I wish there were more interviews and rehearsal footage of Mr. Vickers.

Indeed, at least the sources would be much appreciated.

Why does the presenter continue talking while Vickers is singing and speaking? If you are offering an homage to a great singer and you have much film footage of that singer performing, should you not shut the hell up for a while and let the singer SING?

We didn't get anything like this in the States-imagine anything about an opera singer here? I saw him in some of his greatest roles, and followed him for over 40 yrs. but have never seen some of this footage. Also some references to his illness-that he remembered the words etc. interesting to know more about it-but no info on any of that out there

Jon Vickers seemed to have a good physique in those early years, like an athlete. I don't think the very early footage captures his voice in that hugeness people remember about him. He called Roberta Knie when I was there at her Philadelphia home singing Rienzi,'s aria; I had admired him so much having been introduced to his Radames via the Solti Aida recording with Leontyne Price. I was about 16 or 17. Roberta said that he had Alzheimers so he wouldn't be able to talk to me, apparently they were quite close. He was such an admired tenor and I was sad to hear of his illness. She spoke of a few things, including when he slapped her at a rehearsal. They are water people, Pisces/Scorpio where emotions flow like tides, speaking of volatile. It seemed extreme how she explained it, but they obviously loved each other. RIP Jon Vickers.

Kendrick Jacocks I remember that recording with Price. He really takes the opportunity to vary those two Bflats in Celeste Aida, the first time full chested heroic, the second starting with that freaky beautiful head voice and expanding slightly to chest as it continues. Got to see him live at the Paris Opera in Otello. He was one of those people who could literally shake your body with sound waves.
