    I picked a Martin Marque when I was a lad. I tried to learn to play. Moms payed for lessons I played when I was interested. I put that old guitar down over 20 years now. There were bad memories attached to music for me. Today I am picking up the pieces and a new guitar and I want you to know I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos. Im a tired old rock hound that is very impressed with you. cheers

      I'm in the same situation, 15 years ago I thought I couldn't do music, didn't have enough rhythm and other bullshit excuses. last May there was a community garage sale and I decided to pick up a shitty 50 € used imitation strat just to fuck around with. Now, ten months later, I've found a new passion and learned to never limit myself again. My friend is an amazing improv pianist and I played with him a couple months ago and he reassured me that I do , in fact, have great rhythm, despite only knowing 2 scale shapes.
      UA-cam has been the greatest resource in my newfound love of guitar, and I really wish that it existed 15 years ago when I first tried. Shit, if it did, I'm pretty sure I would be around 8000 hours playtime (not unreasonably far from the 10k hour rule).
      Keep on rocking man.

    Thanks, for your style of teaching. Very easy to understand. Start me off slow so I can rewind and then graduly get faster step by step. I can almost catch up with you.
    I'v been banging on guitars for 50 years and can't read music, so this kind of stuff really helps.

    I wish teachers would come up with a standardized system of identifying the notes when teaching on UA-cam. "Place your first finger on the 5th fret on the D string and then your third finger on the 7th"....that is so awkward and time consuming and half the time there are long pauses while you think about what you're trying to say. How about something like "place finger one on D5 and then finger three on D7, bend up a whole step and then finger one on E5...." It would really make learning easier and you could even call out the actual notes after you've identified the fret. Just a thought. Nice lesson. I really learned a few good licks to use.

      @oscarnotyourbuissines6027 10 років тому

      They could say play a G on the thick E string... that's really the only ways... It's easy to learn... Also when you get better at guitar you won't need to worry about that because you can just hear and see what they play

    From my experience…you tube lessons can inspire me or frustrate me, or both! The comments entertain me! I picked up the guitar late in life, I travel for work and the guitar comes with me, so far I have worked through the frustration to some small success. It was fun to come back to this video and enjoy it and use it for inspiration, and see how far I had come! Thank you

  • @Frasi10

    Its an A minor pentatonic scale (or a C major scale), very easy to learn, but you can do infinite blues solos with it.Once you have got the scale down, the limit of what you can play is just in your soul.

    @MeTaluvR69 The thing is, that I am not so great and would like to see some picking videos how to practice my pick (right) hand.. I did not ment to be rude or anything, just hoping that there would be more picking lessons online :o

  • @dimepag
    @dimepag 12 років тому

    Good video. You forgot only the most important part of playing, the pick hand and how do you pick your strings when you speed up. That is the most important thing. Make a video of your picking technique and when to change up/down and when to sweep.

  • @Damaged262
    @Damaged262 11 років тому

    Much like tam oquinn mentions, have it looked at, you can adjust the bow yourself, but being new, I wouldn't recommend it. Or it could be a bad fret, intonation, ect, especially if it's used or an import where it can be hit or miss. I got lucky with my Epi LPJ, it was perfect out of the box, but the guitar I got before that (35 years ago, so I consider myself a newbie all over again) was a wreck, tried to fix it myself and almost broke it. Spend a few bucks and get it fixed right. Good luck.

  • @tamoquinn7544
    @tamoquinn7544 12 років тому

    you'r guitar is not set up right there are diffrent thing's it can be the neck of the guitar has a bow in it that can be ajusted by the truss rod it can be a high fret or you'r strings can be to low and need to be raised you'r string's should be 5\64th's from the top of the fret to the bottom of the string i would check that first or take it to you'r local guitar store and get it set up they charge about $45. dollars

  • @tamoquinn7544
    @tamoquinn7544 12 років тому

    It is great that you are helping people but you'r guitar sounds like crap. You have string buzz it is not set up right and you'r amp sounds like a mosquito. when you hit a note on the fret board you should not here any buzz at all none.no mater how well you play you are killing the music with a bad sound.I am only trying to help you'r sound the same as you are trying to help lern to play.

  • @Naterz100
    @Naterz100 12 років тому

    You sorta pick up on that as you go along, I am looking for good videos to help a friend who is starting out when I cannot stop buy to work with him myself (jobs get in the way you know) and this is one of those, most important thing about a pick is hit the strings and hold it right. you sorta will figure out when you need to pick up or down or both as you go

    Either the neck like the other guy said or you arent pressing hard enough on the strings. After a few months the tips of your fingers harden up and it is much easier to get a clean fretting sound..

    it doesnt really help a beginner (like me) if someones plays a lick without explaining HOW TO USE IT (Grrr) i mean, it makes no difference (to MEEE) if u show me 3 licks or 103 licks if i cant fit them into a progression? and that right ther would define a teacher... but thanks for trying. guess i'm jst too dumb for these licks :)

      Fred Scott
      *SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!*
      At this point in you're miserable spineless worm nowhere existence, the smartest favor you can do for yourself is:
      1. *SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!*
      2. Don't ask stupid questions.
      3. Consider all your questions stupid and you'll be fine.
      4. Do what you're told. Eventually, if you possess the slightest amount of common sense in your hummingbird brain, you will answer your own stupid questions.
      5. Guitar is not for everyone. Find something else you can do really well. (just in case.)
      6. Eat your veggies. They're good for you.
      You can thank me later.
