I took care of degus as a child and dreamt of having one again. I fell in love with a little girl so I bought her. Then I went on finding a degu friend for her but most were unneutered males. Then I happened to find twin sisters and felt sorry for the twin left behind so I bought both. (No chance to adopt degus from other owners. The closest girl was 1000 km away.) Now I've been hunting for a large cage for the last 10 days. And hopefully during the next 2 weeks they can move into a new home.
Facts 1. They can’t eat vegetables 2.they need to live in a group 3.they are known as desert rats 4.they are half squirrel 5.they can be let out of a cage but they must be supervised because they might bite a cable . I have 2 and they are called billy and bob . And they will live up to 8 years. Hope this was helpful. Btw when getting a pet always do your research.

Degus are cool. I have a male/female pair. They can eat grass, romaine lettuce, and carrots once in awhile. Mainly rodent blocks and timothy hay. They need dust baths not mentioned. Recently, you can get gray, black, and beige with various amounts of white. The male is a black dalmatian. The female is blue (gray). Singles usually loose their tail hair. That's why you keep them in pairs. 🐀🐾

I used to own chinchillas but they both passed away unexpectedly which I'm very sad about, but apparently, chinchillas dying unexpectedly have happened to others before. Are degus known to do this too? I'm trying to decide if I'm ready to move on from my chins but I found a pair of degus that need a home on craigslist and I really want to adopt them. But I wouldn't be able to take the heartbreak of another animal dying unexpectedly.

Hey i was just wondering id anyone knows my problem with my degus Recently i noticed that he went from really thin to really fat, it might have to do with his food, since i mixed some treats in it to encourage him to eat, not too much though, but enough for both of my degus. And just now i saw that his poop is a lot paler than normal, does it have anything to do with the treats? He’s acting like normal, sleeping a lot, running around chewin* on his toys, etc. But I’m kinda worried Unfortunate update #1: i think that he- i mean they might be pregnant i’m not sure about the gender since my other degu literally tried having seggs with my *may-be-pregnant* degu Unfortunate update #2: she just gave birth WAY too early-...

I think some of those ratings should be inverted, e.g. space requirements. If they have large space requirements they should get less paws because they will be more difficult to house.
I have had a degu for about a year now. I still can't trust him to run in my room because I don't trust myself. But he used to have a friend who passed he is now alone Do you think i should get another degu to be with him?
If you cannot play with your Degu a LOT, make sure you have TWO!! They are VERY SOCIAL and will literally GO CRAZY if you don't play with them often. Make sure any Degu you purchase has been raised with OTHER DEGUS. Again, if a Degu doesn't have a companion (or you) to play with a LOT, they will go CRAZY! I had a Degu for years, and she had 7 babies. It was so fun playing with the babies. They are born WITH TEETH and EYES OPEN and WITH FUR! It is unusual to see this as other baby rodents are born blind and furless. The babies would all crowd onto the exercise wheel and try to ride it at once. Lots of funny antics.
I really would like to get a degu but I go to my dads every other weekend for the night so I wouldn't be able to play with it that day. would that be ok for him. my mum or step dad would feed him but it would be only every other weekend so wondered if he would be ok?!?!
