Just a recommendation - before jostling wires around and removing connections, get a wiring diagram and find the wire for the sending unit and backprobe it to make sure you're getting signal from the sending unit on both sides of the connector. When you move wires and connectors around, you can inadvertently fix the problems temporarily but will have a come back when it happens again. Electrical diag 101.
Can I find this on the mercury mountaineer 2004? I changed the fuel pump in the gas tank. But gas needle stay down. Check gage lights up! Sir I wait! I found it. Could that be it the problem?.
I changed my sending unit in the tank two years ago. Then two weeks ago it quit working. you know how much trouble it is to drop the tank on a F250 SD. By yourself lying in the gravel driveway. Yes, that's how I did it the last time too. Never thought I would have to do that again. Once was enough for anyone. I got tired of the low fuel alarm going off every five miles. So I bought A new sending unit and took the tank down again. when I took it apart the sending unit was s. like it was the day I put it in. But the float was gone. So I got my flashlight and found it floating in the tank. the whole side was broke out. Cheap Chinese two-dollar float on A $400.00 sending unit. Nothing you could pour into the tank could put the float back on.
@@RBTheMechanic my gauge said i had a little less than half a tank but my low fuel warning came on. Put 20 bucks in the tank. Now my gauge says 3?4 tank and the warning stopped.

Yeah these are trouble on fuel pumps
I have the same issue and had my fuel pump replaced 3 times, cleaned the wires and still, my gas gauge doesn't work. 😢

Look up a video to reset your gauges
If you cleaned it like that, perhaps putting in some dielectric grease would have been a good idea??
