This product its holding up great and going strong so we thought we'd post an update video to share how it's doing with those thinking of making the purchase. Portable Garage Shelter UPDATE! Instant/Portable/Temporary/Fabric Garages By Rhino Shelter ua-cam.com/video/qfUCbNstKZU/v-deo.html
Yours is nice and large. I bought a 13X20 and worked great, except for snow load sag, which I had to raise sagging areas with broom to make snow slide off. After some years of use, fabric started to fail, so I removed it all and covered tube frame with 18 sections of 12 X 3 foot sections of steel roofing. Works great, no longer a worry of snow load, it can handle it now with no sagging what so ever now.
Old plastic one gallon lids "Gatorade wide mouth" would make a lovely secondary protection just cut off the locking edge make it flat put tape over the nut then the disk and another piece of tape over the edge of the disk I've never used it but my friend and neighbor I watched her use the trick on a tiny green house this summer will be 5 years and she has it tho the u.v. has worn out the cover but the rub spots are not stressing or catching the cover😎 great video, well done and you 2 made me smile keep it up god bless😎
For insulation and a little more strength you could use spray foam insulation to stick 4' x 8' x 2.5" sheets of blue foam board to the interior of your walls...
I enjoyed watching your video. I know a lot of hours went into making this project a success. Congratulations you did it! Plus you made it enjoyable. You are a Lovely Family! Wishing you continued success!!
Thanks for such a nice encouraging comment we really appreciate that. Hopefully this video helped with any questions, insights, or decisions you may have been looking for. We did make a one year update video aswell if you're intrested. Thanks again take care. 😉👍
When you go to move just back your truck up next to the cable put a piece of pipe up in the top of the bed where the square holes are and put a Come Along on there and hook it around the anchor wench it down some and bounced on the back of the truck bumper and the Springs will pull it right out of the ground that's the way me and Dad would pull fence poles out of the ground Works awesome
Tip....To prevent the wind from flapping the bottom of the "doors" hammer into the ground thick strong dowel pins on inside and outside the outer edge so the pipe fits into that slot when they are lowered. Bricks would work too in place of the dowel pins.
Hey Guys!! Wow Harrison is really growing so fast, he’s gonna be quite the little helper. I was really hoping for a shop tour at the end of the build though. That is one sturdy built tent and all that overhead piping gives you plenty of places to mount cameras to get all kinds of angles of y’all doing your magic!
Amazing how you took something as seemingly mundane as assembling a porta-shelter and turned it into an entertaining adventure! Love your work, folks. Hope to meet you sometime in the future and thank you for inspiring me!
I’ve have a 10 x 20 tent for over 20 years and it still up but it did get damaged from snow because we didn’t get out there in time with the snow rake I don’t know if you gets snow their. You guys did a great job . We have to put a new tarp on every year due to the sun and the weather our tarp was from Cosco not as nice as yours. Yours must’ve cost a fortune
Thanks Steve that is a great idea to help the shelter last. One of the main reasons we went with the rhino versus other brands is because they have an added UV chemical they added in the outer layer and then it also has a black scrim in the middle layer which blocks out all light and uv from penetrating the tent. I can go in that thing during the day and it is pitch black inside its crazy. We will see how how it does hopefully it will last a while for us.
I have a few of the Shelters the oldest one is now 15 years old it is also the best one those from Harbor Fright is cheap they do not last long not even a year and living in Maine where the weather changes all the time they are helpful We are looking at getting another one to put over our Driveway for winter, But Rhino shelters and the Shelter Logic shelters are about the same.
I've had those kind of portable shelters and I found I had to constantly replace the vinyl material every two years or so. And if there was a big wind storm after a long, hot summer, the fabric just ripped and blew off. Since you have lots of sun and wind there in Simi Valley, expect to replace the fabric as frequently as I had to.
Although we wouldn't be super surprised if that did happen we hope it lasts much longer than a couple years. These guys do warranty them for a couple years so if it starts to break down after that hopefully we could just replace it. We make most of our money working out of it so the cost is definitely well worth it for us. Someday a real shop would be the best!
Suggestion, how about slipping the bottom rail through the anchor cable loop before fastening rail onto the support post. Then wrap the anchor cable over top of the rail on the opposite side of rail-post union point where it bolted. Then pound the anchor cable into the ground until snug.. No U-bolt needed!
It looks like it should handle the snow load you get in SoCal without any problem, I'm not sure how it would hold up to the snow we got this year in Idaho. :-D And I love Harrison's nifty skeleton shirt, it's really cute. If you guys would have left him alone long enough I think he would have had the whole thing set up for you. Great video by the way, you always do a really good job with your instructional videos.
We set our posts over star picket posts and drilled a hole straight through and inserted a grade 8 bolt so the workshop doesn't end up in the neighbours property.
That's a great idea! The first few wind storms we had I was so nervous but now that we have had it for over a year and had many windy nights I have learned to relax more. It hasn't moved at all so that's good. Hope yours holds up for a long time.
You know what that's pretty cool frame you could always put sheet metal on that and make it a permanent shelter sheet metal roof sheet metal sides Maybe weldin the door area so you can put a real door on it pretty nice how much did that thing cost
It could have been but I was thinking it was to help prevent corrosion. It is galvanized so that will help. Plus we live in a pretty dry place but if someone lived in a wet area they could always leave the grease on it.
I don't think I would have anchored it down yet not until you slept the tent over the frame you might have to square it up some I would have done the anchors last and just hold the tent out of the way while you do the anchors
Hi Guys...now that you have had this up for awhile how it is working out? Any vendor mfging issues? Any city issues? Anything you wished you would have done in hindsight?? I am looking to put one of these up in my back yard. Thanks
Not sure if you saw we posted this a while back ua-cam.com/video/qfUCbNstKZU/v-deo.html For us it really is one of the best purchases we have made. Surprisingly the sun has not ate through the material and its held up really well. I just screwed up by letting the door flaps rub on the ground instead adjusting the height and it rubbed through the material on the bottom so it won't hold the pipes any more. Nice thing is you can order a new end panel if you want to. I also need to lay down some old carpet or turf some day because its dusty in there when its windy. Customer service has always been nice for us as well. All I can say is we dealt with fixing and repairing the cheap harbor freight ones every single time it got windy. Since we have had this one we never have had any issues. I admit it still scares me watching it move a little when the wind is blowing at 50 mph.
yikes I hope that never happens! but we do loose several other things into the neighbors yard like building materials we are using to build projects like large foam sculptures.
Oh man you are so lucky, just last night I was telling my husband how much I would love to build a giant free standing workshop on our property where it can have its own power source, and I can have all my tools out there and my big saw's, drill press etc. and not to constantly worry about where saw dust is going cause its MY SPACE I told him if I had that he would never see me again cause I would got leave heh. That looks amazing ouchie on the wallet $2,599.00 for the size you bought. But, if you take it down often to save on weather and UV damage maybe you can extend its life so worth it? Do you plan on leaving it up through next winter too? Ahh the beautiful sounds that steal my heart at 42:30 hehe
Yeah we will most likely leave it up only because we have so much junk to store. The tent guys say it should last 10 years so we will see. Even if it lasts half that long I consider us lucky.
@@HollywoodHaunter Wow really? Because even my strongest biggest tarps only survive maybe 2 years outside over my wood walls year round. After that sun eats through the tarps and shreds them and I must go buy another. Very costly in the long run. After seeing your video I been seriously entertaining the notion of buying one for my haunts and just building a layout inside. But, my yard as a deep 20 degree grade I have to also work around and a large thistle tree I also build around each year right in the center of my haunt rofl.
Here is a little part of some of the info on their shelter material. Now I don't know for sure if all the companies claim to have this in their material but we thought it sounded good nonetheless I guess we will see. If it starts looking shabby I can always add a large tarp each year. Its material is a triple stack weave that is strong with a special layer in between the outer and inner layers called an Inner Black Scrim. The Inner Black Scrim has a coating that blocks 100% sunlight from penetrating through the material. The shelter cover fabric is infused with a special chemical inside and outside to protect it against the sun's harmful UV Rays. This special chemical not only coats the outer fabric for protection against UV Rays but also makes the material waterproof as well as giving it protection against scuffs to preserve the outside appearance.

I agree with you that sounds very durable even if I do not know what all that meant rofl it sounded good though. I will be keeping my eye on you guys and your lovely builders base ;) Save a corner for me and I will move my tools right in too lol JK
We have had up to 55-60 mph wind gusts with it. Its held up ok but I won't lie I barley sleep through the nights stressed out listening to it flap in the wind. Plus I have to go out every once in awhile to zip the doors closed that work themselves un zipped a little. Here's a little update if your interested ua-cam.com/video/qfUCbNstKZU/v-deo.html
It'd be nice if they had a 10 x 20 carport canopy with these size frame poles, it'd come in handy here in Florida. Anyone know of any heavy duty canopy makers ?
Why does everyone do the same thing . They add the legs first and try to stand it up and work 10 foot off the ground to connect the top . . Just leave the legs for last and put the top part together while its close to the ground once the top is together then add the legs one side at a time . Also go ahead and put the tarp on the top before the legs and when you add the legs your working in the shade to tighten every thing up . You can just fold it out of the way when you start on the end tarp .
That is a good logical way to do it if you can and we have set up our smaller lightweight harbor freight style car ports that way. But for this one you would have a fork lift or genie lift of some kind to lift one side up at a time specially with the top on. The two of us struggled to just carry top tarp together. I think that's why the manual instructs you to do to the way we did. But I agree any kind of work is easier on the ground. Good exercise though
Its holding up great, no leaks. One of the zippers seperated from the wind and is harder to move now but we are still happy with it. We're working on a new video with a party tent from them and were thinking of doing a quick update.
We plan on adding the screw anchors for extra strength but I asked the factory guys about the concrete and they said its actually more secure in dirt and doesn't move as much when stuck in the ground. Something about when on concrete it tends to slide back and forth on the blocks which can cause the cover to flap more from loosing. Not for sure if it would be better or not. Thanks for writing us about the ideas.
"This came all the way from Connecticut!" I really didn't expect to hear that as I bring you this comment all the way from Connecticut. There isn't much going on here these days, it's boring as hell here.
I had to fly into Groton a few times and drive to Foxwoods Casino to repair games for the price is right traveling show a couple times around Christmas. I really enjoyed to views but man it was chilly.
No experience with that cause we don't get it here but I'd think it would work well as far as not taring from the weight. I'd think if it was a heavy snow fall a person would want o try and knock off the worst of it.
Hi folks! The fact that you were having to make slits in the tarping, without a proper means of being able to further reinforce these new holes and not be allowed the use of a screw type anchoring system in your kit would be a massive turn-off for me! Sixty miles an hour winds will definitely raise big time hell with that structure. I just hope that you are able to get those kinds of kinks out of your system is all! Now, if it were not a rental property, I would auger out those anchor point holes and pore concrete and use the long screw anchors into the cement gravel mix before the cement was to set up; just saying! That structure couldn't have been cheap by a longshot and I feel that perhaps you would need to protect your investment big time with the use of some extra added protection features. Honestly, I bought a 10' X 12' shed back in 2006 with flooring and it actually came with tornado strapping and screw anchors for good measure! I just hope that things all work out for you folks! You are a great team, all three of yahs!! Thank-You for that great video!
Thanks Craig, The material is cool how it will not rip I tried and it just stretches. We are getting some auger style anchors to add to the shelter and we have several sandbags that we can clip on to the frame if we need to. I'm hoping since its set up right next to the real garage it won't be as bad. We will see how it does this winter. Thanks for the input.
@@HollywoodHaunter hahaha, I'm sure you're right. I was making a general statement that those 'nice' specially contoured washers have a 'down' side too. hahaha You two did an awfully nice job putting up that gianormous shelter. very impressive.
They range in price depending on size of course, this 22' x 24' x 12' goes for around $2,500 The cost is more than other companies like shelterlogic but after I looked at both products in person they didn't compare. The rhino was way more heavy duty. We have gone through a few cheaper harbor freight ones over the past years and thought we would take a chance and spend more money this time so we will see how long this one lasts.
I know they have a two year warranty for their shelters but I'm not sure about details on replacing due to wind damage. If you live in a windy place you pretty much can't have anything like outdoor furniture, covers, umbrellas, or anything stay nice for long. The fight gets real old quick that's for sure.
It's a huge step up for us! We had been using broken parts from cheap harbor freight ones scabbed together with tek screws, plumbers strap and a large tarp held down by sand bags. I spent more time replacing the cover each time it got windy than the projects I was working on underneath it. It's all still cheaper than renting a shop for us.
I don't know how many years these things last but its been over a year so far and its doing fine we made an one year update video a while back. ua-cam.com/video/qfUCbNstKZU/v-deo.html

@@HollywoodHaunter Thank you for the update, those guys have more experience than I with these shelters for sure.
Thank you. For the video. Any update. .?
we plan on making one soon
Holy shit.. your longest vlog ever... lol
I guess the longer we're away the longer our Vlogs should be LOL!!!
"This came all the way from Connecticut!"
I really didn't expect to hear that as I bring you this comment all the way from Connecticut.
There isn't much going on here these days, it's boring as hell here.
I had to fly into Groton a few times and drive to Foxwoods Casino to repair games for the price is right traveling show a couple times around Christmas. I really enjoyed to views but man it was chilly.
Hi from Oregon.
😜🤣✌🇺🇸🤙
GOD BLESS YOU ALL
How does this tent stand up to snow
No experience with that cause we don't get it here but I'd think it would work well as far as not taring from the weight. I'd think if it was a heavy snow fall a person would want o try and knock off the worst of it.
you are a Blessed man too have a woman like this ! But u already knew that ! LOL
Did it last a year?

still standing so far 👍
Thanks for the input.
would love to get 2 of them .....but i dont think my wife would let me LOL !! HFL!!
That's what I thinking of doing and then stick them together. They even make a piece that connects them end to end. Would be perfect for a haunt.
I got 3 one for the wife to stay in.
How long can this tent last?
We have had it for a year now and its still doing well. We plan on making a little update video in the near future.
Hollywood Haunter thanks I’m thinking of a affordable opportunity like that
excises video
Price?
As ridgid as the frame is, you would figure metal would be used instead of fabric.
A lot of people have done the metal. We are renting right now but will probably change over to metal when we move someday.
you needed to have the baby help mommy lol
try not to put the specially contoured washers on backwards....
Ya that may have happened a couple times during this install lol
@@HollywoodHaunter hahaha, I'm sure you're right. I was making a general statement that those 'nice' specially contoured washers have a 'down' side too. hahaha
You two did an awfully nice job putting up that gianormous shelter. very impressive.
It better be for 1500 bucks more
Can’t get a bb
all those holes you manually cut are just going to rip wide open over time. hard time believing that is part of the install instructions.
They haven't ripped at all over the years yet not even a little. Not joking its very surprising even with 50 mph wind.
Actually, the paw prints look more like raccoon paw prints
ya it could be, we have them around here as well always trying to get into our trash. As long as they don't live inside the tent.
the 3 of u come 2 help me put mine up lol
Rhino
how much is it?
They range in price depending on size of course, this 22' x 24' x 12' goes for around $2,500 The cost is more than other companies like shelterlogic but after I looked at both products in person they didn't compare. The rhino was way more heavy duty. We have gone through a few cheaper harbor freight ones over the past years and thought we would take a chance and spend more money this time so we will see how long this one lasts.
This thing would be destroyed in a week here in Las Cruces, NM WIND!!!!!!!
I know they have a two year warranty for their shelters but I'm not sure about details on replacing due to wind damage. If you live in a windy place you pretty much can't have anything like outdoor furniture, covers, umbrellas, or anything stay nice for long. The fight gets real old quick that's for sure.
Looks like a target for city inspectors, they love shit like this, I wish government would just go away for stuff like this...
These are junk. I had built one of these years ago but it blew over despite having heavy anchors to hold it down
It's a huge step up for us! We had been using broken parts from cheap harbor freight ones scabbed together with tek screws, plumbers strap and a large tarp held down by sand bags. I spent more time replacing the cover each time it got windy than the projects I was working on underneath it. It's all still cheaper than renting a shop for us.
Your worried about the color so it doesn't look like a eye sore? Look at all that junk around there .
42;53.lol
lol
What a shame( or sham). All that work for a cover that'll last only one year
I don't know how many years these things last but its been over a year so far and its doing fine we made an one year update video a while back. ua-cam.com/video/qfUCbNstKZU/v-deo.html
