- Here's an F1 onboard lap at the old Le Mans layout that Circuit de la Sarthe used in 1967. This lap is driven in Assetto Corsa with Pierre Gasly in his F1 2020 Alpha Tauri AT01.
With Le Mans happening this weekend, I got interested in the history of it wondered how it would be like for a modern Formula 1 car to drive the old layout. This layout is 13.461 km long, and has a massive straight.

The straight is longer than most of f1 circuits
And probably longer than any circuit at that time

Something so familiar and yet so foreign about the track in 67. Absolutely love learning about the history and evolution of Le Mans. Without a doubt, the most interesting circuit history to learn about.

This is the one I remember when the thunder cars ruled.
It's surreal to see an F1 driving at more than 320 km / h alongside houses and trees. That's why it is one of the most iconic races in the world. A super fast race track! 5 km straight for me is sensational! Imagine a DRS here lol! Great lap!
In 1989 (the last year with the whole Hunaudieres straight) almost all the top cars reached 380 kph,with the record of 405.
In the previous twenty years cars used to go faster than 340 kph.

Mitsos1311 Ah. I understand. See this is the track I’ve been telling you about because F1 once ran on that course in 1957 due to the cancellation of 2 Grand Prix races that year.
The track will feel more like an time attack than an hot lap

They only put a few chicanes here and there, they added the Porsche Curves, and the pit wall as well, of course. The rest seems to be pretty similar to what it was back then

@@Mitsos1311 it could be on the right side on the first five seconds of the video, or while watching, car from an outside perspective. At the end of the day it's your video, do what you think is better.
And for the older videos it could be the description, but i wouldn't blame you don't do it bc if I'm honest those are a lot of videos.

Hi mitsos! If you want, you can make a lap on the "Callejero de Buenos Aires",It is a circuit that was used for the only time for the Super TC2000 in 2012, if I'm not wrong, it is a circuit in the heart of the capital of Argentina.

My lovely and favourite layout of the LeMans circuit.
The old layout stills better than the new layout.cuz few corners . and a great long straight.but only lasts till 2004 when they decided to make it to the new layout (which is in long straight.they make it:
Half Straight
Corner and so on,).

Just listening to the droning hum of an F1 engine bouncing off of the rev limiter for minutes at a time...
That's nearly 2 laps of Spa Francorchamps. Nearly 4 laps of Soft tires/ 8-10 laps of Mediums and around 14-15 laps of Hards. Around 23 laps of total racing. Due to lack of corners usually stressing for the tyres, tyres will probably last longer than expected but longer straights with full throttle will decrease the life out of the engine
Please bring the old Layout back.

About the same speed as the 1966 winner down the Mulsanne straight although the Ford GT40 Mk.II. could reach 225 mph(362 kph)but the Ford GT Mk. IV could comfortably do 230-235 mph(370-378 kph) and the Porsche 917 could reach 250 mph(402 kph). Just to put things into perspective here 53 years later.
Amazing when you consider the 200 mph(322 kph)barrier was first achieved in 1964.
This is probably the greatest racing circuit in history. It's too bad Le Mans is horrible now.

they need to fix the top end speed glitch in this game, a f1 car especially with the downforce they would run would be at least 380 km/h on the mulsanne straight.
THE OLD TRACK IS VERY GOOD FOR ENDURANCE WITH LESS CORNERS. EVEN THE NEW LAYOUT IS GOOD FOR F1 WITH 5-6 DRS ZONRS FOR OVERTAKESS

The ACO, the organizers of the Le Mans 24 Hours and the owners of the Le Mans track said that the French GP will never be held on the 24H track. However the French GP was once held on the short track in 1967.
If F1 goes back to racing one day at Le Mans, it will be on the Bugatti track. But it is very difficult for that to happen because F1 is definitely not a priority for Le Mans owners.

Just the track itself is amazingly familiar as if if this is almost exactly like the one in Ford vs Ferrari starring Matt Damon. That’s what I think. Let me know if you think it is or not because I don’t have a clue. But needless to say is that Le Mans was the fastest circuit in the world with it’s blistering high speeds on the straightaways back in the day.
This is the same track used in that movie, it was the 1965, 1966 and 1967 layout
Mitsos1311 Ah. I was right. Just felt like that I needed to be sure. But thank you for the info. And like I said. Le Mans is always known at that time for it’s length but also endurance and pure 200 miles per hour straightaways both on the front and back stretches of the race track back in the 1960s. Also my Dad was born in the 60s. So my estimated guess is that he was probably 4 maybe 5, 6 years old when this layout of Le Mans was ran for the 24 hour endurance race.
