I understand how this isn’t the Easy Allies podcast, but watching these 8 debate with so much love and respect is such a joy to watch, especially after seeing other internet figures try and one up each other at every opportunity. Well done!
Afaik that was one of the main criticisms of last year's two 10s - a lot of people thought it felt too aggressive, almost hostile sometimes. It's a show about getting better after all, and they definitely did :)
Just want to give a shout out to Janet, because I know the comments were giving her a hard time last year (and often this year). She gushed about Horizon earlier in the year, and as someone who had a great time with that game, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it won’t be totally forgotten.
She’s great. Unfortunately she’ll always get the most hate because of the one difference she has compared to the rest of the group but keep showing her love.
I'm very surprised to see the omissions for my number #1 dumbest thing of 2022, the whole Bayonetta 3 VA Pay fiasco. It just dragged everyone down and we all came away a little stupider.
Was worried 8 people at the same time would lead to a hard-to-listen-to podcast, but its amazing how you guys almost didn't talk over each other at all. Great show.
343 ditching split-screen co-op followed by the community, just days later, essentially finishing it for them is absolutely hilarious and my favorite Dumbest Moment this year. Great show as always guys.
Just like last year when defending returnal, Kyle eloquently put why, for me, Freya is one of the best characters this year. Thank you sir! Always a joy to hear you talk with such insights on art ^_^
I was kind of laughing at the Star Wars podcast bit, good naturedly mind you but laughing. Then I stopped to think about it; I listen to podcasts literally every single day as I walk to and from work, the store, doing dishes, literally anything where it fits in. All year these were the best things I listened to. Not just good stuff but something I genuinely had to make extra time for and then looked forward to after I'd caught up to where they'd recorded. One of the best pieces of entertainment of the year for me.
This is such a fantastic way to recap the year. Thank you everyone for putting this together! I love this format, it really brings classic podcast energy! Some extra personal thoughts! I'm shocked Noah or Mio didn't come up for best Character. Eunie is great and does have an excellent arc, but Noah/Mio's relationship goes places that very few JRPGS nails as well as XC3 does without being super corny or overly trite. Also for a "best moment" - Discovering and solving the Golden Path from Tunic! That's got to be up there with one of my favorite puzzles in games of all time!
So glad to hear Kelsey fight for XC3 for best moment. That part of the game resonated with me more than any game has in probably a decade. It's nice to see it represented by my favorite outlet.
I legitimately got chills just hearing her describe some of those beats. It's the kind of moment that just makes me desperately wish that everyone else could've seen it and enjoyed it. XC3 has a lot of great moments, and in any other games I'd say that some beats near the beginning and end should've been nominated, but the end of chapter five is /maybe/ the best moment I've ever seen in a JRPG. Just an astonishing collision of art direction, character work, music, and worldbuilding. None of those would work if any of them were off and the fact that they were all aligned was just incredible.
For everyone I spoke to about The One, each person had a different interpretation of her. Also, yes Charlotta Mohlin KILLED that role. That character is the only one that brought me to tears this year and it happened MULTIPLE times. Best character, not of video games, but of all media I consumed this year.
I love that upon watching TGA I only saw Marissa's actress in the crowd but after seeing some reaction videos I noticed Charlotta sitting next to her, SO FITTING LMAO!
RE: steam deck You guys are INSANE for not taking it seriously. I'm so glad you mentioned the "A More Civilized Age" Podcast, because now I know what I'll be listening to in the background at work for the next week. I might even have to re-watch Andor again
I love that Best Moment's Minn pertains the execution of a character 🤣 Also Kelsey did an outstanding job summing up the events of Chapter 5 in so little time, I just wish she namedropped Shania because she's the reason this all went down and arguably she's the best villain in the game.
Love this type of awards discussion and categories: I would add Beta from Horizon as best character nominee and the Golden Path from Tunic as best moment winner but great list!
Glad to hear Mitski mentioned in this podcast! Been obsessed with "laurel hell" as well as Jockstrap's (don't laugh at the name, lol) "i love you jennifer b" album...

@@beatendownbrian Well kinda bummed they ignored the first as well then. The games have been lauded as being good and yet not one of them felt the need to play it/finish it, bit lame to hear.
@@everettvonscott I hear ya. I think a lot of industry people slept on the first one tbh. 2019 was a pretty stacked year, and it's just that old problem of not everyone can play everything.

59:25 While the PS Stars program needs improvement (should be able to access outside of mobile app, sharing trophy case with friends), the things you have to do are not specific. Three campaigns this month only required you to play any PS4 or PS5 game. They are not asking you to start up Street Fighter 5 and use Ryu's Hadoken or Shoryuken ten times. Usually it involves starting a game that is on the PS+ Extra tier catalog or buying a game they have picked for their monthly PS Picks list.
Praying for some talk about games, the two GOTY podcasts I've listened to this year had way too much "what more can be said" when thats usually my favorite part of GOTY, hearing everyones thoughts on every game top to bottom

Sarah seemed so disinterested in the whole show. Like she had other things she wanted to do etc. I like her a lot. One of my favs but something was off here for sure. The rest of the gang were on point though. Even Leo who obviously had no interest in much of what was discussed was upbeat and involved. Great discussion as always. Love the positive vibes of Minnmax compared to other outlets.
3:14:20 Alright, so @ the Xenoblade 3 spoiler thing, I'm listening to this explanation right now and I think I have to clarify something extremely critical, just to portray it in the way that the game portrayed it to the player, but in writing--this time: -----spoilers------ The LEAD-UP to the Death is what makes that entire series of events in Chapter 5, because the player only knows that it's their (read: the Protagonist) Partner from the starting conflict point of the game that they are going to watch the Primary protagonist (1st lead?) see die in front of him, the same Partner that's been through the entire journey with them, the same Partner that the Protagonist saw them 1st accept that they're going to die soon, 2nd see them start getting irritated on how long the journey is taking to see the mysterious land that's gonna give them all the answers, 3rd see them GET to the point that they LOSE it and yell out that they essentially do not want to die before getting to that place--just because the protagonist is acting so chill and sure of himself that all these detours they are taking--instead of B-lining to the mysterious area ("city")--will not end up as a complete waste of time, and 4th go into this emotional and honest speech of how that she has had so much time to reflect on her journey, so much time to reflect on all the people she seen die, so much time to reflect on her situation, and at the end of all that; she feels so grateful to the 1st Lead for having been able to spend all this time with them and wants them to know that it has been a great ride just to be able to be with them for these final moments. All that last part is inside the prison where main character has been shown PUNCHING THE WALL, MULTIPLE TIMES, EVERY DAY just trying and trying to find a way out, and emotionally failing time and time again--going through the stages of emotional disbelief, refusing to except the situation at hand and that they can not do anything about it, all with the ever looming pressure that the Eclipse will be here, and that once the 1st Lead's Love interest dies while in the eclipse, the love interest will be DEAD--DEAD, no coming back! And once that happens, the main character is whisked away into his mind, and this MASSIVE LORE DUMP of events of this character's previous lives and how he has lived them, and how each of his iterations he has always naturally been able to come together and fall in mutual understanding and love with the love interest, always has tried and failed to defeat the main evil of the world with his love interest, then tried to escape the evils of the world with his love interest--betraying his friends (including Uni and Lanz), finally finding a moment where he could live with his love interests away from the world--and even have a baby, and always being absolutely devastated seeing his love interest die, leading to him--the 1st Lead--discovering WHY his other version of himself made the impossible choice. All this culminating with the 1st lead being asked why he continues and continues to try and try despite all of that devastating emotional baggage in every reincarnation (mind you, no one ever remembers their pasts lives in this game, without precise external pressure), to which then WE GET THE REVEAL of WHY this one character that we only see GLIMPSES of throughout the game at this point, MEANT SO MUCH to the 1st lead, and how because of that Character's Suicide, the Main Character is so determined on his perspective of death and dying. It is an ABSALUTE tragedy that you guys will now never experience that at its full and unexpected emotional level, if there was any chance of the stars aligning and you guys being able to get invested so much to the point it would hit you like that... man, I kinda just want to buy patreon--if only this once--to have the chance to read allowed all this in a Party chat haha! Honestly, the reveal that it's not actually the protagonist's love interest ruins all of it, and only solidifies this game's turn to full unnecessarily anime after Chapter 5. Mind you, I was still invested in the game, but man--did I just have this constant irritation of this game proving over and over again it's not willing to fully commit while it matters. Also, I appreciate that, unlike Weird West, this game doesn't go all edgy and obtusely obese on painting forever as this thing no one should ever want in any scenario. edit: I'm now recording my voice reading this, just to capture the initial emotional investment I was having while writing this and shouting at the screen lol, i'm too into this.
I would like to nominate the amazing Switch port of Nier:Automata as the best thing in 2022! I mean I love that game but the nomination is for the fact that they made this jaw-dropping, impossible port on the Switch possible.
58:52 PS+ tiers are not complicated. It is literally the same as original PS+ but with one tier that adds one game catalog and the highest tier adds a classic catalogue plus more. The 3 tiers are not more complicated than the many Patreons with 5+ tiers or Xbox's 4 or 5 different services (depending on if you count GP PC and GP console as separate).
I agree it's not more complicated than Game Pass and other services, but I will say how they decide what goes in the Premium vs. Extra tier is pretty weird.
@@burnout713 Yeah. I totally get that. I think it happened with the Yakuza games where they put a remastered version of 3, 4, & 5 in the Premium tier after putting Kiwami 1 & 2 (a remake of Yakuza 1 & 2) in the Extra tier. Not sure how many times stuff like that happens though.
Just wanted to say that I love listening to these, not only for the discussion but for putting in the extra effort with spoilers! Honestly something I wish every gaming podcast did during their GOTY podcasts. Makes it much more enjoyable to listen to. also RRR was robbed, sorry not sorry :p
@@MysteriousMrL Yeah Zorayas was great. I felt like she was popular but I wonder if Elden Ring characters are overlooked sometimes because some people can entirely miss them. Most of them are technically optional
I agree that Sarah's swearing tirade during the gingerbread construction stream was the greatest work of all time of 2022, but you have to start with the Christmas Capitalism speech that directly preceded it to capture the full glory of the moment. ua-cam.com/video/n8JyUuiwQkI/v-deo.html
3:07:30 elden ring spoiler ahead The dragon you are talking about was not defenseless you were just out of its range and in range to cheese it.The dragon is the mother of the dragons around it and you were suppose to go up to its face then you would alert it of your presence, it would proceed to roar and awaken its kids then you would have to fight multiple dragons at once and each dragon kill would lower the mothers health until it dies. Ranni is best wife because she straight up gives you THE FROMSOFT BRAND SWORD which is the moon light greatsword which has been renamed to the darkmoon greatsword
OMG so I was listening to this and I didn't see the screen, so I was trying to look up the game essays you were talking about but I kept searching "Zachari explains" because all I could hear was the z not the s. and of course that did not give me any helpful information. but eventually I was able to actually see what you guys had on the screen here on UA-cam and I see that it's a totally different name. Still having trouble I transfer finding the actual channel on UA-cam though. Is it game explains?

The LEAD-UP to the Death is what makes that entire series of events in Chapter 5, because the player only knows that it's their (read: the Protagonist) Partner from the starting conflict point of the game that they are going to watch the Primary protagonist (1st lead?) see die in front of him, the same Partner that's been through the entire journey with them, the same Partner that the Protagonist saw them 1st accept that they're going to die soon, 2nd see them start getting irritated on how long the journey is taking to see the mysterious land that's gonna give them all the answers, 3rd see them GET to the point that they LOSE it and yell out that they essentially do not want to die before getting to that place--just because the protagonist is acting so chill and sure of himself that all these detours they are taking--instead of B-lining to the mysterious area ("city")--will not end up as a complete waste of time, and 4th go into this emotional and honest speech of how that she has had so much time to reflect on her journey, so much time to reflect on all the people she seen die, so much time to reflect on her situation, and at the end of all that; she feels so grateful to the 1st Lead for having been able to spend all this time with them and wants them to know that it has been a great ride just to be able to be with them for these final moments.
Also, I appreciate that, unlike Weird West, this game doesn't go all edgy and obtusely obese on painting forever as this thing no one should ever want in any scenario.
edit:
I'm now recording my voice reading this, just to capture the initial emotional investment I was having while writing this and shouting at the screen lol, i'm too into this.
Lol. Almost everyone left when Ben doing the ads section!!!
I would like to nominate the amazing Switch port of Nier:Automata as the best thing in 2022! I mean I love that game but the nomination is for the fact that they made this jaw-dropping, impossible port on the Switch possible.

PS+ tiers are not complicated.
Now I have something to do for the next 4 hours of my life
Enjoooooy!
Can someone post the 'my way' link? I can't really find the right one
Ranni is the best character from Elden Ring. Also people really like Blaidd
Zorayas and Boc were my faves. I think Elden Ring is kind of weirdly overlooked in the character category.
@@MysteriousMrL Yeah Zorayas was great. I felt like she was popular but I wonder if Elden Ring characters are overlooked sometimes because some people can entirely miss them. Most of them are technically optional
Tough battle between Blaidd and Radahn for me. Maliketh and Morgott are also in the discussion. But Ranni's great, too.
3:07:30 elden ring spoiler ahead
The dragon you are talking about was not defenseless you were just out of its range and in range to cheese it.The dragon is the mother of the dragons around it and you were suppose to go up to its face then you would alert it of your presence, it would proceed to roar and awaken its kids then you would have to fight multiple dragons at once and each dragon kill would lower the mothers health until it dies.
