He knew how to direct a film, but he didn't know a thing about art

Finally someone to articulate the fact that I'm not "interrupting" I'm just talking like a real human being. I hear what you're saying but I can't wait. I've got to start talking now.

Bringing Up Baby ties with this one one my always love to watch list of Grant movies by Hawks. This type of dialogue scripting is why the original Star Wars trilogy was genius over the Prequels. The actors understood this type of overlapping almost slapstick dialogue even when they disliked the wording. Carrie Fisher and Ford said their lines seamlessly and Mark knew to do the innocent clueless interlaced with them. With the Prequels only McGregor had the chops but there was no Kasdan or other writers/director/producers to sharpen the script from Lucas' aged dulled writing. He used to have the knack, he made the Indiana Jones movies.

I always thought the dialogue was reminiscent of the theater because it has such precise rapid timing like in a Vaudeville skit.

That's Peter Bogdanavich interviewing Hawks, right? I'm looking forward to upgrading this from my muddy PD copy.

My (1980s) high school Drama class teacher said she could always tell which kids were theatre people, because they were all talking at the same time..
