I remember reading in a book about the Beatles that John Lennon considered Ringo the "taste tester" whenever the band tried a new substance. They let Ringo try it first to gauge what kind of reaction to expect. Ringo was always game.
Freeway i always thought that to be Paul, well at least when it came to drugs. Ringo was surprisingly open to a lot of those things though because he’s so layed back and goes with the flow
I just came back to my hometown of Boston from New York, and mom tells me that the Law has lessened its harsh attitude towards the use of weed. Amazing what time can do
I feel the same about like, David Gilmour and Angus Young and Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Bob Dylan. I mean the list goes on and on. Living in the same time as these musicians that have changed music forever, it's a crazy feeling
Nah that LP is their most overrated by far (their worst is Let It Be) as they were already waiting to leave the band and their energy was of nostalgia, well produced but lacking the energy they had once had. I say start with Rubber Soul, Sgt Pepper and the White Album. Other great ones are With the Beatles, Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour and A Hard Days Night. Still even their weak one's are better than most bands best!
He's admitted in interviews. He described himself as an alcoholic, absent father and wife beater. He entered rehab after badly beating his second wife Barbara Bach while in a drunken blackout. So this is over many years. He's a much more complex character than the loveable Ringo we all know. Google it, it's not hard to confirm as he's admitted it himself a few times.
K Michael yeah you claim Illuminati and a video but at the end you'll see that Ringo Starr actually turns down the credit that comes and tries to give him for the marijuana becoming legalized in California so as you can see if you examine it you realize that Ringo doesn't want to be a poster boy for the drug
i like how courteous and well mannered conan is being. i find a lot of the interviewers of the beatles interrupt them all the damn time, and yet here, i got to hear from ringo in his own timing, passion and detail. im really thankful for that

Ringo is the coolest man alive--(did you notice he was wearing two peace signs?)...I heard him say in an interview once that he "spends his time moving toward things that are about Love and moving away from things that are not"...that's cool
I love Ringo! It made me remember the 2nd time I smoked weed. I felt nothing the first time. The second time was at a friends. My best friend and her bf and my bf all were going to cook out. One guy broke out one helluva bong and we didn't have the cookout, we called in a pizza. We were so high and laughing so hard all four of us couldn't get up to answer the door when the pizza came. Luckily, the door was unlocked, but it took FOREVER to get the guy to come in because when one of us started to yell, come in, we'd bust out in the most uncontrollable laughter. Anyway, it was 1984! A great year indeed!!
Funnily enough, he did the Thomas thing because he was already so good with kids. The Beatles knew that Yellow Submarine was going to appeal to kids as well so they had Ringo sing it. He's always been so paternal. In fact there's this amazing clip of a little girl that chats with Ringo on a train during their first trip to America. And Ringo doesn't make a fuss about it or anything, just immediately begins to entertain the little girl.
Kommandant_PretzelsV2 Once, an engine attached to a train Was afraid of a few drops of rain. It rushed into a tunnel and squeaked through its funnel And wouldn’t come out again. The conductor blew his whistle till he had no more breath and waved his flag till his arm was sore. But Henry stayed in the tunnel and blew smoke at him. “I’m not going to spoil my lovely green paint and red stripes in front of you!” Then along came Sir Topham Hatt, the man in charge of all the engines on the Island of Sodor. “We will pull you out.” He said. Everyone pulled except him. “My doctor has forbidden me to pull.” Then they tried pushing from the other end of the tunnel. But it didn’t work. “My doctor has also forbidden me to push.” At last, Thomas came along. The conductor waved his flag to stop him. Everyone argued with Henry. “Look, it stopped raining.” They said. “Yes, but it will begin again soon.” Said Henry. “Then what will become of my green paint and red stripes then?” Thomas pushed and puffed and puffed and pushed as hard as ever he could. But still, Henry stayed in the tunnel. Eventually, even Sir Topham Hatt gave up. “We shall take away your rails,” He said. “And leave you here until you’re ready to come out of the tunnel.” They took up the old rails and built a wall in front of Henry so that the other engines wouldn’t bump into him. All Henry could do was to watch the trains going through the other tunnel. He was very sad because he thought no one would ever see his lovely green paint and red stripes again. As time went on, Edward and Gordon would often pass by. Edward would say, “Peep, peep, peep! Hello!” And Gordon would say, “Poop, poop, poop! Serves you right!” Poor Henry had no steam to answer. His fire had gone out. Soot and dirt from the tunnel had spoiled his lovely green paint and red stripes anyway. How long do you think Henry will stay in the tunnel before he overcomes his fear of the rain and decides to journey out again?
Ive played drums for the past 35 years. ive been around ALOT of drummers, been in alot of drum discussions with other drummers, and seen tons of interviews with other drummers. Ringo Starr is the name comes up time and time again as the drummers choice as their favorite drummer of all time.
Ringo is 73 years old !!! He looks like hes in his late 40's. He was the least serious and the most funny of the Beatles. I always love to hear him talk ..great guy.
I like how Conan is promoting this as Ringo dropping a gem of a story just for Conan's show. This story has long been in the public eye. It's one of the most important events in modern history. When Bob met the Beatles in their hotel in NY, it changed the course of popular music for the rest of the century. It's well documented. This is merely a retelling of this story on Conan's show by Ringo.
i thought it would be a setup for another variation of the story i'd heard. that Dylan did pass to Ringo first, but never having smoked anything other than cigs before Ringo assuming he should treat it the same, he smoked the entire joint down himself. and that he was then catatonic in the sky with diamonds while the others laughed their heads off.
For whatever reason, Ringo always tells this story wrong. What actually happened was famed American journalist Al Aronowitz arranged that evening for The Beatles to meet Bob Dylan...and to be introduced to pot. Ringo reluctantly was the first to try it ONLY because within the "pecking order" of that band it was decreed by John Lennon that Ringo would always be the first one to try something new...as the others watched. If Ringo seemed to enjoy it, only then would the other Beatles follow suit.
I was lucky enough to have known of Ringo in the beatles when i was kid, but i think a lot of kids today know of ringo today because of his early work with thomas the tank engine. I don't watch the show really at all anymore, but its funny to think of when ringo gets brought up among my friends Ringo Starr and how i liked his music its usually "wasn't he mr. conductor on shining time station" and i just lol.
I watched that Get Back show, I caught a really great comment from Linda (oh Linda!), she said: "i'm the most at peace around Ringo". How sweet. He really comes across as the nicest coolest dude, just chill an lovin' life as much as possible.
Well he didn’t write Yellow Submarine, he just sung it. And Octopus’s Garden was probably a psychedelic trip and was written when the Beatles all went to India to practice meditation
when the beatles first came to america, they sold 4 buttons/pins each with a different beatles face on them. the ringo buttons outsold the 3 others by 5x times. there’s a reason why. ringo is beloved.
Dylan assumed - before he met them - that The Beatles were already turned onto pot because he misheard the lyric in 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' that says "It's such a feeling that my love, I can't hide, I can't hide, I can't hide" and instead thought they were singing: "It's such a feeling that my love, I get high, I get high, I get high".
ringo is still hilarious. it's obvious why they chose him, waited for him, and never let him leave. even when he left they waited for him and threw him a celebration upon his return. ringo has the heart
Matches_Malone He’s not talking about when they were still touring. Ringo got pissed off at one point during the White Album period and left the band. They welcomed him back with a roomful of flowers.
Its funny, you can tell when Conan respects somebody on his show because he literally WONT interrupt them ever. you dont often see that kind of respect with Conan XD

Rain, Ticket To Ride, Day in The Life, Strawberry Fields Forever. Come Together. Ringo has left his mark his sound has made a difference. And his voice is one of the most recognizable voice there is. He's smart, he's kind and he's gentle. And led a pretty good life. And look at his friends!
I remember reading in a book about the Beatles that John Lennon considered Ringo the "taste tester" whenever the band tried a new substance. They let Ringo try it first to gauge what kind of reaction to expect. Ringo was always game.

I've always seen Ringo as the more conservative of the group.
Freeway i always thought that to be Paul, well at least when it came to drugs. Ringo was surprisingly open to a lot of those things though because he’s so layed back and goes with the flow

has to do with his childhood. Been tough.
Kids love him because he was the first narrator of Thomas the Tank Engine.
The Conductor.
And he sang yellow submarine
He also narrated The Point, Harry Nilsson's brilliant full-length animated feature. If you haven't seen it, you should.
us kids are still too young to remember that tho :/

Ringo Starr. The man's a living legend.
Damn Ringo just never ages...always luved him, just a straight on, funny dude!
Ringo and the All Star Band was one of my favorite concert experiences. Of course everybody loves Ringo! He's lovable!
