I hear talcum powder rolled in between baking paper for green stuff (im gonna try it through my sculpey roller with the baking paper than a normal roller). Nightshift (recommend channel for dirty, rust effects on tanks etc) does it for Tarpaulins for his tanks. Vaseline is good also for smoothing of green stuff. I get the strip of greenstuff that is separate from each other so it it easier to cut than the tubes and place in a a tupperware. Tubes you use more yellow than blue, and blue is awful when old, get rid of the container (wrap in baking paper) and find a better storage, it sticks to the plastic container and goes hard, wasting alot. Milliput is good for bulk areas, carving sharp edges, but dont use to much water it goes brittle. Some sculptors do a mix of greenstuff and milliput or other brand eg Apoxie so it has strength and give of greenstuff and easier for carving of milliput and reduce the stickiness of green. Greenstuff is best used in small areas at a time and you must have patience. Sculpting is about layers, so for example do shape of head, let dry so you have a solid base and slowly do features one at a time, do not do all at same time (unless sculpting so small)
It's important to show the community the ups and downs of the hobby! If you get disillusioned that everything works out with good planning, you won't be prepared for the disappointment. Like you said earlier in the video, shit happens!

Tips! Various tips for getting along better with Millput or Green Stuff/GS (Kneadatite Blue/Yellow) in case they're of help to anyone... MILLIPUT Talc is your friend. Lots and lots of talc. (Don't worry that a lot of talc ends up becoming mixed into the blended putty as this does no harm. You can actually deliberately do this to make epoxies easier to work with initially.) Don't mix it and hope to use it immediately! Put it aside for at least five minutes after mixing, although honestly 10-15 mins is better for something as sticky as Milliput. The different colours ARE different enough that it's worth trying something other than the standard (many pros used to swear by Silver Grey and Superfine White), but honestly I think you'd be better off sculpting with something else purpose made to sculpt with. The top contenders are Magic Sculp and Apoxie Sculpt and most users find either or both a massive step up. GREEN STUFF #1 tip has always been to never buy this in the strips with the two colours touching if you can avoid it. If you have to buy it that way, or you have some already, cut the two colours apart immediately. You'll almost certainly have to discard some of the centre strip because of hard bits. If you like it and know you're going to use it a lot buy the big tube (3.52 ounces) with the two separate rolls. Best tip IMO for improving workability is to use more yellow than blue. This results in a softer mix that is less plasticy/waxy and easier to work with for many jobs. Don't worry, It will still set up just fine even at 3:1 (I prefer 2:1, and it's less wasteful in the long term). For lubricating tools, especially to help with forming flowing detail there are better things than just water, although it (or saliva) do work okay. A light oil (vegetable or mineral oil), Vaseline or moisturiser/chap stick tend to work better and the lubricating effect lasts much longer. If you use saliva resist the urge to lick your sculpting tools! To roll out into thin sheets for flags/purity seals/cloth/tarps use plenty of talc or cornstarch. MIX TOGETHER! A blend of Milliput and GS is a complete revelation and for many tasks sooo much better than either alone. But the in-between properties of the mixture are quite similar to Magic Sculp by itself....
@@Novgord98 Spikes are difficult. I think they're really impossible to do in one step, except with smaller/shorter ones. If you want to try to continue doing them in one go, you might try drilling a small hole at each location to provide a 'keel' for the rest of the spike, rather than hoping the cling of the putty to the surface will stand up throughout the whole shaping process - I bet everyone has experienced working on a lock of hair or spike and having it pop free when it is nearly done, which is suuuuper frustrating. The main method to rely on IMO is not to make them on the surface, but instead shape them separately. After they're cured you just glue them on... same as you have to if a spike pops free of the surface near the end of shaping 🙂 With anything like this, if they're fairly substantial, I would pin them in place rather than relying on a superglue bond only. Although you can often reinforce after glueing with a little extra putty at the base to feather them in or add texture etc. Hope it helps!
very interesting to hear the talc part, what does it do to milliput in your experience? @tungsten_carbide for me the biggest game changers with puttys like greenstuff and milliput were: - learning the curing times, freshly mixed is good for bulk work and sticking, 30 minutes after mixing is good for general use and more than 1 hour after mixing is BEST for details - baby oil > than anything else(mineral oil) - gs + milliput deff works very well - IMO aves apoxie sculpt > than any other putty - it's gonna sound odd, polymer clays, work time and curing whenever you want/need is a major advantage while their properties are very similar if not better than puttys, even for conversions you can make wire armatures for parts your missing -> make slots that fit perfectly with your part using putty -> finish sculpt with poly clay(bake cure and sculpt however u wish)
@@VorborBoban Talc will lessen the stickiness of anything you mix it with, which is IME sooo vital with Milliput which has the highest surface tack of that you can imagine 🙂I've certainly never heard of anything that's worse.... but to be fair, very high adhesion is useful sometimes and definitely an advantage for Milliput's original purpose as a pipe/boiler sealant. I switched away from Milliput before I got more experience with sculpting because of how challenging it was to handle (not to mention it being _notorious_ for going off in the pack, which by itself was a complete dealbreaker for me). But, from use with everything subsequent that I've tried - plumber's seal, A+B, GS, Sylmasta's original putty, Magic Sculp, Apoxie Sculpt - If you blend in enough talc you get a change in basic feel, the mix tends to get sort of silky (very noticeable almost immediately with GS). And even a fairly significant addition (equal volumes or higher) doesn't significantly alter final hardness as far as I can tell. Agree almost 100% with all your observations 👍
This is such an important video. Your videos tend to give a feeling of aspiration and inspiration. You two do so much work that most of the world can only dream of, and it almost seems superhuman with your final reveals. Not only does this video bring you back to being human and relatable (i.e. not the superhero artists that you two normally portray), but you also show the value of resiliency and determination. In this day and age, we expect instant gratification, and consequently do not tolerate failures as temporary setbacks but as signs for giving up. This is actually one of my favorite videos that you've done - for a couple of reasons. 1.) I love seeing Emil get to work on his own projects, 2.) it's IMMENSELY helpful for me, who has been struggling with a lot of my hobby projects lately, to see someone I look up to an respect going through all the ups and downs, and frankly... sorry Emil - seeing you getting fed up. It... really helped me. I hope your projects go smoothly obviously, but these videos are such a huge mental boost for someone who isn't anywhere near the same skill level.

When I hear zombie pirate my mind goes straight to drowned men. Having some seaweed strips hanging off of the big boy and drilling some pockmarks and corrosion damage into the metal elements would really sell the feeling that this bloated drowned monstrosity just walked out of the surf. Love that the weapon has an old anchor vibe to it!

Hi guys, I really appreciate the video about the real struggles of being creative. I’ve been watching your videos for quite awhile now and always enjoy them. After a couple years of watching your videos and other 40K content I’ve finally worked up the courage to get into the hobby myself. After work today I went to the local game shop in my town and talked with the staff for an hour about how to best start getting into Warhammer. I run my own business and don’t have a lot of free time and I’m nervous about not being able to make my minis look the way I want them to. This video gives me a lot of confidence to just buy some minis and paint and do the best I can and learn as I go. Keep up the great content and I’m excited to follow your tutorials about learning to paint…now to just pick which faction to start with. 😂

A Tip for you. when sculpting with green stuff you can make up small batches and place in the freezer to stop the curing process. Also I will occasionally put parts I sculpted already into the freezer as they then freeze hard enough so I can work on them more later or the next day This makes the frozen green stuff stiff enough to resist damage from accidentally touching it. Your freezer is your friend. I have been able to stop items sculpted out of greenstuff from curing for up to several days in the freezer. Silicone is your friend, just place the items in a small silicone cup, bowl or on a piece of silicone so it dinnae stick to anything else. as for the rolls of green stuff most people just cut away the very center... though I hate the waste that involves so I use those middle pieces when sculpting things for my bases... this allows me to salvage those little pieces lastly the green stuff you put in the freezer will slowly become pliable again as it thaws. When doing large sculpts I often used Apoxie Sculpt which comes in huge tubs of the two different parts so it does not pre-harden, though you need to wear gloves and clean your tools after to prevent it gunking up your sculpting tools, than only use green stuff for fine details at the very end.
I really love that you're willing to show when things don't go as planned. and great job continuing to work on it even when it's incredibly difficult. I get anxiety about painting all of the time and this looks so much more intense than that, so I'm just going to tell myself to keep on pushing and get through the project because at the end of the day it's about making cool stuff and enjoying the process. Great video, and I hope we get to see this army sooner than later!

If you are going to be sculpting from scratch I highly HIGHLY recommend using either magic sculpt or Aves. Much easier to work with than green stuff and hardens like a rock. I love both these products. I used to use Aves when I made custom action figures decades ago. Or you could even use Super Sculpey if you make large parts separately. Great work man. I love this channel
I recently switched to magic sculpt and totally agree, I'd been dabbling with just GS and the recommendations of GS&MP together and none of them "felt right" but oof that switch to magic sculpt was a level up it mixes soo much easier and isso much more fluid to work with.
For a model of this size, Super Sculpey would be my recommendation, but you have to be careful where you attach the plastic parts, make sure they are temp attached. Super Sculpey requires baking in the oven to harden it - which is exactly why I would recommend it. You can rework the sculpt over hours, days, even weeks if you want, then bake it when you're happy. This would give you the time to perfect the anatomy. Workflow is similar to what you did, make your armature with wire and tin foil (make sure everything you choose can go in the oven), then temp-tack the plastic bits. Sculpt with the Super Sculpey until those parts you are 100% satisfied. Remove the plastic bits, bake the mini, then re-glue and use more traditional mini putty to gap fil and integrate the plastic parts.
I love that you guys did not give up and showed the problem solving! Showing the pitfalls to people who want to try it makes it worth it. Love the video as always!

I’ve found that mixing green stuff and miliput in a 50/50 mix has given me my best results for a sculpting material. I’ve also found that working it with water (miliput especially) that I get very mixed results in consistency. It can be a little bit of a pain for the final clean up but working a Vaseline type substance into the 50/50 was an absolute game changer, and I’d recommend a try with it (on something small at first) to see if you like it. 👍
That is a rough go. I think the true highlight of this video is that despite everything that happened you still continued with the project and made progress. And it is nice to see Emil work on a project he wants to work on verse something he needs to do for content.
I tend to mix milliput with greenstuff and it works way better as a mix than any of them separately. For the shake of the issues, so sorry for you; happy to see you made a progress out of it though and looking forward to see these finished and then painted. Keep it up guys! 💪😁

last year i kitbashed a sanguinius for my buddy. through that project i may have thought about eating the pile of bits and take a plastic dump that would look more like an angel in the end (and multiple start from scratch) i have made a badass primarch, now everyone in our group wants their own primarch kitbash
Change the proportion of hardener and clay is the solution with Green Stuff. The blue content causes that rapid hardening to take place - so if you have something you need quick to fill a gap and be dry for painting add more blue, work it quickly, and press it into place. Can be sanded in 60 seconds. If you want malleable soft clay - significantly reduce the blue. Sometimes as low as 50% of the normal content. This can give you a good long while to work with it although if the mix is too low it can be a bit sticky and tacky for a good long while. Also, the curing is aided by temperature. Colder air keeps it fresher, warmer firms it up. So you can use a hair dryer or similar to speed up the process. I assume that's why people kept advising to use water? The only time I use water is to create smooth finishes by thinning the clay down into the equivalent of "slip" (or liquid green stuff).
This is actually really cool. I'm not normally into Fantasy/Age of Sigmar, but these kitbashes are really intruiging and I'd love to see all three complete and fully painted

If you put excess sprue into a jar of Accutane and let it dissolve it will become a very thin paste that rehardens into a flexible rubber material. It may not be the best to sculpt with because it comes out pretty thin at first, but it has applications and it can't be said your using non-GW material.

This reminds me of all the times I used blue-stuff for casting small components, and different types of milliput; fine, standard and terracotta. Terracotta somehow worked out better. It was a great idea but easier projects would be a Tyranid Prime with a snake body, or a second carapace for both a Swarm Lord and Hive Tyrant. Something like this would definitely need solid sculpting skills, but despite the difficulties you still rose to the challenge. You have the eye of the tiger! 😎

If you ever decide to tackle something like this again, try using Blue Stuff to copy the major structural parts and then the kneaditite & epoxy clay mixed equally and pushed into the molded blue stuff. Less sculpting and material, and you have the structure to build on. Also mixing the two materials together gives the best qualities of both. I would love to see the other two models as well.
Keep going! This is looking so great! Regarding the lost files, you probably already know this, but just in case: If the HDDs didn't explode or haven't been overwritten completely, there is usually something left. Some filesystems create hidden backups automatically. Files can often be recovered with software. And in more complicated cases there are companies that specialize in data recovery. A while back I even revived an old HDD 20 years after it went up in smoke by replacing the broken circuit board with one from another HDD I found on ebay. In many cases, things like this are not as hopeless as they might seem at first. Anyways, keep it up and good luck with the project.

Good video! It's so important for viewers to see how much struggle you went through for something like this👏👏👏👏 There are various tips to help get along better with both Kneadadite/Duro (GS) and Milliput that I hope _someone_ gave you (did anyone recommend more yellow than green? that's often a big help) but the main one I was expecting that you'd show since you were also struggling with Milliput is _a mixture of the two_ ...virtually everyone thinks is better than either putty alone if they try it! But honestly I think you found the better solution - using something else 😁😁😁 Literally within the first five minutes I was saying Magic Sculp to the screen, but I was still stoked when you showed the Apoxie Sculpt. Magic Sculpt was the complete gamechanger for me about 20 years ago, after struggling to do anything with the sticky mess that is Milliput, and anything more than small areas and details with GS. Magic Sculpt and Apoxie Sculpt are similar enough that many consider them interchangeable. I don't, although they are close enough, but regardless either one is VASTLY superior to any colour of Milliput for clay-like sculpting 😎

I absolutely feel your struggle with Greenstuff. Im also having a hard time finding it good to work with. I hoped the Mix of Greenstuff/Milliput would do so I ordered some Milliput. But your experience makes me doubt the decision to try that^^ Glad you kept your head up after all those drawbacks!
It's been my experience using that specific boxed roll of Green Stuff that in addition to the connection point of blue and yellow needing to be discarded the yellow segment of the putty develops a thin shell that needs to be removed before mixing the blue and yellow portions of the putty. Since I use either smaller segments at a time or larger chunks it's relatively simple to work with it. I'd say it adds maaaaaaybe an additional 30 seconds (or less given the size of the Green Stuff being used) to the process. But removing that thin shell on the yellow segment is a necessity to getting a workable mix.
Wow! Very surprised at all the difficulty you had with Green Stuff and Milliputt. I guess it makes me feel better that I also can't ever get them to work as well as I want them to, LOL! Also, it really gives credit to those artists/gamers who can absolutely kill it with those materials! I'm always AMAZED at those sculptors who sculpt an entire 28mm miniature with such astonishing details using only Green Stuff. And yes I'VE USED WARM WATER AS WELL!! :D
@@cbjewelz i am not the guy you asked, but i always find i end up with Vaseline in bad spots, then i am gluing greenstuff with super glue and trying to make it work.
Just mix them. 50% milliput grey and 50% green stuff. A big box of cheap gloves and the heat from your hands helps to mix them. I use it all the time. Once dry it can be sanded and drilled.
This is an awesome video. I don’t know if it would work, but one thought that came across my mind was maybe build sub-assemblies of the main giant kit (torso, arms, legs, etc.) and then make resin molds so you can have copies for the other two giants? Might save time/material compared to sculpting from scratch if you ever decide to do something similar in the future

#1 tip has always been to never buy this in the strips with the two colours touching if you can avoid it. If you have to buy it that way, or you have some already, cut the two colours apart immediately. You'll almost certainly have to discard some of the centre strip because of hard bits.
If you like it and know you're going to use it a lot buy the big tube (3.52 ounces) with the two separate rolls.
Best tip IMO for improving workability is to use more yellow than blue. This results in a softer mix that is less plasticy/waxy and easier to work with for many jobs. Don't worry, It will still set up just fine even at 3:1 (I prefer 2:1, and it's less wasteful in the long term).
For lubricating tools, especially to help with forming flowing detail there are better things than just water, although it (or saliva) do work okay. A light oil (vegetable or mineral oil), Vaseline or moisturiser/chap stick tend to work better and the lubricating effect lasts much longer. If you use saliva resist the urge to lick your sculpting tools!
To roll out into thin sheets for flags/purity seals/cloth/tarps use plenty of talc or cornstarch.
MIX TOGETHER!
A blend of Milliput and GS is a complete revelation and for many tasks sooo much better than either alone. But the in-between properties of the mixture are quite similar to Magic Sculp by itself....
Question: how do you attach them to resin whilst standing on their own? I am becoming mad trying to add some green stuff/milliput spikes
@@Novgord98 Spikes are difficult. I think they're really impossible to do in one step, except with smaller/shorter ones. If you want to try to continue doing them in one go, you might try drilling a small hole at each location to provide a 'keel' for the rest of the spike, rather than hoping the cling of the putty to the surface will stand up throughout the whole shaping process - I bet everyone has experienced working on a lock of hair or spike and having it pop free when it is nearly done, which is suuuuper frustrating.
The main method to rely on IMO is not to make them on the surface, but instead shape them separately. After they're cured you just glue them on... same as you have to if a spike pops free of the surface near the end of shaping 🙂
With anything like this, if they're fairly substantial, I would pin them in place rather than relying on a superglue bond only. Although you can often reinforce after glueing with a little extra putty at the base to feather them in or add texture etc.

for me the biggest game changers with puttys like greenstuff and milliput were:
- learning the curing times, freshly mixed is good for bulk work and sticking, 30 minutes after mixing is good for general use and more than 1 hour after mixing is BEST for details
- baby oil > than anything else(mineral oil)
- gs + milliput deff works very well
- IMO aves apoxie sculpt > than any other putty
- it's gonna sound odd, polymer clays, work time and curing whenever you want/need is a major advantage while their properties are very similar if not better than puttys, even for conversions you can make wire armatures for parts your missing -> make slots that fit perfectly with your part using putty -> finish sculpt with poly clay(bake cure and sculpt however u wish)
@@VorborBoban Talc will lessen the stickiness of anything you mix it with, which is IME sooo vital with Milliput which has the highest surface tack of that you can imagine 🙂I've certainly never heard of anything that's worse.... but to be fair, very high adhesion is useful sometimes and definitely an advantage for Milliput's original purpose as a pipe/boiler sealant.
I switched away from Milliput before I got more experience with sculpting because of how challenging it was to handle (not to mention it being _notorious_ for going off in the pack, which by itself was a complete dealbreaker for me). But, from use with everything subsequent that I've tried - plumber's seal, A+B, GS, Sylmasta's original putty, Magic Sculp, Apoxie Sculpt - If you blend in enough talc you get a change in basic feel, the mix tends to get sort of silky (very noticeable almost immediately with GS). And even a fairly significant addition (equal volumes or higher) doesn't significantly alter final hardness as far as I can tell.

This is such an important video. Your videos tend to give a feeling of aspiration and inspiration. You two do so much work that most of the world can only dream of, and it almost seems superhuman with your final reveals.

In this day and age, we expect instant gratification, and consequently do not tolerate failures as temporary setbacks but as signs for giving up. This video shows the value of passion and resiliency and how it's necessary to create amazing things.

This is actually one of my favorite videos that you've done - for a couple of reasons. 1.) I love seeing Emil get to work on his own projects, 2.) it's IMMENSELY helpful for me, who has been struggling with a lot of my hobby projects lately, to see someone I look up to an respect going through all the ups and downs, and frankly... sorry Emil - seeing you getting fed up. It... really helped me. I hope your projects go smoothly obviously, but these videos are such a huge mental boost for someone who isn't anywhere near the same skill level.

Having some seaweed strips hanging off of the big boy and drilling some pockmarks and corrosion damage into the metal elements would really sell the feeling that this bloated drowned monstrosity just walked out of the surf. Hi guys, I really appreciate the video about the real struggles of being creative. I’ve been watching your videos for quite awhile now and always enjoy them. After a couple years of watching your videos and other 40K content I’ve finally worked up the courage to get into the hobby myself. After work today I went to the local game shop in my town and talked with the staff for an hour about how to best start getting into Warhammer. I run my own business and don’t have a lot of free time and I’m nervous about not being able to make my minis look the way I want them to. This video gives me a lot of confidence to just buy some minis and paint and do the best I can and learn as I go. Keep up the great content and I’m excited to follow your tutorials about learning to paint…now to just pick which faction to start with. 😂

A Tip for you. when sculpting with green stuff you can make up small batches and place in the freezer to stop the curing process. Also I will occasionally put parts I sculpted already into the freezer as they then freeze hard enough so I can work on them more later or the next day This makes the frozen green stuff stiff enough to resist damage from accidentally touching it. Your freezer is your friend. I have been able to stop items sculpted out of greenstuff from curing for up to several days in the freezer. Silicone is your friend, just place the items in a small silicone cup, bowl or on a piece of silicone so it dinnae stick to anything else. as for the rolls of green stuff most people just cut away the very center... though I hate the waste that involves so I use those middle pieces when sculpting things for my bases... this allows me to salvage those little pieces lastly the green stuff you put in the freezer will slowly become pliable again as it thaws. When doing large sculpts I often used Apoxie Sculpt which comes in huge tubs of the two different parts so it does not pre-harden, though you need to wear gloves and clean your tools after to prevent it gunking up your sculpting tools, than only use green stuff for fine details at the very end.
I really love that you're willing to show when things don't go as planned. and great job continuing to work on it even when it's incredibly difficult.
I get anxiety about painting all of the time and this looks so much more intense than that, so I'm just going to tell myself to keep on pushing and get through the project because at the end of the day it's about making cool stuff and enjoying the process.

If you are going to be sculpting from scratch I highly HIGHLY recommend using either magic sculpt or Aves. Much easier to work with than green stuff and hardens like a rock. I love both these products. I used to use Aves when I made custom action figures decades ago. Or you could even use Super Sculpey if you make large parts separately. Great work man. I love this channel
I recently switched to magic sculpt and totally agree, I'd been dabbling with just GS and the recommendations of GS&MP together and none of them "felt right" but oof that switch to magic sculpt was a level up it mixes soo much easier and isso much more fluid to work with.
For a model of this size, Super Sculpey would be my recommendation, but you have to be careful where you attach the plastic parts, make sure they are temp attached. Super Sculpey requires baking in the oven to harden it - which is exactly why I would recommend it. You can rework the sculpt over hours, days, even weeks if you want, then bake it when you're happy. This would give you the time to perfect the anatomy. Workflow is similar to what you did, make your armature with wire and tin foil (make sure everything you choose can go in the oven), then temp-tack the plastic bits. Sculpt with the Super Sculpey until those parts you are 100% satisfied. Remove the plastic bits, bake the mini, then re-glue and use more traditional mini putty to gap fil and integrate the plastic parts.
I love that you guys did not give up and showed the problem solving!

So glad you are still keeping a positive attitude overall! You can easily tell how passionate you are about the project because bad luck like that hits so much harder.
I’ve found that mixing green stuff and miliput in a 50/50 mix has given me my best results for a sculpting material. I’ve also found that working it with water (miliput especially) that I get very mixed results in consistency. It can be a little bit of a pain for the final clean up but working a Vaseline type substance into the 50/50 was an absolute game changer, and I’d recommend a try with it (on something small at first) to see if you like it. 👍
That is a rough go. I think the true highlight of this video is that despite everything that happened you still continued with the project and made progress. And it is nice to see Emil work on a project he wants to work on verse something he needs to do for content.
I tend to mix milliput with greenstuff and it works way better as a mix than any of them separately.

last year i kitbashed a sanguinius for my buddy.
through that project i may have thought about eating the pile of bits and take a plastic dump that would look more like an angel
in the end (and multiple start from scratch) i have made a badass primarch, now everyone in our group wants their own primarch kitbash
Change the proportion of hardener and clay is the solution with Green Stuff. The blue content causes that rapid hardening to take place - so if you have something you need quick to fill a gap and be dry for painting add more blue, work it quickly, and press it into place. Can be sanded in 60 seconds. If you want malleable soft clay - significantly reduce the blue. Sometimes as low as 50% of the normal content. This can give you a good long while to work with it although if the mix is too low it can be a bit sticky and tacky for a good long while. Also, the curing is aided by temperature. Colder air keeps it fresher, warmer firms it up. So you can use a hair dryer or similar to speed up the process. I assume that's why people kept advising to use water? The only time I use water is to create smooth finishes by thinning the clay down into the equivalent of "slip" (or liquid green stuff).
This is actually really cool. I'm not normally into Fantasy/Age of Sigmar, but these kitbashes are really intruiging and I'd love to see all three complete and fully painted

If you put excess sprue into a jar of Accutane and let it dissolve it will become a very thin paste that rehardens into a flexible rubber material. It may not be the best to sculpt with because it comes out pretty thin at first, but it has applications and it can't be said your using non-GW material.

This reminds me of all the times I used blue-stuff for casting small components, and different types of milliput; fine, standard and terracotta. Terracotta somehow worked out better.
It was a great idea but easier projects would be a Tyranid Prime with a snake body, or a second carapace for both a Swarm Lord and Hive Tyrant. Something like this would definitely need solid sculpting skills, but despite the difficulties you still rose to the challenge. You have the eye of the tiger! 😎

If you ever decide to tackle something like this again, try using Blue Stuff to copy the major structural parts and then the kneaditite & epoxy clay mixed equally and pushed into the molded blue stuff. Less sculpting and material, and you have the structure to build on. Also mixing the two materials together gives the best qualities of both. I would love to see the other two models as well.

Regarding the lost files, you probably already know this, but just in case: If the HDDs didn't explode or haven't been overwritten completely, there is usually something left. Some filesystems create hidden backups automatically. Files can often be recovered with software. And in more complicated cases there are companies that specialize in data recovery. A while back I even revived an old HDD 20 years after it went up in smoke by replacing the broken circuit board with one from another HDD I found on ebay. In many cases, things like this are not as hopeless as they might seem at first.

There are various tips to help get along better with both Kneadadite/Duro (GS) and Milliput that I hope _someone_ gave you (did anyone recommend more yellow than green? that's often a big help) but the main one I was expecting that you'd show since you were also struggling with Milliput is _a mixture of the two_ ...virtually everyone thinks is better than either putty alone if they try it! But honestly I think you found the better solution - using something else 😁😁😁
Literally within the first five minutes I was saying Magic Sculp to the screen, but I was still stoked when you showed the Apoxie Sculpt. Magic Sculpt was the complete gamechanger for me about 20 years ago, after struggling to do anything with the sticky mess that is Milliput, and anything more than small areas and details with GS. Magic Sculpt and Apoxie Sculpt are similar enough that many consider them interchangeable. I don't, although they are close enough, but regardless either one is VASTLY superior to any colour of Milliput for clay-like sculpting 😎

It's been my experience using that specific boxed roll of Green Stuff that in addition to the connection point of blue and yellow needing to be discarded the yellow segment of the putty develops a thin shell that needs to be removed before mixing the blue and yellow portions of the putty. Since I use either smaller segments at a time or larger chunks it's relatively simple to work with it. I'd say it adds maaaaaaybe an additional 30 seconds (or less given the size of the Green Stuff being used) to the process.
But removing that thin shell on the yellow segment is a necessity to getting a workable mix.

Wow! Very surprised at all the difficulty you had with Green Stuff and Milliputt. I guess it makes me feel better that I also can't ever get them to work as well as I want them to, LOL! Also, it really gives credit to those artists/gamers who can absolutely kill it with those materials! I'm always AMAZED at those sculptors who sculpt an entire 28mm miniature with such astonishing details using only Green Stuff. And yes I'VE USED WARM WATER AS WELL!! :D
Does vaseline increase work time? I usually use it to smooth out greenstuff
@@cbjewelz i am not the guy you asked, but i always find i end up with Vaseline in bad spots, then i am gluing greenstuff with super glue and trying to make it work.
Just mix them. 50% milliput grey and 50% green stuff. A big box of cheap gloves and the heat from your hands helps to mix them. I use it all the time. Once dry it can be sanded and drilled.

This is an awesome video. I don’t know if it would work, but one thought that came across my mind was maybe build sub-assemblies of the main giant kit (torso, arms, legs, etc.) and then make resin molds so you can have copies for the other two giants? Might save time/material compared to sculpting from scratch if you ever decide to do something similar in the future
