      Tow truck driver is excluded. His ram is commercial chasis 4500 series.🤣

    Alot of people dont realize how dangerous this is ,there has been many people killed by a cable that breaks and hits them causing death you have to think about all this you dont just pull up and drag a vehicle out of a bad situation, yeah its pretty scary to say the least, very well done stay safe and god bless

      I had an 18 wheeler up on right side tires pulling with two cables all blocked by State patrol on both ends. Some crazy woman with kids in a minivan cam screaming around the cops straight at my cables. I had to drop the cables just before she ran over them. It surely would have cut the top clean off that minivan. Not sure what happened to the kids but she had free room and board . One dumb woman.

    • @MrStaybrown

      True, most have gone to using multiple winches with synthetic ropes and synthetic attachments. Cables are dangerous.

    • @lbtt295
      @lbtt295 5 місяців тому

      @MrStaybrown every item has a working load limit, synthetic or metal, and a tow truck driver can estimate the resistance per axle.
      In this case the gradient has transfered a lot of weight to rhe front axle from the rear.
      The front axle on this truck weighs 5k lbs, the tires are on soft dirt and the frame is mired, I would guess 100 percent of front axle weight plus rear to front transfer of approx 1k lbs , so it's about a 6k lb pull. Could go up to 9k depends on how wedged the body is tuck.
      State police usually require improved plow steel 6x19 wire rope

    Real life never anticipate customer interaction in case of a lawsuit! Always put on the emergency brake in case of runaway! You are the crew chief in a serious situation that can be deadly, check and Ensure for yourself as an recovering operator usually is! Make sure the vehicle is in neutral and the emergency brake is on and working. How do I know I have read countless tow truck operators who have lost their livelihoods

    With that much weight in the ditch, I definitely would have put a snatch block at the truck. That's a 3/8 line, I imagine? I was a bit worried... But I guess everything's on your flatbed?
    Job is done, no one's hurt, and nothing broke. Always the best end to any day. That was a good move pulling the back down, too, get the nose lifted up a little.
    Very nice work, as always.

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  Рік тому +6

      Definitely not how I wanted to do it, but this truck is pretty under-equipped, and most of the stuff on it is what I took out of my flatbed.

    A good winchout requires a knowledge of mathematics. Geometry, weights and measures ,dead reckoning and the art of estimations and nothing beats EXPERIENCE. The first year towing is when you learn what NOT to do. Because when you 100 miles from home its just you out there to save someones life . People love their 2nd most expensive purrchase next to their home. When it breaks ,its life altering.

    As a tow company owner. I am glad you were able to recover that vehicle. However, I’m going to offer you some constructive criticism. Number one you never ever use your safety chain box as a pull point. That extreme load you put on that completely exceeded its design. Not to mention that’s not what it’s designed for. Number two, I would have doubled up my line because of the extreme pressure that exceeds the 3/8 cable on your truck. If that cable had snapped, you would have shock loaded your truck not to mention somebody getting hurt or worse. The forces you were up against was not only the weight of the truck. Also, once you brought the truck down, you were dragging on the frame which created more resistance. Lastly, I wanted to point out. You should never ever allow the customer to be involved in your recovery. Because if something catastrophic had gone wrong it would’ve been all bad. Safety is number one in our industry. I want to see you go home every night. Just my thoughts my friend.

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  Рік тому +1

      Trust me. I didn’t want to do any of that, but didn’t have much choice. This truck is so under equipped, that I had to pull equipment off my rollback before I dropped it off at the dealership, and it still Isn’t enough.
      Trust me. I absolutely hate having to work like this. I’ll be so glad when I can get back to my truck so I have all my equipment.

    Years ago I went shopping for a 4wd pick up for my work. I went to Ford, GM and Dodge. I was shocked by what every sales person advised.
    They all quizzed me as to the type and nature of my driving requirements. I told how I used my truck in my job.
    They told me that for the number of days I would actually benefit from a 4x4, verses the added expenses in fuel, maintenance and repair costs, I would be better off calling in sick on those few days and buying a two wheel drive. I was disappointed, but couldn't get over their candor.
    I driven both over the years, but I'd have to say that two wheel drive pick ups have served millions of people well across the decades, so they are far from useless. Maybe it all depends on the operator.

    Just me because I've been through recovery for 40 years, I'm almost thinking from the front Tire strap the front wheel and slowly backing out with the emergency brake parsley on. Simply because I don't want to twist the frame of the truck any more than it needs to be, for me this should be a straight recovery where the owner gets to drive it away

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  Рік тому

      The drove it away, and there was hardly any stress on it. It wasn’t stuck on anything. The best think to do there was to bring it away from the tipping point.

    Well done, although those big D rings on the wrecker body are significantly stronger for rigging your low snatch block. These are fun calls... they look like a big deal to the customer.. in reality it's s an easy job...

    • @Towtruck_Dustin
      @Towtruck_Dustin  Рік тому +1

      That’s what I planning to rig to, but the snatch block didn’t have a grab hook. So I had to do what I had to do.

    • @woody4u247
      @woody4u247 Рік тому +1

      @Towtruck_Dustin you.can still.use a chain block with those, just choke it up tight to the block... but realistically, that wasn't a hard pull, just a medium pull pivoting that Cummins back up til it rolled.... that's why I said, we get those...they look like a big deal, but they're easy & ya get brownie points for what they think is tough. Well done though.. staybsafe out there ;)
