I also have fine hair and I've experimented with so many different braids over the years to get waves but man, if only I knew I needed just one braid. Also, do you use any products when you braid your hair or is it just slightly wet?
micha mi Try a Setting Spray on your hair before you braid it. There’s a product called Pli by L’Oréal that you spritz onto damp hair and then you braid it or use curlers, and it’ll set the style. Here’s a link: rstyle.me/~cz-aO2SU

This is the best sleep in braid tutorial I’ve ever used, sometimes my hair is dry so I just spray it all over with some leave in and wait 10 minutes and put it in the same braid it works just as well if you don’t have freshly showered hair :)
I’m so excited I found this video. I don’t like going to bed with my hair in a bun. It either hurts or falls out. This is perfect. It’s actually really comfortable to sleep with!! I don’t have to worry about my face moisturizer getting my hair greasy AND I’ll have a natural wave in the A.M. I’m definitely going to start doing this every night on the days I wash my hair!
LOVE IT! So many tutorial s for curly hair out there these days but hardly any on wavy hair like this! I really feel left out with the curly hair method as I feel like it doesn't work with hair that literally can't decide wether to be straight or wavy and then ending up just a frizzy mess. This feels like it actually allows my hair to fall the way it is intended!
Try sleeping with your hair in a loose bun (with a scrunchie elastic instead of tight band) and getting a silky pillow case! The bun will keep it from getting knotted as easily without making your hair too flat, and the silky surface of the pillowcase will prevent your hair from breaking
Jasmine jojo it’s kind of like when you get layers except u don’t actually get the layers u just get the thinner hair if that makes any sense. I’m sorry I’m rlly bad at explaining things... if ur still confused ask like ur hairdresser or someone that would know 😐👍🏼

Thank you! I tried this last night. My hair looks wavy but not exactly like your waves. It still looks good. I think it's because my hair is thin and yours is mefium to thick. I didn't use any product. I sprayed my hair with wster to dampen it. I then made one large braid like yours and then a smaller braid for my long front bangs. I'm going to try it again with three braids -one for the front, the top and the middle/back.
I've been sleeping with a braid for years now, but ever since my hair got longer, I feel like it gets stuck underneath my back, creating tension on my neck when I turn around while I'm sleeping, and my neck started to hurt in the morning :/ do you have a similar problem and if you do, how do you sleep?? Absolutely amazing video, thank you for the products recommendation. The texturising spray is definitely being purchased first
You're adorable and have beautiful hair! My hair is your color naturally, but I decided I wanted a change, so now it's a bright vibrant red. I love the beachy waves look. I'm going to try your tutorial tonight. I don't have any of the products used, but I have other similar products I can use instead. Hope it will turn out as beautiful as yours.
I've got curly hair so I'm kinda wondering on how this would turn out. I feel that a bit wind or rain would just reinstate my curls but worth checking it out next time I've got a day off.
hm I have curly hair and cant imagine this being good for my hair because I think it would just make my roots very knotty and kink in a weird way... but I'll try it out tonight
Your waves look beautiful! I have really dry hair..I've tried so many products & have spent so much money its truly unbelieveable! I'm just not sure if this hair hack will work for me, but ya know what? I'm gonna try it!😊 Thank u for sharing this!
Martine Varrall Haha, you can still do it with shoulder length - if you can get up high enough plait what you can and then the lower ends that fall out you can plait separately x
Shonagh Scott legit just done exactly that lol but I’m at my bf’s so have nothing other than my leave in conditioning spray and and bit of oil for smoothing down the curls 😬 if it turns out crap then I’ll just chuck it up no biggie :-)
Gonna give this a try tonight! My hair has a bit of a wave, but it's usually nothing but frizz in the morning. Hoping this might help everything hold together a bit better!
my hair stylist is out of commission right now...so looking for new ways to get a gorgeous look on my own! Cant wait to see the results tomorrow morning. my hair is naturally wavy a bit so I hope this accentuates it! :D
I have naturally super thick and really wavy hair and it gets super fluffy so I usually braid it after I put a teeny tiny bit of coconut oil in it ( only because I’m at the beach almost every day and it gets so dry ) and I find that braiding my hair at night not only helps keep my hair protected from rubbing on my pillow but also helps flatten out my hair so it looks the perfect amount of volume in the morning and throughout the day!
If you’re able to go several days without washing your hair one time (like by covering it or just not caring what people think haha) it will not get greasy as fast after that. My hair takes several days to look greasy now but when I washed it every day it would look greasy if I missed one day
Oh wow!! that result is AMAZING i have to try!! My hair is similar to yours but is shorter will it still be fine to try?? it goes about 6-7cm below my shoulders so i can plait it but not that well. i am still gonna try but the reaults might not be the same!!
I love that you addressed the frizz around your face. Mine has gotten bad as I age. Your hair came out beautiful but I could never afford or even want to spend that much money on all of those products.
Anyone can use purple toning products to help with brassiness. It's basically just purple hair color, diluted with other products. I've used them on my hair when it was light brown just to help make it a pretty, ashier tone.
Hi, I’m a professional cosmetologists and you can use toning products for a lot of hair colors not just blonde. But if you do have blonde hair and you prefer it to be a cool tone (more blue than yellow) then I suggest using a purple shampoo and conditioner, you can pick up a variation from almost any beauty supply store that is open to the public.
Your hair looked great in waves it really suits you. I do the same thing except I do two pigtail plaits and my hair looks really wavy in the morn. I don't use any heat or dye on my hair so it's an easy way to get beach waves for me. Honestly the difference 2 yrs of no dye or hairdryer made is just shocking. I'm amazed! I'll never go back to using heat. My hair is so thick & long I don't have the patience or time for anything else. I'm loving the bungee ties too they're great for long thick hair. Thanks for the tips I'll definitely try the one plait next time great video 💋
garden heart That’s great to hear!! Heat free is most definitely the best way forward - IGK also have a product called ‘No Blow’ which is an aerosol can, you spray the product on to damp hair and air dries your hair up to something like 50% faster than without using it. Might be of interest to you since you don’t use heat!
Ha fun- I always thought my hair was just scraggly and that I should probably get Japanese straightening - but now I know it’s “beachy waves” and fashionable 💕
Doing this style is a great way to make your hair look thicker! Straight hair will always enhance fine hair, if you curl it or add a wave and some texturing volume spray like Beach Club it’ll appear thicker!
Shonagh Scott Thanks for your answer! But my hair is very straight und very thin and if I sleep with braided hair, the waves are too small and that make me look like a poodle 😅😔
Okay, in that case, take an old t-shirt and cut it to create a long strip, you can use this to wrap around the top of your ponytail before you start braiding, and you can use this as 1 of your 3 strands - so you're actually only parting your own hair into 2 strands (thus making each section thicker). Create a three strand braid as I have done here but incorporate the strip of t-shirt as your 3rd strand. This will allow you to still create waves but with thicker sections, so when you take it out your waves won't be half as tight or poodle-like, haha... works so well for fine hair.
Artsy Cupcake I understand where your coming from. My hair was soo so long. Then I decided to cut some off. (Just down to under the chest) I had withdrawals so bad but it’s way easier to wash and style!☺️
Saving this for when my lob grows out! I don’t know why it never occurred to me to just blow-dry only the frizzy bits and front and let the rest dry pretty much on its own. 🤣
THANK YOU! This works soooooooo well! Guys make sure your hair is like she says it should be, mostly dry. I did this when my hair was very wet (bc I took a shower) and in the morning my hair was still wet😂
Haha, yeah I’ve done that before, that’s how I know to make it about 80%-90% dry before braiding. Glad you found it worked for you! It’s such an easy look to just get up and go!
Your hair is GORGEOUS Shonagh I didn’t realize how long it was 😍 beautiful 🥰 when you recommended using the round brush with the blow dryer, I would like to mention one thing I’ve kinda learned over the years of ever changing beauty tools 🥴 if you do NOT have that regulator on the tip of your blow dryer I feel it does not work the same “hence” the word regulator to keep the air contained instead of just the giant hole blowing your hair all around 😩 in turn having to blow dry downward and doing several passes with the brush 🥵 that’s just MY opinion and experience with it.. I’ve never seen a leave in conditioner that sprays out 😲 that was SUPER convenient! I’ve only used/seen ones that are the thick balm you rub between your hands before going in with it or a spritz pump!! I loved the ponytail hack I’m DEFINITELY gonna start doing that to my daughters hair every night now 🥴 her hair is so thick and sooooooo long we have to brush it at night and I just put a three strand braid but at the lower nape of her neck so I’m trying your way see if she likes that better, this way the thick braid her hair makes she won’t have to lay directly on it so.. thanks for this tutorial you had some amazing tips!!! You ALWAYS do 😉😉😉😉
I do this braid every night on my long fine/thin hair before I go to sleep since years and it almost never let me down, great you share this method(:

I tried this last night for the first time (my hair is just below my shoulders) and my hair looks amazing never going back!! Ty!
Yay!! So pleased!
I tried it and it worked!!! I'm completely in love with it! Thank you so much 😁😭
Yay!!! Glad you LOVE IT! ♥️
CoffeeLover ARMY?
I need to try this once my hair gets longer. I love this hairstyle! So easy and effortless ✨
Andrea Kara Absolutely! If your hair is should length, try this one: ua-cam.com/video/mUGK-DIM0Ko/v-deo.html
Shonagh Scott Thank you for sharing that video! I’ll try that one!👍🏼
This is one of the best hair tutorial videos I have seen 😁 very informative and easy to follow - thanks!
Absolutely love this! The quality is so much better than I was expecting!
Great to hear, thanks Eleanor!
Your waves look beautiful! I have really dry hair..I've tried so many products & have spent so much money its truly unbelieveable! I'm just not sure if this hair hack will work for me, but ya know what? I'm gonna try it!😊 Thank u for sharing this!
Now I’m regretting cutting my hair short 🙈 lol x
Martine Varrall Haha, you can still do it with shoulder length - if you can get up high enough plait what you can and then the lower ends that fall out you can plait separately x
Shonagh Scott legit just done exactly that lol but I’m at my bf’s so have nothing other than my leave in conditioning spray and and bit of oil for smoothing down the curls 😬 if it turns out crap then I’ll just chuck it up no biggie :-)
@@ShonaghScott I will try this with my short hair tomorrow. Sounds quite easy:)
You can always try double Dutch braids or braid every strand of hair, that's what I did when I had short hair, now it's medium length
My hair went down to my hips and I cut it all off 😭
Okey her hair in day 3looks the same as mine in 30min. after i would let my hair out of the braid...
Girl your hair is so gorgeous!!! Can you do a tutorial on how you mantain such Lucious hair?!
Sadia Khan I already have one on my channel - just search ‘Shonagh Scott Hair Care’
@@ShonaghScott Thank you so much!!!
What she does to her hair won't be the same as yours as you have curly hair.
I loop my ends through the elastic so they have a slight curl and are not straight. Nice look!
I do that sometimes, but I quite like beachy finish the straight ends give.
I’ll be purchasing again very soon. I had zero issues with tangling. Great quality!
Great to hear!!!
Awesome! I support CF, so I gotta try IGK! I don't know why I've never thought of trying the braid starting on top of my head
Micki H They’re so incredible, I just love them. And yes, so simple haha!
I’ve been using this technique and it turns out beautiful! Thank you!
Wonderful to hear!!
My hair is too thick to do anything with so it’s always in a ponytail...I’m fine it doesn’t mess with me I don’t mess with it 😂
Mines too thick to get the hairband round more than twice and doesn't hold up at all in a ponytail.
Advice from this person with thick hair, just get layers. Trust me it will still be thick
@@adrienne306 Layers take some of the weight out and they look good. I need to get layers as I'm getting serious headaches from the weight.
@ Janine dear I can relate
My hair is too thick it won't stay in a freaking pony tail.... I wanna cut it off! Wanna trade hair??
Gonna give this a try tonight! My hair has a bit of a wave, but it's usually nothing but frizz in the morning. Hoping this might help everything hold together a bit better!
Yes, technically it should tame it a bit.
my hair stylist is out of commission right now...so looking for new ways to get a gorgeous look on my own! Cant wait to see the results tomorrow morning. my hair is naturally wavy a bit so I hope this accentuates it! :D
okay but are we not going to talk about how perfect her is hair is !? 😍😍 it’s literally instagram goals 🤩
Niveah Johnson 😍 Thank you!
Where did you get the hair tie from??? Make the perfect high pony tail 😍😍
eBay! 😁
Shonagh Scott how’d you look for it I can’t find it anywhere??
Very lovely beachy hair 🌸💕🌸💕
I have naturally super thick and really wavy hair and it gets super fluffy so I usually braid it after I put a teeny tiny bit of coconut oil in it ( only because I’m at the beach almost every day and it gets so dry ) and I find that braiding my hair at night not only helps keep my hair protected from rubbing on my pillow but also helps flatten out my hair so it looks the perfect amount of volume in the morning and throughout the day!
That’s the prettiest ponytail I’ve ever seen
Thank you!
Your hair is incredible!! So jealous right now
Mary p Haha, thank you so much!
On day 3 my hair would look like I’ve put my head in a chip pan😂
samee 😂😂😂😂
LMFAO
Exactly 😂
If you’re able to go several days without washing your hair one time (like by covering it or just not caring what people think haha) it will not get greasy as fast after that. My hair takes several days to look greasy now but when I washed it every day it would look greasy if I missed one day
🤣🤣🤣
This works so well! I am going to do this every time I wash my hair☺️☺️☺️☺️
Oh wow!! that result is AMAZING i have to try!!
Wish I could get my hair like this! Never goes to plan x
Oh i just got a whiff of coconut watching this lol very nice lol
Clairelouise Mason It’s divine!!!
With the blonde drops, is it only for dyed hair or can you use it on natural blondes?
Anyone can use purple toning products to help with brassiness. It's basically just purple hair color, diluted with other products. I've used them on my hair when it was light brown just to help make it a pretty, ashier tone.
Choco Pepp what is brassiness?
@@isame0085 when you have orange or yellow tones in your hair 😊
Hi, I’m a professional cosmetologists and you can use toning products for a lot of hair colors not just blonde. But if you do have blonde hair and you prefer it to be a cool tone (more blue than yellow) then I suggest using a purple shampoo and conditioner, you can pick up a variation from almost any beauty supply store that is open to the public.
@@isame0085 warmer yellow or orange tones in your hair.
The quality is great for the price and it blended perfectly with my natural hair👍
Adellina Pangia my hair naturally has beachy waves
Thank you that's perfect! Going to try this tonight.
Selina Meghan Ooh let me know how you get on!
Selina Meghan what happened?
@@mpivk7014 Looks really good. Just did damp hair and plait as didn't have the hair products in the video. Comfy to sleep in too!
Your hair looks so gorgeous thick! My hair is so thin I look like a poodle :(
Doing this style is a great way to make your hair look thicker!
@@ShonaghScott that is so genius when my hair grows back out I have to try this!
Shonagh Scott Thank you very much, I will try it! Greetings from Germany
Ohh I love this look! My hair is long and I keep going back and forth on if I should chop it, then I see something like this and I back out!
Artsy Cupcake I understand where your coming from. My hair was soo so long. Then I decided to cut some off. (Just down to under the chest) I had withdrawals so bad but it’s way easier to wash and style!☺️
Followed this tutorial last night! My hair looked awesome! Going to recommend on Twit and FB
Yay!!! Glad to hear it you loved it!
Saving this for when my lob grows out!
I don’t know why it never occurred to me to just blow-dry only the frizzy bits and front and let the rest dry pretty much on its own. 🤣
That looks beautiful, but my hair is wayyyyyyy too thick! I do this occasionally, but I do 4-8 braids!
I just saw this channel! If she is a hairdresser, who else would love for her to do your hair?
Haha, I’m not a hairdresser but thank you!
@@ShonaghScott well I would love you anyway to be my hairdresser. Your voice is so soothing! 🥰❤💖
I’ve been doing this for two weeks now and get complements thank u for this!!
YAY! So pleased to hear this Alli! 🤩
what if u braided it to far up on ur head will it still come out the same? just wondering great video❤️❤️
Omg! My hair is thin and wavy/frizzy and this is literally going to be perfect for me!
Wow! I am so trying this! Thank you for also showing days 2 and 3. I was my hair twice a week, so this is helpful ;)
You are PHENOMENAL at hair! Thank you for this 😊🥰
You’re most welcome, Ellie! And thank you 😊🙌🏼
Your hair is GORGEOUS Shonagh I didn’t realize how long it was 😍 beautiful 🥰 when you recommended using the round brush with the blow dryer, I would like to mention one thing I’ve kinda learned over the years of ever changing beauty tools 🥴 if you do NOT have that regulator on the tip of your blow dryer I feel it does not work the same “hence” the word regulator to keep the air contained instead of just the giant hole blowing your hair all around 😩 in turn having to blow dry downward and doing several passes with the brush 🥵 that’s just MY opinion and experience with it..
