    What bothers me is that they weren't using winter diesel. The fuel failed, not the car. In Nordic countries petrol stations switch to winter diesel when the season changes.

    • @stevenbanaan
      @stevenbanaan 6 років тому +104

      or just petrol, because diesel works by self igniting at a certain temperture (when you start the car the combustion chamber needs to be heated for which it has glowing sticks) and usually when it touches the top of the combustion chamber. while petrol works by simply igniting the fuel just like if you were to use a lighter

      I've honestly never heard of winter diesel, I live on a farm in Canada and as far as I know the tractors run on the same dyed diesel from 35*C to -35*C. We plug the block heaters in below zero but some of the engines will still start without it. What kind of winters are you seeing on your side of the pond?

    • @mgr_live
      @mgr_live 6 років тому +131

      @@RobKaiser_SQuest you live on a farm, in North America, and only tractors or heavy duty pick up trucks use diesel there. In Europe, diesel powered small passenger cars are very common. Winter diesel avoids that 50% of Finland (or any other cold countries) has to heat the fuel tank of their cars every morning for half an hour before going to work.
      Also, I think that in some countries in Europe all gas stations switch to winter diesel once winter starts. So you wouldn't necessarily know that you're pumping winter diesel, if you didn't ask

And im sure if you live in a cold climate you have a cold weather battery. So overall your car is nothing like the Diesel Citron and cant be compared in any way.

In Finland atleast we have winter diesel which is mixed with alcohol so that it doesn´t freeze like that until temperatures of minus 40 C during the winter. I have driven a citroen during the winter standing outside and working perfectly well in low temperatures.

    If any of you are having trouble finding a Hammond at a lower price (as they are quite expensive) I have a stock of 4-year old fully functioning Hammonds, obviously withstanding temperature has dropped slightly, at a couple thousand. Each have their own small problems listed but can be fixed with a bit of handy work. As they are a bit old the colouration on the top has faded to a grey but a re-dye isn't required if you don't want one.

      no, what the main factor in it is the fuel and oil, most diesels run a 15w40 motor oil, but in winter weather should be a 0w40 or 5w40, and the fuel, as soon as the fuel gells up it will never start, places that get below 0 for wintrer run an additive in the gas stations big tanks to keep it from freezing and to thin it out a little bit, and than alot of diesel owner of cars and trucks will put another additive into there fuel tanks to make sure it wont gel up at all.

      Anthony Houle I think the problem in the video was more to do with the fact that they didn't use winter fuel, coolant and oil.
      that's why when warm countrys have a bad winter they have more problems with their cars. It doesn't matter who designed the car, it's not going to run on frozen petrol.

      Garry Koalman and i live in northern sweden, and here they also still sell the crap during winter also, even when they sell winter diesel, it still contains Bio-Diesel! what the hell.. Plus older engines hate both fuels. why? because it's dry and thin and is tailored for modern common rail systems. but what they fail to relize is that, Common rail engines didn't become commen up until the late 2000s. then what do i do? well i go over to Finland and buy Diesel there because atleast they understand their Market. and thanks to the EU i don't have to pay squat when going through Customs HAHA! The engine turned over twice and sounded really lazy, but it started! I love my Mazda.
    Citroën is not a very valued brand here up north. When the temp drops below -10 C it's unlikely to start and it's not considered very reliable either.

      This is the UK, we don't have such things as Winter/Summer Diesel, once the Diesel gels, without a fuel heater no engine is starting on it, it's not technically the cars fault.
      EDIT: Thought I should add, this car is also a Toyota.

    • @E39Passion
      @E39Passion 8 років тому +1

      deafyboy86 Of course there is winter/summer diesel in UK. The difference is not shown or advertised on the Gas station, but from October the Diesel that is sold always contents additives to avoid freezing. It is still just called 'diesel' on the Station, just the mixture is different. As far as I know, this is the procedure for all countries northern and central Europe.
      You can try it on your own. Buy some liters of diesel in summer and put it in your empty tank in winter. The car won't start with the Summer Diesel, because it is like honey. Then go to the gas station and get some more Diesel that is sold there during frosty temperatures and the car will start.
