Gary - would you agree that the converter issues on these is not just the under-engineered converter itself, but also the TCC lockup strategy having lockup from 2nd all the way up? Way too much stress on the converter. You're probably aware of a colleague of yours who goes into the software and disables lockup on, I think, 2nd and 3rd. He does some other things too.

So i never had a problem with my trucks transmission since i bought it but yesterday i was hauling a trailer and my rpm went up and down on there own and then the rpms stayed at 5000 with me going no were.i pulled over and checked the fluid it looked dark and a tad bit low but no burnt smell..i threw a quart in it and drove it for 5 mins and then a check engine light turned on reading p0700..so i went to the auto parts store and took the old oil out and filter and put both new.i drove the truck for a few mins but its still doing the same thing...and now its also has a new code p0796 sayn the pcs solenoid is stuck off and after driving the truck the transmission oil got hot and smells burnt now it stayed T 5000 rpm and i was only going 45 50 miles per hour...so i took everything apart again..i did have very small metallic shavings on the magnet but no chunks..do you think its the TEHCM.. Or do you think i should replace the transmission
Great stuff. I just purchased a complete drivetrain from an escalade L92 6.2 and 6l80e for a project. I need to change the output from 4wd to 2wd which as far as I can tell requires a full disassembly. It has 138,000 miles and drove excellent before it came out. I've watched every 6l80/6l90 video I can find on youtube. It will be my first auto trans rebuild but I'm pretty meticulous. I'm thinking about the Sonnax zip kit, billet aluminum 1-4 piston, HD 4-5-6 apply Piston kit, line pressure kit, and hd pump slide spring. Any thoughts or input?
Trans does have to come apart to change out the output shaft, pump is part of the bellhousing, make sure it's nice and smooth, i always used the o-ring end plug kit by sonnax. Makesure the pressure switches are in good shape
Gary, appreciate the the video, very helpful. I rebuilt my 6L80 in November, it all worked great and still does except for one thing. After it gets hot and you stop at a stop sign, when you let off the break it won’t roll, it seems as though it’s in neutral. if you wait it will go back in gear, if you give it a little gas it will jump in gear. It doesn’t do it all the time. I assumed it was the torque converter due to the symptoms, I changed it this week but it still does it. What do you think it is? It will do it in revers sometimes also.
I have a quick question if you don’t mind? What is the ideal operating temperature of these 6l80 trans? My truck has a “thermostat” that wants to keep the fluid above *180/*190. Why is that? Should I bypass it with the sure cool kit from global transmissions? I always thought cooler was better? Please advise. Thank you for your time.
I rebuilt the pressure switches on my tehcm because the plastic pieces were all broken. It shifts better but is still shifting harder than usual on the first shift. Am I supposed to do any reprogramming after the pressure switch rebuild?
Nathan Brown Do you have access to a Tech II scanner or Solus? You can initiate a relearn after getting the trans up to 150 (or was it 165 degrees F?). There is a UA-cam video on this somewhere.
Gary..For the 1234 3-5 Reverse housing...it shows an o-ring for the reverse piston and 1 for the balance piston...but..I do not see where the first one(reverse piston) goes..can you share insight for me?... I dont even remember it coming out of my old one..

Question man, ive got my valve body tore down and im trying to replace the valves in the valve body. I am having trouble getting the tcc valve out. Do you have any advice to get this thing out?
@@GaryFerraro had code p0741 ordered the sonnax zip kit. Comes with new tcc valve. The old one moved about 1/4 inch give or take and that was it. I'm afraid I messed up the valve body trying to get it out. Thought maybe it had turned in the slot. Tried to get it to turn and just ate into the valve.. There was some metal dust in the pan. Little bit of actual flakes that you could tell were metal by feel. Replacing the torque converter, flex plate, rebuilding valve body and replacing filter. I had a line blow off the radiator a few weeks back lost 3/4s of the fluid.
@@GaryFerraro yes I got the clutch valves out and the one next to the tcc valve. The just slid right out pretty much. I used a 90° a 45° and even tried a flat head to no avail on the tcc valve. Only one that gave me any problems.
Please tell me you can help me. I've lost one of the 4 10mm head bolts that bolts the rim to the valve body. Mine seems to be a M6 head but the shaft is .8 or M5. Dealer doesn't even ha e a part number for that. Where can I get it?

A bit late but a question for you. I have a 09 Pontiac G8 w the 6l80. Trans shifts hard from Park, has a 2 second delay to Drive, and has a kick to 2nd gear, then some slipping. Drives fine on the highway, trouble only when city driving. Did 1st trans change at 90k miles, fluid was clean no apparent shavings. Did 2 more fluid changes and am at 115k miles. No check engine light. I have had this problem since the first fluid change. What could be my issue? Thanks
Sure this is full? check the fluid when car is hot, Look at both sides of the stick, if one side reads lower that is the true reading, always go with the lower side

When around 40ish mph it feels like running over a rumble strip on side of a freeway, once pass 40 mph it go away. if I have OD off it don't seem to do it.

I’m having an issue with my 2008 bmw 335i E92 from what I’ve researched online my car has the 6hp26 the car has a hard shift going from 2 to 3 but now I have another problem the transmission is slipping my rpm will rise but will not accelerate and will throw a “transmission fault” code and it is struggling to move as if the clutch was out like in a manual (I have an automatic I’m just comparing) I have a new pan and filter new sealing sleeve plug along with the rectangular plastic plug and the 4 sealing sleeves that are under the valve body as well but could it be the valve body solenoids? Not everything else? regardless I’m still going to be doing all this but would new solenoids most likely be my issue so I can go ahead and get new ones as well? or could the symptoms be of something completely different? Also have not scanned for codes If you need more details I could possibly provide more thanks you!!!
Gary Ferraro I have a “Cobb access port” for tunning purposes and does read codes but I don’t believe that it reads transmission codes, but when ever it would throw the transmission fault code on my display was when it would slip and reach or be close to redline and would only keep me in one gear and I would use my access port to clear the code and the transmission would run normally again with the hard shift and occasionally slip but it has gotten worst and now will slipping in 1st with little to no move meant unless I’m super gentle on the gas so it grabs And what is a good tool to check for trans codes?

ok, sure fluid is full? is this producing any codes?
You may want to overfill it a little to make sure it's not a fluid problem

180-190 is not bad, anything above 230 to me is getting to hot

Hp Tuners will also initiate the relearn. 165F is the minimum temp to start it.

I see that u changed the pressure regulator valve & M plugs but you did not mention what the causes are when they are bad
When the regulator valve is worn, trans will slip even on pull away, all gears will be bad. The end plugs may get flared or erratic shifting
Is there an upgrade to the check balls? I’ve seen several different styles/colours and I know some transmissions used meta over nylon. Thoughts?

Why taking valves out, did trans have metal, valves stuck, have to check a diagram of the TCC valve, have one at the shop

Gary Ferraro I have a “Cobb access port” for tunning purposes and does read codes but I don’t believe that it reads transmission codes, but when ever it would throw the transmission fault code on my display was when it would slip and reach or be close to redline and would only keep me in one gear and I would use my access port to clear the code and the transmission would run normally again with the hard shift and occasionally slip but it has gotten worst and now will slipping in 1st with little to no move meant unless I’m super gentle on the gas so it grabs
And what is a good tool to check for trans codes?
Gary Ferraro and when cold it would occasionally not shift as hard as when hot but for the most part still drive similarly
Gary Ferraro and hard shift are not as present in “D” mode as they are in auto manual, but still slip when accelerating
No DTC , fluid is perfect and cherry red
