The great thing about this UE5 port is that not only it runs great because it uses only original low poly/low res assets, but it also shows you how the game cheated when showing you the city center from Beacon Hill and Jackson Heights. In this port you'll see nothing from Jackson Heights and you'll see buildings popping in and out when going to and from Beacon Hill. That's because the original game used different assets to show you the city center from both those locations. From panoramic points in jackos heights the city center is a very low poly model with some flat textures for coal harbor, from beacon hill you get higher poly count buildings and, when in City center, you get different buildings loaded in. That's why you always need to go through a tunnel when going from city center to beacon hill: it hides the models switching. That was some clever desing to have this game run on a PS2 and it got unmasked.
I mean, using tunnels as loading zones and using low LOD for distant terrain are pretty basic features you can find in any 3D game since Star Fox on the SNES
I have A LOT of thoughts on this First of all, the game looks great, while also staying unbelieveably faithful to the original. Vehicle handling is also pretty much spot-on. Optimization is also very solid, I am pulling 90+ fps maxed out (300+ with FXAA, the more advanced AA methods are taxing but look wayy better) on an RX 6600 XT / R5 5600 rig. The demo is honestly more impressive than I thought. I did NOT expect full customization for every car in the game to be available in the initial release. I am a bit worried about them distributing all the original assets (including music and licensed cars). But I guess NFSU2 is abandonware at this point and EA doesn't care about it so maybe it's fine (??) What I'm really excited for is that this can be a really solid base for modding in the future. We could have more cars, better models/textures, maybe even additional race/event types. All without the limitations of the ancient NFSU2 engine.
Bad news that they’ve swapped out the engine noises. The original sound designer responsible for Underground 2 was the sound designer for the original Fast & The Furious. The engine sounds on the original game were phenomenal
I just hope the AI isn't the same as the original. Remove rubberbanding and have their perfomances be linked to their car and the car allowed upgrades be linked to each event.
Feels very similar to the vanilla game in my opinion. I think with a few minor adjustments they can really get it down. One issue some have brought up is that the camera is a bit different than the OG game which in turn makes it feel slightly different.
If i can add, there are some jitters on the game, where the car gets literally laggy while steering, seems like it's teleporting in its axis, its weird to explain. But it happens if you have poor fps
The only reason I don't think we will get an official remaster is because of the licensing with stuff like of course the cars, but also stuff like Best Buy, and Boost Mobile for example.
I'm starting to believe, that the fact that those games were even created is pure coincidence and the showcase of iron skill that blackbox had as a young studio. Skill which has been tamed with corpirate greed of the "management".
Man I hope they keep it original if they plan on updating it, I get why people change the skyboxes but something about UG2s hits different for me, another thing I want the option to change is car switching animations.. other than that I don’t really mind what they do with the game as long as it fits the vibe and aesthetic of it (Which means no Supercars please!)

sooo, how does the driving feel like? is it good?
it's 90% like the game, very good
Feels very similar to the vanilla game in my opinion.
Can’t wait for them to work out the AI drivers so there are races to do. It will be sick.
Would love to see this done to ProStreet
The only reason I don't think we will get an official remaster is because of the licensing with stuff like of course the cars, but also stuff like Best Buy, and Boost Mobile for example.
Vice City Nextgen and then this 2U5U? The future seems so good
When is the full release?
Not soon
The devs stated that full release will most likely be at the end of 2025.
@@PapaRPG Provided EA isn't taking the whole thing down until then. They should have kept quiet until the project has been completed.
@@no1DdC tbh people have been talking about it for a year especially some big racing game UA-camrs
Only thing I think could be better is the rain effect. 9.5/10 overall
I swear to God, the UE5 version is how I remember it as original 😂
That is insanely awesome!
they should keep the car switch animation. Not everything needs to be so "snappy" to remove all the cool features
I'm disappointed that today arcade racing game don't have driving physic as good as UG2
But I want point out you didn't use max settings in vanilla game, it's usually darker when you max it out
The game always looked like that in my head
if they dont include the hello kitty tempometer i will do my own nfs in ue
THANK YOU ! it's a lot of work we gon smoke this !!!!!
One of my fav vids so far
Idek which one is my favorite, U2 or Carbon
I'm starting to believe, that the fact that those games were even created is pure coincidence and the showcase of iron skill that blackbox had as a young studio. Skill which has been tamed with corpirate greed of the "management".

Man I hope they keep it original if they plan on updating it, I get why people change the skyboxes but something about UG2s hits different for me, another thing I want the option to change is car switching animations.. other than that I don’t really mind what they do with the game as long as it fits the vibe and aesthetic of it (Which means no Supercars please!)
