I bought a brand new 2017 this Jan 2019, it was in left over inventory at a local dealer. I got a great deal on it. I will be 60 this September, and this is the nicest bike I have owned and this is my 9th bike.

I own a 2015 and my sentiments exactly... comfort. Mainly because the bars are up high where they should be, which is what initially caught my interest before I knew much about the bike. I fell in love with this ninja in 2013 and made my decision it would be my next machine when I eventually had the means...

I have the 2018N1K, it is a lovely bike, but having lived with it a while now, there are some fault/issues with the model. Digital dash can be obscured in some light conditions - really big issue actually. Those mirrors have huge blind spots and are wide which impacts filtering - bar end mirrors help. There's a nasty vibe that comes through the pegs above 7000rpm - nothing you can do about that. The fuelling at neutral cruising throttle and zero throttle sucks - riders in the N1K forum routinely flash the ECU's (yet to do this) to free up the throttle control (this issue arises due to meeting euro 4 emission requirements). The muffler makes chain maintenance a chore, a helluva lot harder than my 9R. I've been told by other riders that the indicators can be harder to see in bright conditions.
All that said, I've been a life long Kwacka fan. The bike is a beast that tours like a demon and can rip up the road if you desire and definitely has a respectable seating position for we older riders that are done with pure sports bikes :) And apart from the vibe issue, the engine pulls hard, spins freely and has a gorgeous turbine whine. :)

Driving the same bike, i agree with the dash sometimes hard to read. But i actually enjoy the little vibrations at around 7000 rpm and don't think its a bad thing.

The speedo backing colour and digits have been changed for better visibility on the 2019 model. Unfortunately mine's a 2018 so I'll have to put up with it. I find good polarising sunglasses help a lot, the drop down helmet visor only makes reading the speed worse. As for fueling issues, mine was super smooth until I fitted aftermarket silencers which caused on/off low speed jerkiness. I've since replaced the originals and it's back to being smooth again. No doubt the different exhaust back pressure upsets the ECU or something. Can't say I've felt any vibes at any revs although I've heard owners of pre 2017 models have.

@@85waspnest i have the 2019 model and iam thinking of chaning the exhuasts with aftermarket, when you saw jerkiness in low speed, do you mean with aftermarket exhuast the bike is more aggressive, thus the jerkiness in low speeds?

I bought a 2019 Ninja 1000 this summer and it’s incredible. The fact that it’s also a touring bike means that it’s a bit more comfortable than other bikes in its class. You sit a little bit higher and that makes all the difference. You can still get down low and lay on the tank if need be. With it being a touring bike, I wish it had heated grips and cruise control. Other than that, zero complaints!

I’ve owned my 13’ Ninja 1000 for close to three years now and I’ll say though being only my second bike I love it to pieces. Bike has no problem absolutely rocketing off like a spaceship but also sports a comfortable position and stylish looks. So far I’ve just changed it’s levers to shortys and put on some M4’s. I’m 21 and I think my next bike will more than likely just be a newer model Ninja 1000. I don’t need to surpass 156 mph. (Not sure on max KPH)

The 2011-2013 ninja 1000 had peak horsepower after that it lost 5 peak horsepower and mostly has mid range. Also it revs higher than 10,000rpm around 12,500 with ivans ecu tune that can be increased. The only thing I want to mention is that the issue with the 2017 is that you cannot change the sprockets from stock as it trips the engine light causing traction control to not work for some weird reason.

In the video the blue looks lovely, but when I saw it at the dealers I thought it looked really dull. The silver they do is gorgeous, but it is a matt finish, and will not last so well. I ordered a green one in the end. Rather ubiquitous, but it is a fantastic paint job.

Good review m8. I'm riding the 2017 N1K and absolutely love it, in fact it replaced my 2014 N1K which was a great bike as well. A point you may have missed... this bike has cornering ABS (6 axis IMU = lean it over and hit those breaks... solid as a rock under you), also all the power of this bike is low to mid range in the revs - quick is right!
I did replace the ugly exhaust cans with Vance & Hines tips, let's you and your neighbors enjoy the Ninja's song but also reduced the weight by 10 kilos. I did a rear fender removal (Yoshimura tail tidy), installed all led lights, replaced the seat with one a bit more friendly to my 54 yr old backside. I have to agree, with Cruise Control and a quick shifter it would be perfect!

MT-09 is wheelie happy due to rear sock being set for shallow swingarm angle (acceleration squats the back). Professional chassis/suspension setup would require the swingarm angle to be set somewhere between "pro-squat" and "anti-squat" angles for optimal behavior.

dude you need to trust the gyroscopic forces from the wheels more. You are leaning your body the opposite way of the bike in turns...
you need to put you chin and center of chest in line with the hand that is the direction you are turning.
E.g. if you are turning sharp left at high speed you would want only your right butt cheek on the seat and your bodies center line should be in line with the left side of the bike and your chin should be up by your left hand.

    • @cptkirkpyro5656
      @cptkirkpyro5656 5 років тому +1

this will lower the CG of the bike and decrease your turn radius.

Pipes are just boat anchors that get in the way of lift spools.

Agreed. CC is a must (they put the stuff on S1000RR for cryinoutloud).
Exhaust is the most hideous mess ever created in motorcycledom. Also drops 21 pounds aftermarket.
Since 2011 original release, the bike lost HP and torque, and gained weight.
When compared to the 1290 Super Duke GT, the new R1250RS coming, and a few 17" wheeled sport ADV bikes, this thing is languishing in spite the recent updates.
1043cc sportbike engine, and making less than 125 hp at the wheel (119 hp 72 tq SAE corrected according to one UA-camr). Acceptable for some folks, but very under par when weighed against the limited competition.
