  • Richard Hammond investigates the crucial role water plays. Without water, there would be almost no weather: no rain, no snow, no hail, no clouds. So Richard goes in pursuit of water in all its forms. He tries to weigh a cloud, finds out how rain could crush a car, and gets involved in starting an avalanche.

Hammond wasn't instantly famous. He worked as a radio presenter for BBC until he joined Top Gear in 2002.
Already in 2003 (again, not really famous at that time) he also presented the show "Brainiac: Science Abuse".
My point is, Richard Hammond has always done science stuff even before he became famous.
Not much different from James May i might add. Except James is also very much into doing fiddly stuff.

Here's a long one - comment that is. Your channel is a new discovery for me. You have a great sense of humour and an attractive character to go along with great content. Thanks for all the vids (many of which I have still to watch). I watched your reaction to your first UA-cam video and it was both amusing and unsettling. As someone who is about to start uploading vids frequently soon, I can see my awkward stiffness and forced humour/forced everything without even having to look back so it's daunting to expose myself all uninitiated and stuff. Hopefully I'm doing the right thing by moving ahead with my awkwardness and relying on good content and merciful viewers (ya, right) rather than trying to polish my performance before debuting. I feel like it's a bit like polishing a turd at this point anyway if I'm honest :P Anyway, my chanel is about builds and I'm very impressed with your DIY vids - you have some amazing ingenuity and great skills. Your results are seriously impressive. It's also cool that you're so local to me as I'm in the Fraser Valley. All the best!

You gave me an idea for a new avalanche survival device :-D it acts as a half cone type structure that you can get below, and then has a piston to lift and push up as you dig with it, to get you out :-D You can deploy it quickly and buckle down... When the avalanche starts to settle, thats when you start pumping the device to make it pushes to the sides and up as you dig up and it follows around you to help... its a fairly simple concept, but building with strong enough materials to hold the weight and light enough to carry as a safety device is an issue...
Each device should have a GPS sensor and a close range high frequency broadcast beacon for anyone searching :-D
The main issue is to create it Fold-able, light, and Easy design to allow a flow over it instead of into you...

Fast avalanche. Early snows build up in the mountains. Then the weather warms and the surface melts and freezes at night. Then another 12' or more of snow over the winter. Spring rains do not melt the snow, it runs thru. The water contacts the ice layer and lubricates it. When it lets go, the speed is unreal. Don't get in the way!

Samuel Phippen You can use one of the greatest half-american inventions - Google, to find out. I suppose you can read letters in american, if not use another american invention - Siri on your iPhone.
See, there are so many things for you to find shit out with, you don't even have to move your body...and yet you ask in the comments, like a wanker.
