but there's differences.
I didn't know this came out last year.
Potato, have you ever played Endless Space 2?
Makes me think about the movie/boardgames series Dune and civ6 had a baby 😂
GalCiv4 seems pretty neat. It is definitely on my Wishlist!!
Always love a bit of stardock every few years. Fallen Enchantress was a hot mess but I loved it.
Yor Singularity? This whole time. Yor Forger was a Robot.
Its only been like 70 years since the 1950's. Now our world looks totaly different. We might be at this stage by 105-300 years. it's not that long, considering proxima centauri at a distance of 4.3 lys from the sun, the closest star in our galaxy...
Iconia huh? When do you develop Gateway tech?
This is quiet the interesting game
I never accepted the simplistic combat in GalCiv II. Wondering how it got improved.
It was the same in IIi as in II and I’ve heard, for now at least, it’s mostly unchanged in IV. They’ve said they are changing it tho
When I read the first part of the title I thought it said “Gaul Civ 4”
@PotatoMcWhisky just wanted to check you're on EPIC games as i have bought a couple of games after seeing your videos and reckon you should get credit where it is due.
I haven't watched the video yet. So I don't know if you talk much about any of the other space strategy games you've play. However, I wanted to ask if you ever had any plans or interest in playing Terra Invicta again? I know there as been some, and heavy emphasis on the some, changes to the game since the launch of early access.
I would love to see this! One of my favorite play throughs of his. Interesting game that had some definite flaws..
Yggdgrasshill 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Holy mother of Jesus. And you keep saying it xD LoooooooooooL Potato you blabbering baffoon, I love you mate 😂😂😂
Sigh. I've been trying SO hard to avoid Stardock as my experience with them has been frustrating. For a developer with as many titles as they have, they managed to end-of-cycle abandon games in a condition I would have been embarrassed to release, maybe not even into early access. Have changed in that regard?
I might have to pony up the scratch for GCIV now, Potato - I'll blame you if I don't like it and thank you if I do. (Maybe now they'll sponsor you!)
Thank you for the video.
At the time of release it was maybe v0.3.1 by self respecting indie dev standards. Now with the non-free supernova patch it is maybe v0.7.5 by self respecting indie dev standards.
Bro sounds like It’sjabo
you said a bunch of funny words and mystified me into purchasing this game
Stardock just uploaded a lore video
would you say this is better than stellaris? or is it completly diffrent?
Have you played Stellaris? Which one do you think is better if you have?
It doesn't even have a f'ing campaign. 3 had like 10 of them.. No purchase until story campaigns are implemented.
Did potato explain the objective of the game at the start of the video?
he did not.
Is this finally a worthy successor to MOO2?
I'm still playing MOO2 😅
It still has more work to do
usually my first question is "What does this do that Stellaris doesnt?"
Win conditions other than kill everyone
@@kittyspam2146 or surviving the crisis
@@nicmc4789 that isn't really winning though doesn't lead to a congratulations you won screen
I like this game but its kind of rubish at the moment until they fix the proximity setting. Its bugged at the moment.
The problem is the proximity slider dont adjust the number of AI civs.
Binary and distant should only have 1 AI civ to follow the rules but even on tiny its 5. So you need to manually reduce the numbers low enough for the proximity slider to work properly.
funny enough, terrans don't get teh same miniaturization techs. they barely get one tech.
auto combat with no player control or input is huge let down idk how that can restore your faith
I think you meant galaxy map. 😂
what's your opinion on this game vs Stellaris?
This title was the tipping point for putting this channel on ignore. buh bye
I am definitely going to play this but I keep flip flopping on whether i should stream it.
I am not seeing what makes this better than Endless space - in fact endless space seems to have a much more interesting story and lore and just as good tactics
can you please use "galactic map" or "galaxy map", since the universe would contain many galaxies and the game is on one?
Rest of the astronomy you refered to was good btw, so ty for being so educated already
Ha. That's funny, Galactic Civ 3 is why I stopped playing that kind of game for years.
I dont know why but you pronunciation of Yggdrasil is annoying me, lol.
When I first saw this comment, I thought it was weird because how bad could it really be, then I got to the point where he said it.
Lol
Where is it? I can't be bothered to watch the whole thing, considering I'm playing it a lot...
@@explorminate 12:11
I'm play a lot of GC3, and this is a copy paste with better graphics 😢. I have still hope in this game.
Thanks for the video 👏
I honestly find this game sorely lacking in a lot of ways, mostly user interface and experience-wise. It's not worth the price in my opinion ...
GalCiv is better than Stellaris. I will die on this hill.
WDYM restored? have heard of that litte niche game STELLARIS?
sounds like you are being fast-forwarded wtf
I can't stand any game that doesn't let you control combat. There's a reason why Master of Orion 2 is classic, and MO3 isn't.
I pre-ordered GalCiv4. It was crap. When they fixed it they called it standalone expansion and priced it as full price standalone game initially with no discounts for people who bought the half done GalCiv4. In a few month they actually offered a discount. Don't we all enjoy paying for essential patches? I hope no one ever pre-orders anything from them ever again.
This looks like Stellaris knockoff made by Disney
This series has been around before Paradox Interactive was even a thing.
You're going way too fast for a newbie to follow along
This is a GALAXIE not the universe, please learn the basics...
I just don’t feel the 2D space games, come on dude, at least try to make me immersed into the game by showing me a realistic map/galaxy…
