The kente estate should be a money making business just like the big estates in Europe open their estates to the public for historical tours and souvenirs of the family. The movie ROOTS opened the pathway for the diaspora to search our roots back to Africa and made billions and is still making money from movies and books. This is a big deal. Wealthy African Americans including former president Barack Obama, should head a fundraiser to help open up this estate as a great cultural wonder in The Gambia. Its different here in Africa the colonizers make sure people living in Africa never remember the past and our educational system was totally colonize without any trace of slavery and past history,so many people in Africa don't even know our people are out of the continent against their wish and they make sure past resistance leaders are not captured in our history except you do your own research.

MAYA our African History is to be preserved, told and experienced through places and people in every country for every generation to grasp and get an understanding of who we are! It helps people to have a great sense of direction and pride of who you are. Why should Africa history be just a paragraph, or chapter in a book taught in schools. A child from 6 - 12 should experience that journey of their ancestry in their mind to make a lasting connection. It should also be connected with culture and community actives. The Guide is so passionate about history. You can feel the passion in his entire being. He seem to be carrying the weight of our heritage on him. It is heart breaking. We have an African saying were I am from that says "if you do not know where you are from! You won't know where you are going". That's why we have a generation of lost people. They can not perform productively because you do not know who you are and what you are made of.
God bless you for showing light on the importance of the preservation of AFRICAN HISTORY. #africatotheworld🌍

Wode Maya am really impress with your rapid personal growth, you've grown wiser more humble and witty. From the days I used to watch you and say this black guy is really naive. I use to say ur Africa to the world movement would be wake up call for u to the state of Africa and Africans, and it was a wake-up call, but for the better, this experience has made you a better person intellectually. Your more wiser and more witty on your surroundings and more humble to your history. I remember when u said you didn't wanna get involved with all the politics and history. Now you know that they are an integral part to the state we are in. You cannot talk about Africa without talking about the history that was and politics that's fucking us up now. But I salute your personal growth, I use to cringe when you didn't know how to behave around Candice. You lack etiquette a bit, but now your wiser humble and witty.

My question is ; what is the government doing with your tour guide ? This man have the qualities of holding a post in the government. Historically he is perfect, his English is one of the best, he is an intelligent man and can change the country if he is giving the chance. I think it's good for him to try in politics, he can change many things in the Gambia, his voice is powerful. God bless you and Maya for the good work.

A lot of monies made from books, a large amount should have been presented to the family and the upkeep of the compound/buildings. The Arab government should give monies to the family members too for their involvement in the slave trade - forced into bondage of this proud people. It's a shame after so much monies made by many and lacking in numerous ways. Now. I know why the Arab involvement was not mentioned but I'm doing so now. The Blessings of Hashem - Adoni pour down upon them with Holy Spirit, power and fire in the name of Yeshua

Yes! Kunta Kinte was a real person!
I’m trying to fight back the tears as I write this…..
I just received the results of my Ancestry DNA test today, and found out that Kunta Kinte is my 4th Great Grandfather.
I brought DNA kits for my husband and myself over 5 years ago and kept putting it off, because everyone was saying “Don’t do it! You don’t know what Ancestry will do with your saliva….DNA.”
We’ll, I’m going to be 75 this year! King Charles and I share the same birthday November 4th 1948…..so I felt like it was “Now or Never!” And, believe me…..I am sooooo glad and I’m sure that my family is so glad, too, that I followed through with the DNA test.
    Next Stop…..The Gambia! 🇬🇲
We have a whole lot of family members that I would love to meet, hug and kiss……before it’s too late.
Wow! Kunta Kinte, my 4th Great Grandfather! I Love It! 🧬

Not knowing exactly where my origins in Africa are, but still knowing we have unknown Kunta Kintes throughout western Africa who went through the same experiences as he did is emotional for me. We are all family. I pray this place is maintained and redeveloped for the family and for people visiting this historic place. Good job on this video.
