  • In this video, I show how to put together a great phone mount for the Ninja 1000 / 1000SX / Z1000SX. The phone mount uses the Quad Lock Weatherproof Wireless Charger and Vibration Dampener. This setup will also work for many other motorcycles.

    It’s kind of crazy how much money it all adds up to when you buy everything, but I can see why. No regrets. Thank you for the video it was so helpful!

    Thank you! I read a bunch of reviews on the net on how people successfully combine RAM mount, quadlock and that 12mm stem mount, but no idea how they are all supposed to fit together. This video answers everything!

    Johnathan, I must say you have the most detailed easy to follow video's regarding the ninja 1000 I've seen anywhere on youtube. When I started watching I had just purchased a '19 model. But due to unforeseen circumstances I now have a '20. I tell ya cruise control is a god send. Anyway because of your in-depth video's I have ordered a set of paniers from kawi that should be arriving tomorrow and will be installing those myself. Thanks again!

    Your instructional videos are outstanding. One update: I ordered the same 12 mm hexagon steering stem mount as you did, from Amazon yesterday (BuyBits 12mm Motorcycle Stem Mount Base); apparently it ships from the UK. It cost $30.83 not including shipping and will take 19 to 33 days to arrive. They charged me $13 for shipping! Then, when Amazon sent me a confirmation it had been shipped, it included a link to an alternate piece, that's virtually identical, also available on Amazon, called the Mounts Lab MotoMount Ninja- Kawasaki Ninja Motorcycle for 12mm Hexagon Hole Mount/Fork stem Base Mount with 1inch(25mm) Ball. It's a bit cheaper ($28.99), and available to deliver to me in three or four days! My guess is it wasn't available when you made this video. But for Stateside Kawasaki owners, this latter option seems to be a better choice.

      Yes, the link took me to a spanish only site, with a product that looks slightly different but was sold out anyway. Can't find this. Another option is a device by Telferizer out of UK but very pricey.

    Great video as always. I moved from the X Grip to the Quad Lock some months ago. It was such a great move and more secure than my prior mount. I went with the USB charger because I've had inconsistent wireless charging, but like the cleaner look of it. I may have to try it out.

    Nice install! I used your previous video to install the Ram-Mount but then replaced the 'claw' with the QuadLock ball adapter since I was already using the Quad Lock system on my bicycle. Will have to think about the charger & dampener!

    I've been dithering on the decision to order these exact same parts as I've had other mounts and power in the past. The power connectors have failed me in the past while on trips which is annoying. Also having to unplug cables, or take phone out of it's case to take pictures etc is a pain. I've now ordered the same mount and wireless charger.
    You videos are great and I've inadvertantly installed almost all the same parts on my '18 Ninja 1000SX.

    This assembly seems to be over-engineered for my taste. Parts from three different brands combined together just to hold a phone, which has to be put in a dedicated case. And you still have to use a USB cable to power it up.

    Switched and constant power sources. That's what a power hub is for. I have a power hub from twistedthrottle.com. I'm running six accessories. TomTom 550 GPS, Oxford heated grips, Radar detector and the pigtail for Tourmaster heated vest and pants are all on switched power from the power hub. The Powerlet 12v plug socket and SAE plug for my battery tender are both on constant power, so that they can used without the engine running on my 2014 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 ABS. I've had this technology on the bike for about six years with no issues. Oh and Quadlock is the only way to go. Don't waste your time and money on RAM X-mount.

    • @JonLong

      I don't have any concern about the strength, even at triple digit speeds. On my bike, however, the phone mount is behind the windscreen, so it's well isolated from the pressure of the wind.

    Great video, saved me a lot of headwork. Thanks! One quick question - have you tried to remove it to access the stem nut, as I've seen some difficulties other had with removing different solutions - at the end of the day, you need to get access to it eventually, was wondering if it's not a one time mount after it initially expands.

    • @JonLong
      @JonLong  2 роки тому +1

      No, not at all. When you loosen the bolt that expands the insert, it pulls right out.

      I can give you a good answer, because I recently sold the Ninja and ordered a new bike. I’m replacing it with a 2022 BMW R1250 GS. I was looking for something that was fun to ride, like the Ninja, but that was better suited to touring and had some more versatility for the occasional dirt or gravel road.

    Hey, I’ve got a 1000SX and I’m trying to replace the headlights with LED units (h7’s) however the headlight unit seems to be quite different compared to the older models. Do you have any tips??

    • @JonLong
      @JonLong  3 роки тому +1

      Retrofitting LED bulbs into a halogen housing can be tough. The reflectors are designed for a halogen bulb, and replacement led bulbs may not work well, even if they’re very bright. I replaced halogen bulbs with LEDs on my last bike, and I had to buy multiple bulbs to test out and see which worked best. Shine your headlight on a wall or garage door and make sure you are getting the same light cutoff as you do with your stock bulbs, so that you aren’t blinding oncoming drivers.

    • @Bikerrep
      @Bikerrep 3 роки тому

      @@JonLong that’s a good one! I have 2 different sets of LED’s now to try out. However the headlight housing is quite different, there seem to be no traditional dustcaps anymore. I think I have to remove the entire headlight unit in order to replace the bulbs

    Hey, I was looking at getting a N1k, but when i called my insurance company, they quoted me an astronomical rate. Which insurance company do you use? Do they understand that this is not a zx10r?

    • @JonLong
      @JonLong  3 роки тому +1

      It's a common issue with this bike. Insurance rates vary widely and are based on many factors, so a company that has the best rates for me might have the worst rates for you. My advice is to get quotes with a bunch of companies until you find something you like. Check with riders in your area to see what insurance companies they have had the best luck with. I've gotten quotes from $600/yr to $3500/yr for full coverage in the US.
