I really like your videos you cover alot of stuff I enjoy doing and I guess I'm strange too I do the same thing like the numbers all lining up on the freez plugs I just don't like doing sloppy work. Your friend from Louisiana Rick 427

Cam bearing installs can make you scratch your head on all the install theories. I do it.But if I can I'll let my machine shop expert do it.

I line up the part numbers too. Some folks think I'm nuts for it. But I like it. I've gotten caught on the number 1 cam bearing also. I guess every now and then you have to pay for the short cut. I should probably set number 1 then mount the block on the stand.

They're not freeze plug, they're core plugs from the casting process. If water in the block freezes, the block will crack.

Core plug, frost plug, expansion plug, freeze plug, all names for the same thing.
Access to remove casting sand and crack prevention.
I have replaced them after they have been forced out by ice without block damage. Boats and race cars mostly.

It's just bad luck once in a while . I changed many a Buick V6 front cam bearings with no special tools at all . I installed LS cam bearings today with the Jegs cam bearing installer and free handed the #1 . I have not installed a cam yet so wish me luck .

What about clearances how did you do it?

I been wanting to ask you a question and I'm sure the price depends on where you I've I have 2 400 blocks the 2 bolt is a 406 complete the other is a 4 bolt that is 0.60 over its got h beam rods and looks like about 14 to 1 forged pistons no cranki don't know if it was a 413 or a 434 however I'm thinking about turning the 406 into a 421 any Idea what a machine shop charges to Clearance a block for a 421 build? Also I was wanting to know I'm sure you built alot more engines then me my 406 I put a straight edge on the deck of the block and slid a feeler gauge between the straight edge and the top of the piston and the piston is between 0.60 and 0.70 down in the hole does tha sound right to you on a block that was not decked any help would be appreciated thank you in advance. In a previous video I mentioned that when I had the block bored the guy offered to cut Stroker crank clearance, so he did.
