  • Some guys over at the www.ridgelineow... forums were discussing the difference in engine noise when using regular dino oil and synthetic oil. This video is designed to compare engine noise with both oils.
NOTE: The dino oil is at the end of it's life span and was changed over to synthetic. This comparison is not true "apples to apple" in that the synthetic is brand new while the dino is on its way out.

@sean808808 - My test here is agreeably flawed in that I didn't contrast new dyno vs. new mobil 1. But, I do think that the synthetic runs better. I haven't checked out penzoil. I will have to give it a look.

It stands to reason that a CERMA treated engine should run smoothly regardless of oil type.

@GSRGOPEDRIDER247 - I'm not sure. I think they have varying grades of stuff. I saw a pamphlet that they developed a "0w0" oil for their magical engines, but I think all I've gotten from them is 5w20 dyno oil in the past.

Today i changed my oil as usual like i do every 6 months and oil again and oil filter every year. My engine would sound rough on cold start even at only 10 degrees. This time i used drivetec 5w30 instead of 10w 40 oil and now my 177k miles suzuki 1.6 petrol sounds great and feels great too when driving. Noticed a much smoother engine and alot quiter too. I have had to stop using german parts on it though as there absolute $#!t including bosch oil filters. I went from bosch to denso spark plugs and now my engine runs like new.

synthetic sounds like it has a smooth consistent sound while the dino I hear random chatter.. i may have to go upstairs and grab my better ear buds to really hear the difference

synthetic is better. at least i can hear in this video conventional oil is making too much friction that's why the valves sounds so loud. while synthetic viscosity is smooth making the engine run fine.

runs little slow but could good if loose engine synthetic could run fast through the engine more noise
