- Here’s my map of Berserk! Enjoy!
Apologies for the ridiculous scale of Skellig and it’s neighbouring landmass when compared to the main continent. Some oversights and lack of knowledge about archipelago’s, duchies and principalities are fairly abundant throughout. My apologies, but the general layout remains what I think the world resembles. Let me know what you think below and subscribe for more!

Resurrection of Kentaro Miura. I don't care if is only a joke, I need it
😭
@@mateo_magic
Sorry friendo
The April fools video ironically has nothing to do with Miura whatsoever. Though it does still have to do with Berserk
@@alexenterprises1 will the thumbnail be "i got cucked by a dark falcon"?
Either Vinland Saga or Tokyo Ghoul... those are my guesses
@@marvelous_jack5228 :/
as someone whos made a map of midland before, you nailed it.
Awesome!! So glad to hear it!
That was so interesting! Amazing Berserk content is always appreciated.
Since you brought it up, everyone should read The Dark Tower. It's as unique and character driven in the realm of dark fantasy as Berserk.
I'm going to get the first book really soon I heard its great
@@matthewoconnor3708 It is. But very different from the rest of the series. I'd call it a fever dream prologue meant to get you interested in the premise and world.
@@TheTrueRandomGamer sounds good to me
I know this is old comment, but stephen' king's dark tower and kentaro miura's berserk are the one who inspired me to make a dark fantasy manga about multiverse and Cosmic entities.
Berserk was the catalyst for all the dark medival fantasy stories that would proceed it. Dark Souls was literally inspired by Berserk in its look and feel.
I'm always wondering whether Tudor is east or west of midland.
Aka: which one is "France" and which one is "the HRE":
Shouldn't the Kushan empire be closer to Midland than to Tudor (to invade it by land)?
That would place Midland around Austria / the HRE, with Tudor as France further to the west
Your last point is extremely pertinent, there could, and maybe should be some overlapping between Kushan Empire and Midland somewhere - but your first point, I should have maybe gone into a bit more detail for, the first name-drop chapter does state that Tudor is in the East, then Doldrey reaffirms that 👍🏼.
But yeah, an overlap of Kushan E and Midland somewhere could be much more accurate to the plot.
The world of berserk as always fascinated me fantastic video as always
I've always thought of Midland as word play on Mi(d)lan(d) in Berserk's fantasy Italy. That would also make the Papal lands or "Holy See" position make sense as both were in central Europe "the Boot". This would also make sense for King Gaiseric's Empire (i.e. Rome) as the old Roman Empire was based in Italy. The Kushan seemed like an eastern invading force and a clear reference to the Muslim expansion of the middle ages with massive Caliphates invading Europe regularly.
Casca coming from a "fantasy Hispania" or a bordering country to the Kushan Empire is also the best explanation I have for her skin color with Caucasian features. IRL Hispania was almost completely conquered by Muslims before the Reconquista, and thus fits perfectly for the character who looks half Hispanic/Arab (Kushan). Other smaller territories and the nations they represent could be like a quasi-Holy roman empire.
Either way it's clear Miura was emulating dark ages Europe and the Struggles found therein with Berserk's setting. Guts' very name, occupation, and injuries also match the medieval German mercenary Gotz.
berserk is back! 24 june
Man I never thought about a map whenever I read Berserk
Great video.... Keep up the good work
Miura did a brilliant job incorporating world building without shoving it in your face and having a literal map drawn out. However it basically takes place in what we know as Europe, but you would only notice that by paying attention to the details. RIP to the master🙏
I never realized Kushan was east of Tudor. I feel like Tudor is never mentioned again after the battle of doldrey. Yet Kushan empire is mentioned a lot after and tudor empire never actually fell.
Tudors nobles were in Vrittanis siding with the vandimions against the kushans
Read the Elric saga, the Witcher plagiarized it, to the point where Elric couldn't get a tv show made, the author deserves far more credit, and the story is an amazing read, and theirs a good comic adaptation.
Apparently there was a lawsuit filed but Moorcock lost, so I don’t know if I’d throw as heavy a word as plagiarism around, but I’ll definitely get onto reading that!
@@alexenterprises1 There was never a lawsuit? Give it (the Elric Saga) a read, because it's really good, and I think you'll see why people have been claiming the Witcher is heavily plagiarized for the longest time. I'm inclined to agree with them.
Raz0rfist covers this plagiarism well.
Plagiarism is a heavy word to describe both series imo. The overall story become very different, especially when both Geralt & Elric clearly a totally different person altogether.
Also, the no movie/show for Elric series is definitely not "Witcher's fault" since the series simply have no momentum to built on. I love Moorcock works as he is arguably the grandfather of dark fantasy, but the weird hardcore fans need to stop blaming outside force (product) for the yet to be adapted shenanigans.
i love how calm your voice is and isn’t exaggerated compared to other youtubers and i love how straight forward you are rather than pushing out ten minutes for ads
This was a great video. We badly need an official map for this, and I think this is as good as it gets.
Ha, havent finished the video yet, but just wanted to say I'm happy you're getting more into fantasy! I love The Witcher and ASOIAF. I actually just finished The Dark Tower a few days, immediately started rereading. Definitely my favorite of the 3.
so awesome that you've put this amount of research into something like this
amazing work!
Funny how your basicly Berserk's own VaatiVidea, even you're voice is similar.
I mean The Witcher doesn't have an oficiall map, aka made by Sapkowski.
Yeah, there's a huge problem with this proposed map. In order for Kushan to conquer Midland like it did in the manga, it would need to march its troops aalllll the way through Tudor, from one end of the country to the other and I don't think Tudor is going to let an enemy nation move its armies freely within its borders.
They don’t let them, there’s heavy war between Tudor and the Kushans, worse than in Midland, or at least that’s what the common folk say.
Always nice to see Berserk content from you
the flairs of looks & names that I got for the countries in Berserk:
Midland: England
Tudor: Germany
Kushan: India or South Asia
Vritannis: Italia & Switzerland
Ys: Portugal & Spain
Elfhelm & Skellige: Slavic & Ireland
I’d say midland would be England & France, and elfhelm/skellig is just ireland.
Midland is Holy Roman Empire
I wonder if the Américas exist in the Berserk! Also! I wonder if he takes place in an Alternate World! Than what does the Modern Era of Berserk look like? Also do Demons exist in the Americas in the World of Berserk!
HALLO
i am a weekly viewer of your videos, and love your analysis on anime and manga. i just got finished with tatsuki fujimoto new one shot💥 (Goodbye, Eri)💥 and i spild a tear.
Well i again was amazed by this story and peace of art and emotion and fiction he can draw.
it would be AMAZING, If your could read it and make a deep dive analysis. Say your opinion.
But keep going.
can you do The artistic evolution of Dr Stone?
Guiserick (probably spelt incorrectly) definitely sounds like berserks equivalent to Charlemagne
You should do a witcher video
I would absolutely love to! Maybe one day 👍🏼
I appreciate all the research put into this.
You can literally see Greece and the boot of italy together with the coast of africa
this
This was great
Hey man there is an old mod from 2009 on Beserk and i think it depicts the world in the best way
Great video. The only thing I’d see being different is the size of the Kushan Empire. I picture it encompassing a landmass at least equal in size to all the others combined and including some islands and archipelagos.
- A crown for a king.
Khal Drogo, "Game Of Thrones"
Do an updated OP vid and take back some of the "duds" mentioned (some were very valid tho) in "The Genius Of One Piece" video. Oda leaves very little unexplained:
Luffy being able to use red hawk as we now know seems more possible and logical.
Sanji (genetically made) using fire, with the introduction of Lunarians (use fire) and Minks (use electricity), seems possible too now. This added another layer, but it was already there with the fishmen being able to control water in a very unique way and the sky folk having unique features so Lunarians and Minks are not just a new additions to make things make sense.
Oda likes chemistry as seen with how in depth Ceasar's df powers were shown and pudding's pet nitro, being short for nitroglycerine which is used for explosives. So yeah, really not many duds with OP. Foxy arcs and shit like that yeah for sure but with important characters and power systems... nope.
i read in an interview miura saying that guts is german .so it confirms the setting being central europe and it you look at early berserk the design of the architecture and armor looked more medieval as time passes its becomes more victorian. in elfheim the rocky plains and monumets are british probably scotland as for vritanis despite the reference to the vatikan it looked more like east europe with the architecture fashion and snowy weather but maybe its italy
I wonder if Miura created the Ys island as a reference to the video game with the same name!
I would say both Miura sensei & the Ys games were inspired by the legend of Ys. That's why Ys games always set in a mysterious ancient (mostly buried/drowned) city with a lot of history....
fantastic as always
Another great video! Thanks man!
If you want some good modern adult fantasy to read I highly recommend Brandon Sanderson. Probably the best modern fantasy author rn. Also the name of the wind is a good read
Shoutout to kingkiller chronicles, book 3 got me like "aight bruh when the fuck you gonna drop this shit it's been ten fucking years"
A better real world comparison of Midland would be the Holy Roman Empire
And Kushan Empire is Ottoman Empire..the world of berserk is set around mid 16th century when Ottoman Turks and Holy Roman Empire were in constant war
This was really good
Never seen anyone talk about this before. To me Berserk was always a very intimate story. I know there are huge battles and such, but my focus was always on the characters and not the world. This definitely gives me a different perspective
The video posted about one month ago and you claimed that you were interested in western fantasy staff, in conclusion, you must have played Elden Ring and the game might very likely bring you into this such interest.
something that people dont realize is that guts doesnt really have a choice when it comes to just letting things go with griffith.
griffith is a monster who will sacrifice more people and will kill anyone who stands in his way.
the godhand will continue to cause suffering and will gladly make earth a living hell for the sake of their own amusement
and of course casca. she is still branded. both guts and her are still branded. when they die they will be sent to hell. the godhand and griffith will condemn many more people to hell.
the way the world works in berserk is that the idea of evil seems to want more people going to hell to sustain itself, and that there is no other alternative to something better. maybe killing the godhand and destroying the idea of evil will open the world up to a more peaceful better future than life being short, brutish, and ending with eternal suffering.
maybe guts is the messianic figure that destroys all of manifestations of evil in the world and allows something better to take its place.
Nice
DUDE amazing video. I love shit like this man
Très sympa.
when are you going to do a video about the art of the new chapters
NICE!.
Is Gaiseric loosely based on Julius Caesar?
Geography is everything
Great stuff man!
This is so cool
Loved the video
Maura never made a map?
If you're getting into fantasy, definitley recommend Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan. Also recommend just about anything by Brandon Sanderson.
Not sure Berserk really needs a map though to tell it's story. It sort of takes away from the mythological flavor of it. This vibe reads more like an old fable or poem such as Beowulf or King Arthur than a modern day Japanese manga. Having it all mapped out would make it feel like just some other ASOIAF or Witcher story or one of these Dark Souls/Elden Ring/Bloodborne/Elder Scrolls type franchises which are heavily influenced by Berserk in the first place. I want it to feel more like an ancient tale you grew up hearing about than another typical franchised universe, because Berserk is so much more than that. But this story has gotten me through a lot and has been my number 1 for 20 years and I'm 30 now. So I actually did grow up with it. Maybe newer fans don't feel the same.
Tbh I am so mad that he died. I can't help it, berserk is my favorite anime and he had much time to complete the story and now this will never be finished.
Cool Map,looks like some of those old maps of the world in Florence, but what would it look like on a modern map, during the great roar we could see parts of Africa, the UK and spain
Thanks ProfessionalAssholeTingler!
