I picked a Martin Marque when I was a lad. I tried to learn to play. Moms payed for lessons I played when I was interested. I put that old guitar down over 20 years now. There were bad memories attached to music for me. Today I am picking up the pieces and a new guitar and I want you to know I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos. Im a tired old rock hound that is very impressed with you. cheers
I'm in the same situation, 15 years ago I thought I couldn't do music, didn't have enough rhythm and other bullshit excuses. last May there was a community garage sale and I decided to pick up a shitty 50 € used imitation strat just to fuck around with. Now, ten months later, I've found a new passion and learned to never limit myself again. My friend is an amazing improv pianist and I played with him a couple months ago and he reassured me that I do , in fact, have great rhythm, despite only knowing 2 scale shapes. UA-cam has been the greatest resource in my newfound love of guitar, and I really wish that it existed 15 years ago when I first tried. Shit, if it did, I'm pretty sure I would be around 8000 hours playtime (not unreasonably far from the 10k hour rule). Keep on rocking man.
I started and discovered guitar at age 61, 2 years ago.now I can play and sing.i have 2 guitars,1 in car,1 in my saloon.so I play whenever I get some free time .Dr V.Imrith from Mauritius.now learning blues
Thanks, for your style of teaching. Very easy to understand. Start me off slow so I can rewind and then graduly get faster step by step. I can almost catch up with you. I'v been banging on guitars for 50 years and can't read music, so this kind of stuff really helps.
I wish teachers would come up with a standardized system of identifying the notes when teaching on UA-cam. "Place your first finger on the 5th fret on the D string and then your third finger on the 7th"....that is so awkward and time consuming and half the time there are long pauses while you think about what you're trying to say. How about something like "place finger one on D5 and then finger three on D7, bend up a whole step and then finger one on E5...." It would really make learning easier and you could even call out the actual notes after you've identified the fret. Just a thought. Nice lesson. I really learned a few good licks to use.
They could say play a G on the thick E string... that's really the only ways... It's easy to learn... Also when you get better at guitar you won't need to worry about that because you can just hear and see what they play
From my experience…you tube lessons can inspire me or frustrate me, or both! The comments entertain me! I picked up the guitar late in life, I travel for work and the guitar comes with me, so far I have worked through the frustration to some small success. It was fun to come back to this video and enjoy it and use it for inspiration, and see how far I had come! Thank you
Its an A minor pentatonic scale (or a C major scale), very easy to learn, but you can do infinite blues solos with it.Once you have got the scale down, the limit of what you can play is just in your soul.
hey new guitarist. dont forget where you came from, like some of the people in the comments. most are just pissed this video has more views than the tracks they put on years ago. if you take away anything positive from any video while you are learning, you're on the right track!! ive been playing guitar 15 years and learned a new way of looking at my boxes from this video. 🎶
@MeTaluvR69 The thing is, that I am not so great and would like to see some picking videos how to practice my pick (right) hand.. I did not ment to be rude or anything, just hoping that there would be more picking lessons online :o
Good video. You forgot only the most important part of playing, the pick hand and how do you pick your strings when you speed up. That is the most important thing. Make a video of your picking technique and when to change up/down and when to sweep.
Much like tam oquinn mentions, have it looked at, you can adjust the bow yourself, but being new, I wouldn't recommend it. Or it could be a bad fret, intonation, ect, especially if it's used or an import where it can be hit or miss. I got lucky with my Epi LPJ, it was perfect out of the box, but the guitar I got before that (35 years ago, so I consider myself a newbie all over again) was a wreck, tried to fix it myself and almost broke it. Spend a few bucks and get it fixed right. Good luck.
you'r guitar is not set up right there are diffrent thing's it can be the neck of the guitar has a bow in it that can be ajusted by the truss rod it can be a high fret or you'r strings can be to low and need to be raised you'r string's should be 5\64th's from the top of the fret to the bottom of the string i would check that first or take it to you'r local guitar store and get it set up they charge about $45. dollars
It is great that you are helping people but you'r guitar sounds like crap. You have string buzz it is not set up right and you'r amp sounds like a mosquito. when you hit a note on the fret board you should not here any buzz at all none.no mater how well you play you are killing the music with a bad sound.I am only trying to help you'r sound the same as you are trying to help lern to play.
You sorta pick up on that as you go along, I am looking for good videos to help a friend who is starting out when I cannot stop buy to work with him myself (jobs get in the way you know) and this is one of those, most important thing about a pick is hit the strings and hold it right. you sorta will figure out when you need to pick up or down or both as you go
Either the neck like the other guy said or you arent pressing hard enough on the strings. After a few months the tips of your fingers harden up and it is much easier to get a clean fretting sound..
I read 13 comments. Not one tribute to the late GREAT CHUCK BERRY. That’s all in JohnnyBGood my friends. Keep rocking & rolling. Just remember we’re your roots are. I think this whole pentatonic ideal is way over rated. It’s rock & roll. The baby from the Blues. Thanks for sharing. MYF
it doesnt really help a beginner (like me) if someones plays a lick without explaining HOW TO USE IT (Grrr) i mean, it makes no difference (to MEEE) if u show me 3 licks or 103 licks if i cant fit them into a progression? and that right ther would define a teacher... but thanks for trying. guess i'm jst too dumb for these licks :)
Try not to listen to all these self appointed authorities in here commenting! At least you posted a video that shows beginners a few licks! More than they’re doing! There’s always somebody bitching or complaining about how it should have been done! Your video is just fine thanks again!

Man, this is so helpful. Every video lesson I watch confuses me with the fingering patterns but this one is very clear. Thank you!
Hi Racs, happy to hear that buddy. Have a good one! 😉👊
Thank you. I like the fact that you slowed down and walked us through each lick. You are definitely one of my favorite guitar instructors on UA-cam.
this is by far the best tutorial, i've come across . Please do post more! Thank you.

Isaac Torres How did you come to that conclusion?
theres nothing wrong with it at all. if its confusing you, you aint ready.
good idea.
Ah! this brings back memories. : ) First scale I ever learned on guitar. Then I forgot them all. :P
Damn.. look at the action on that baby, I need a new guitar.

I like it, simple but so beneficial. Thank you I enjoyed your teachings.
on my computer, the video lagged behind the audio so bad it was impossible to follow. yeah, tone wasn't that great either. oh well.
Where do you think rock came from? Rock is basically blues with destortion and fast blues licks and scaling up the neck aka:shredding
Good question. I've always wondered that too. But I guess it does'nt matter cause I never use the straight five tone scale anyway.
Cheers, W. Johnson
Yo one of my string make a kind of «bzzzz» and im a beginner... Why the fuck does it make this li'l annoying sound?? And how can i fix it?
Do you know Rock, Metal, Jazz etc all came from Blues? Blues is their base. Learn the basic music before you talk shit.
Ik hoor dat je een Nederlander bent :D Super bedankt voor je handige filmpjes.
Gr uit Groningen
i know that scale. Jimmy Page used it in the solo to Stairway To Heaven, Which i happen to be learning.
UA-cam video. sennstrato, lead guitar ,funky
on classical guitar american woman ...give it a listen ...via metal softsare
Very basic but very helpful. Guitar sounds fine too me:-)
what amp are you using? because it sounds good even in this poor quality video
Maybe because its a shape. You have 5 shapes. But its important to know the root for the scale.
Very good instructional vid for beginner guitarist like me.
Wish I could see the original comment, but I can imagine about 3 that are the most common.
Great lesson, thanks for the licks, something to work on for us beginner soloist.
I got the ugly furniture and the guitar...where do I get the 9-inch-long fingers?
The way u taught is so easy to understand. That's the way teacher should be.
Three fine licks, thanks for posting.
Dude that was awesome. thank you. I learn alot.👍
What pentatonic scale is it? I just started 2day to learn some scales
Nice lesson...except that's an A- pentatonic...Not an A pentatonic.
I don't know much, but I know that's the A minor pentatonic scale.
thanks for a clear and concice vid. easy to follow and use
cheers
Almost all Rock licks are based on the Blues Scale MarkoBlood...
A toprated comment that is so useful. What is this trickery?
