    We live on the road full time. StarLink is indispensable in remote areas and I keep a Telstra 4g with 300Gb ($89 pm). Wifey has a pre-paid 4G Vodaphone that connects in the strangest remote areas. No SatPhone but carry a PLB. You can rent SatPhones at places like Mt Dare, if you need to.

      Thanks for the info! We’re just onto a similar setup now with Telstra & Optus. There does not seem to be a single solution to internet on the road just yet.

    Expect the speed and performance will improve over time as more satellites are launched.
    Usage has increased but Au has just got basic coverage. Guidance reduced to 20-100mps. Latency is also slower than before.

      Thanks for that. Hopefully performance picks up a bit, particularly the reliability, as it is a great product Cheers

    Thanks again for an honest appraisal of Starlink. often reviews overstate the real benefits without pointing out the down sides. Travel safe

    Thank you very much so much valuable info, I guess it would be good if you wanted say 3 months holiday use and then cancel.

      Yes we are now thinking about using the pause option for Starlink and getting a prepaid Telstra sim so that we can switch systems. A bit of mucking around but hopefully it’s worth the effort 🙂

    Thanks great video, we’ve been thinking about Starlink and you have helped us make up our mind. BTW can you tell me where you got your mast and bracket? Cheers!

    • @beyondthegreyoz
      @beyondthegreyoz  Рік тому

      Thanks Phil, we bought the mast and bracket as part of our antenna solution from www.telcoantennas.com.au but if I was getting one specifically for Starlink it would be a different one. This one works but I only use part of it
      Cheers Paul

    We love our Starlink, we don’t have it mounted on anything. We sit it on the ground near our van facing south. We also just store it on the bed next to our tv when we move! Also the speeds download & upload you say you have been getting sound really low. Maybe it depends on what part of the country you’re in? We are in South Australia and certainly haven’t had the speed issues you spoke about. It will be interesting to see as we continue travelling around to see if that changes

      Thanks for watching and for your feedback. There have been a couple of people who said the location affects speeds so it will be interesting to see if we get better speeds in other regions? Although for the most part the speeds have been fine just not consistent

    Lol - not an unboxing - "A what is in the Box" works for me

    I'll be interested having it when it runs on 12volt

      Yes it would be a lot more appealing to a broader range of travelers.

      Yep, that's coming, already available in Northern America.

    Interestingly mobile phones that will be sat phones and not on a normal network are in development so they will be a game changer. Some Chinese phones have sat messaging built into them already.

    Good video.
    Based on my experience, starlink is much faster in more remote areas when you don't have to share with too many people in your satellite area. In urban areas, Telstra 5G is much better, so I'm running both, which is costing me a small fortune, but I need it for work purposes.
    Hopefully, there will be a business out there soon that develops an automated push button satellite dish solution similar to the foxtel satellite dishes currently on many caravans.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. We’ll be testing it out over the next few weeks as we head to Outback QLD 😉
      Yeah it would be great to have it a bit more set up friendly.

    I think that upload on most systems seems to be pretty much is 10% of the download speed That seems to be the case, even on my fibre-optic cable

      @beyondthegreyoz  Рік тому +1

      Yes we’ve noticed that too. Trouble for us is when it drops below 5Mbps the video calls become unstable

    It’s the same as setting up the annex , if it’s too much trouble send it back and use the nighthawk, then go without wifi when no signal.
    Sounds like you need to go home .

      @beyondthegreyoz  Рік тому

      Thanks Brad, yeah that would be the simplest solution but, the caravan is our home and office so for now we need to keep searching for an internet signal.

      G'day thanks for watching we only work 2 days a week, We have a small telehealth counselling service, we do a bit of investing in the stock markets & crypto, and have more recently started to expand out social media output which generates a small amount of income. We find that it's enough to keep out travels going 😊
      Cheers Paul & Wenda
