The amazing thing about the single-stroke victory by Guts is how it shows that even though he was fighting for someone else's dreams, he had cultivated his fighting skills beyond that of griffith's by constantly being on the frontlines and testing and pushing himself. I just came up with this but this could reflect the difference between someone who spends their time dreaming and the one who spends his time doing. Guts' repeated successes in the face of overwhelming odds made the rest of the band look up to Guts as much if not more than Griffiths. So when he leaves we understand EXACTLY why griffiths is so devastated since a lot of their rise to power may not have happened without Guts. This is a hard realisation to have all in a single sword stroke.
There is a degree of truth in this, but Griffith's breakdown following the fight has more to do with the fact that he thought of Guts as his *possession* - the very idea that something that belonged to him could break free of his grasp was a nightmare to him and his first reaction to that was to assert control over someone else (i.e. the princess Charlotte) in an attempt to restore his own ego (which led to his imprisonment).
Devilman, Guin Saga, Original Star Wars, Excalibur (Arthurian legends), & Conan The Barbarian are some of the few series that heavily inspired Berserk.
The Conan influence is especially prevalent. As a matter of fact, one of the first things I thought when I first watched the 1997 anime was "Oh yeah, this is *very* Conan."
All that western stuff and not one mention of Go Nagai. The core of the Golden Age arc is Devilman. The core of the early Black Swordsman stuff is Violence Jack.
Where does Miura get the time to read and DIGEST all the reference material? Everything from Neitsche to Greek Mythology! There's only 24 hours in a day.

The Sea God arc has also took some inspiration from the Pirates of the Caribean movie. Even though Evil Dead did not inspire the original conception of Guts, it played a large influence on later chapters, especially on the design and behavior of people possessed by evil spirits. Berserk actually has a whole lot of inspiration from the first Final Fantasy game on the NES. Town names, monster design, the existance of an elven village and the need of a boat to reach to it etc. The Guin Saga novels are one of Miura's main inspirations when it comes to world building The war between Midland and Tudor is roughly inspired by the real world 100 year war between France and England.

I wouldn't really call it a horror movie, although there are some horror aspects to it. It's a weird ass 70's movie about a disfigured musician seeking revenge against a satanic producer who stole his masterpiece. It's nice to watch to see all the plot elements Miura borrowed though.
You clearly have a lot of interest and passion for this series, and it shows in the level of research you've put into it, but your biggest issues are primarily on a technical level. Something that will help enormously is to just move away from your mic a little. It'll help decrease the slight popping, as well as the sounds of breath and mouth noises, and encourage you to speak a little more loud and decisively in order to be better picked up by the microphone, serving to inject your narration with just that extra bit of energy. In terms of the images displayed on screen, I notice you incorporate a lot of fades, and that's great. It's a good way to keep the momentum going in your video as you transition from one image to the next. The only issue is that this momentum is stopped dead by the static nature of these images as they just sit deadly still. I did notice some of them moving so I know you're aquainted with how to manage that effect, but it's something you'll want to do just a little bit more often. Finally, you committed a cardinal sin by including footage from the new series without sufficient advanced warning. It may interest you to know that prolonged exposure to that animation has been cited as a leading cause of eye cancer by the Surgeon General, and also that the suicide rate among Berserk fans has quadrupled since its debut in 2016. I'll try not to hold that last one against you, after all, how could you have known? Still though, it's best you keep that in mind going forward. In the meantime, I hope my beast of a comment has offered a little bit of helpful advice, and that you continue to see success on UA-cam. Cheers!

Hmm I thought Gaiseric is inspired by Genghis Khan & Alexander The Great. This inline with Miura's previous works/manga about time travel in Genghis Khan reign. Also, Caska is inspired by Joan of Arc. It's pretty obvious with the warrior maiden & witch hunt plots.
Well, there are more similarities to the Shah of Khwarazmia, Muhammad II, who was one of the enemies of Genghis. Muhammad had just recently consolidated his empire and became the most powerful ruler in the middle east, but then makes one of worst mistakes in history by pissing Genghis off, inciting a Mongol invasion that completely and utterly destroyed his great empire in only 2 years.
Croz Raven the vandals didn't even have a land empire. They were naval based where yeah, carthage was the capital, but they were coastal with two of Italy's main islands in their possession. I would have to say I disagree with the videos interpretation of the skull knight Emporer Gaiseric or at least it would be more proper to say Emporer Gaiseric is a combination of Alexander and vandals Genseric. The only reason I say this is because Gaiseric is an Emporer where all of mainland Europe in berserk is dependent from Gaiseric's fallen empire. The vandals kingdom lasted until 543 as an intenral waring state to boot where king Genseric died in 477.

Everyone should look up the French artist Gustave Doré. He did a series based off the bible and Paradise lost, and honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if he inspired Miura's art, both in terms of imagery, and how he actually draws.

Greetings from Sweden! Regarding the undead spirits reanimating corpses, which of course quite often occurs in Berserk, the specific characteristics of them are quite similar to undead entities in Norse mythology. We call them "Draugar" (literal translation from old Norse would just be "ghosts"). They are the reanimated corpses of those who died without peace, and they are driven by malice and envy of the living, for still possessing the gift of life. One who was killed by a draug, could also become a draug (Remember Collette, volume 1). When rising from their graves, they could also take the form of a mass of smoke (much like the spirits not possessing a vessel in Berserk). Maybe this description fits the undead from many pieces of old mythology, but I am mostly familiar with Norse mythology. Just a little food for thought.
One of the most surprises for me was to descover Beksinski's art and see MANY similarities troughout Berserk. The invocation of the Godhand looks very much like any paint of Beksinski, wich makes me think that the surrealist part of berserk comes from that. Never saw anyone talk about this reference, and I think it would be worth some investigation.
Nice video and all, but there should have been a lot to talk about regarding Skellig and all its real world mythological references -- same goes for the general state of the world at the onset of Fantasia.

The oneshot story is similar to the first episode of the Anime original. Perhaps the first episode of the anime series back in 1997 was not a coincidence, it was a way of introducing the story almost as a one shot original before going back to how he became like that.
There's one thing I have yet to see someone address about berserk. The part where the gypsy woman gives Griffith the behelit. What she says to Griffith... That is something that I think needs to be explored. It's something that really resonated with me when I first saw berserk... Though I first saw the original anime, before the golden arc series. I still like the original better lol. Just saying.
Femto's mask and look to me, is a clear nod to Brian De Palma's 'Phantom of the Paradise'- a retelling a of faust where a man sells his soul to make popular music.
To me I always felt like if you were to take Julius Caesar Genghis khan and Alexander the Great you would get Supreme king Gaiseric better known as SK.

Funnily enough, this was recorded back in November, and before Crybaby I had no idea of its existence 😂. With all of the great comments on what else inspired Berserk, however, I am tempted to make a Part 2 where I'd give it a mention along with other things.
AlexEnterprises1 Great idea about doing a part 2. And don't worry, I also didn't know about Devilman being a big inspiration for series like Berserk, Neon Genesis Evangelion etc. I mean I knew about all these Go Nagai series, but never read/watched them, untill Crybaby.😁
Pretty hyped now to go back and read his manga. Heard with stuff like Mazinger Z and Cutie Honey he basically created the mecha piloting and magical girls genres.

Regarding the undead spirits reanimating corpses, which of course quite often occurs in Berserk, the specific characteristics of them are quite similar to undead entities in Norse mythology. We call them "Draugar" (literal translation from old Norse would just be "ghosts"). They are the reanimated corpses of those who died without peace, and they are driven by malice and envy of the living, for still possessing the gift of life. One who was killed by a draug, could also become a draug (Remember Collette, volume 1). When rising from their graves, they could also take the form of a mass of smoke (much like the spirits not possessing a vessel in Berserk). Maybe this description fits the undead from many pieces of old mythology, but I am mostly familiar with Norse mythology. Just a little food for thought.

One of the most surprises for me was to descover Beksinski's art and see MANY similarities troughout Berserk. The invocation of the Godhand looks very much like any paint of Beksinski, wich makes me think that the surrealist part of berserk comes from that. Never saw anyone talk about this reference, and I think it would be worth some investigation.

Berserk has always had a lot of medieval Spain in it.
In fact, I suspect Gutz is based loosely on El Cid.
The oneshot story is similar to the first episode of the Anime original.
Perhaps the first episode of the anime series back in 1997 was not a coincidence, it was a way of introducing the story almost as a one shot original before going back to how he became like that.

There's one thing I have yet to see someone address about berserk. The part where the gypsy woman gives Griffith the behelit. What she says to Griffith... That is something that I think needs to be explored. It's something that really resonated with me when I first saw berserk... Though I first saw the original anime, before the golden arc series. I still like the original better lol. Just saying.
Femto's mask and look to me, is a clear nod to Brian De Palma's 'Phantom of the Paradise'- a retelling a of faust where a man sells his soul to make popular music.
