The Disgraceful Mage uses the element of surprise. The Cowardly Warrior over-trains to compensate for their fear. The Corrupt Priest takes joy in his work and heals everyone, regardless of their mistakes. The Fake Hero relies on his own strength and skill, instead of an overpowered weapon. Are you sayin that smile wasn't on the original source? Because if it was, then the author wouldn't have known which VA would be voicing the characters, and smug faces existed before Anya was even a thing.
13:27 "Men like it when you give them that kind of things" is indeed one of the biggest memes from Frieren, with the potion in her hand replaced by random stuff.
In reality, that means the Demon King wasn’t a threat that required the actual Hero’s Sword which means there’s an even more powerful enemy in the future. It’s great world-building because it allows the author to actually bring in more powerful enemies without making it some random freak accident thing.
There has always been confusion about King Arthur's sword. The thing is that there are many versions of the myth. But as far as myths go, the most common is that there are two swords, the one trapped in the stone that leads him to become king. This sword breaks, and Arthur gets another from the hand of the Lady of the Lake, which would be the sword Excalubir, the unbreakable weapon forged by Merlin.
I like the flashback with Stark and his brother. If they can make it to Aureole, I love to see Stark talk with his brother (if his brother really died)
Instead of "he's just a child," I think what they were implying is that every one of them has faced a demon when they were kids. It's a "Village of Warriors" and probably has a very different culture and values. But it's also probably why they got wiped out completely, save for Stark. No one else ran. Everybody else fought and met their end. Which makes Eisen's teaching even more valuable to someone like Stark. Fear is not a bad thing. Fear keeps you alive. And when it comes down to it, fighting through so much fear it makes you tremble is much more heroic. Oh and that shot of Frieren holding the bottle instantly became a meme when this episode first came out. Sometimes we just stumble on something we instantly recognize as meme-worthy. 😂
Himmel was not the chosen one, He chose to be one. Eisens with the best voice-lines for my opinion. i think Stark thought about his brother that he would be deserved to be called Hero.
Myth tidbit for the discussion at the end: The sword in the stone is the sword that made Arthur the King, and at some point later on during a battle he fights in, it's broken. What happens after that is a little bit hazy and changes from version to version of the story, but he then goes to visit the Lady of the Lake, who, depending on the version of the story, either fixes the sword for him and names it Excalibur, or gives him a new sword entirely, named Excalibur. in just about every recording of the myth, Arthur both pulls the sword from the stone and receives a sword from the Lady of the Lake.
13:20 "lets animate the hell out of people putting on jackets" 😂 also, stark's battle with the solar dragon, linnie's fight sequence, fern completely owning lugner 😂 🫴💴 💴 💴 💴 💴 💴 💴
That or there is a greater calamity waiting for them considering later on in the manga a certain demon has the ability there might be more danger than just the demon king
i recommend looking up the meaning of the names at the end of the episode, the names all mean something in german and usually describe the character, very interesting naming convention
What I really, really love about this episode is that it says: "Everyone can be a hero in their own way, even if the Hero's Sword doesn't think they are." For Stark, his brother was a Hero and I think we can all agree that, indeed, Stoltz was a freaking Hero.
The hero sword stucked on the rock might be just a test to the future hero for their determination. If they give up their journey to defeat evil just because they couldn't pull up the sword, then they don't fit to be a hero.
I don't know why reactors keep thinking Stark as a child is enough reason for him to not be able to fight some random monster. They're a warrior village in a fantasy world, there must be a reason why they think young Stark is weak. All the childrens of young Stark age probably already fighting or defeat some weak monster.
There are two swords. The true excalibur he recives from the lady in the lake. The other one (dont remember if it was also called excalibur or something close to it, he pulls from the rock)
I have a theory about the sword. Maybe the real threat in the prophercy hasn't showed up yet, therefore Himmel couldn't pull the sword. Maybe the author will save this for future plot
Theory A: The threat the sword is for hasn't arrived yet, Theory B: the sword can't be pulled out of the stone and is only there to test the resolve of heroes trying to defeat the Demon King. Himmel passed the test because he resolved to get it done without some magical macguffin.
I'm not a manga reader so here's a genuine theory - what if down the line we find out Stark did pull the Hero Sword but left it in the cave? Because he wanted to keep Himmel's memory honored. So he was worthy, but chose not to take the sword. Would be dope.
Himmel couldn’t pull out the sword because he was a fake hero, instead he wasn’t the destined hero. That sword was for someone who can save everyone from world destruction. Demon king may be dominated the world but not destroyed it. That's a great way to tell a story. It just means there is something more of that
In King Arthur myth there are two swords. The one pulled from the stone and when it gets broken he gets the one from the lady in the lake. Allot of stories just go with Excalibur and have it be the only sword in the story.
These is one of my favourite stark episodes knowing is origins makes me feel that he was ment to defeat the demon lord (but since he already dead the sword will slumber)
You can tell a lot of those extra-detailed shots are rotoscoped (traced over the reference footage of real actors) but they're still really impressive, and the stylistic choice of using them for slice of life moment is fairly unique.
King Arthur is a legend and both the sword in the stone and the lady in the lake are from that legend. The entire story of King Arthur is based on Celtic mythology that predates Christianity in the British isles. Both versions of the origins of Excalibur exist in folklore. Depends on who's telling the myth.
The issue with Fern is she is engaging in projection to distance herself from her own inclinations. She's pushing onto Stark her own thoughts while he is entirely naive and oblivious.
8:17 Even though I've beaten it already, I find myself going back to Granblue Fantasy: Relink. It's how I'm hoping the type of gameplay become standard for RPGs going forward. However, Pokemon is also a great pick for an RPG, especially since it can be played so casually throughout the day. Then again, I'm pretty biased because Pokemon is just one of my favorite things in general.
Don't be the Hero the World wants you to be, Be the Hero the World Needs you to be. Frieren giving gifts like Eris. Yep. Frieren the Loot Goblin. Fern doth protest too much. Projecting are we? 🤪👉👌
I would appreciate life more without death to be honest. I don't need to lose my hands to appreciate them. Worrying I'll lose my hands or dealing with the loss of hands is only detrimental to enjoying life. Like when you stress over something and can't enjoy your hobbies. That's what death is to plenty of people. A source of stress. Not me personally, but the point stands. You would enjoy life way more if you didn't have to worry about it ending.
Lowkey disappointed with this reaction.. normally I enjoy Normies reaction but idk if it is cause u guys r watching this with so big gaps or that u constantly talk about other things and compare it to other shows, but compared to all reaction ive seen of episode 12 this is probably the tamest one. Which is kinda sad cause this episode is so well made. Not wanting to be rude, just giving some feedback.
To be fair like most they started off on long running shonen that sure as they watch they feel it drags but you spend so much time with the cast you get nostalgic and compare it to all new series. Like how they though hxh copied naruto. They are just not gonna love frieren as much with such high expectations as the best anime ever made when they come off stuff like berserk. Aot, hxh, one piece. Etc. still think they like it.

It's only fitting that they drew that face for Frieren, her VA also voices Anya Forger from SpyxFamily.
Which is still such an insane fact. The actress is incredibly talented to have that sort of range

Flamme was such a wise woman. What she taught Frieren about men applies even a thousand years later.
The fact that Himmel defeated the Demon King with a fake sword makes him even more of a hero
That's what Kaiki in the Monogatari series would say...

I think the point of the sword that it's not needed, because the Demon King was defeated and the sword wasn't required to do it.
That or there is a greater calamity waiting for them considering later on in the manga a certain demon has the ability there might be more danger than just the demon king
