Celica and GT-Four fan here, what an amazing ST-165 they got and impressive mods
I've owned my ST165 for 15+ years, and she's been the automotive love of my life and my worst enemy. She kills it on the streets and on the track. The parts, are rare and expensive or simply non-existent. However she gets looks wherever she goes, nobody knows what she is and I absolutely love the deep snarl of the 3sgte and its vicious howl at WOT. I'm so happy to see others building beautiful ST165's and swapping in parts from other cars. Mines ran the Sand Blast in the past as well as drag and track. Im running an E151F transmission which is a massive improvement for the old 165's. The suspensions always been the hard to find and match up weak fields. I may be calling you boys in the future about some suspension work on my old girl. She's eaten enough axles, wheel bearings and hubs over the years. Well done lads, beautiful work on a beautiful old ST165. Eric Thompson, you are a legend in my book sir, good on you for keeping her alive and looking mean as hell! Awesome vid Larry!
Side Note: When I saw a commercial for the ST165 as a kid it was my dream car. Yeah, I had a poster of a Ferrari F40 on my wall like everyone, but that weird little chubby Toyota was my goal. Its what drove me to become a Toyota Master Tech and to specialize in old and turbo Toyotas.

Can you clarify the rear knuckles? You said Highlander Knuckles modified to install Prius Knuckles in the video. Did you mean hub?

3S-GTE engine is so underrated.
Ikr, they also deserve love as well. They've also got plenty of potentials as well!!! Ngl, if incase, BY ANY CHANCE, that one day, I'd be able to get myself a Supra Mk4 or Mk3, I'd do a 3sgte swapped on them, sure it might be a downgrade in terms of top speed and etc, but it'd gain me some decent amount of advantage when it comes into track racing or endurance racing!!! And sometimes, it's also cool to try something new, explore what's outside of the box and learn more about them, that'd be fun imo but anyways, totally agree with u!!!
Old school TOP SECRET SUPRA had a 3sgte swapped!!!! Amazing car
Also the Tom’s castrol mk4 had a 3sgte to save weight

Larry, I've followed your channel for quite a while now and I really jive with the types of cars you continually feature. The alltrac love however has been awesome to see, these cars are underappreciated and it seems no one knows about them. Thanks for bringing attention to one of my favorite platforms; I hope it drives more people to buy and tastefully modify these older Toyotas.

162 owner from finland here, the prius bearing thing is probably a lifesaver for me in the future since slip to grip has been somewhat of a worry for me. Now i know prius is the anwser 😁
Love the ST165! My first car was a 162, loved that car.
I have st165, i live in Europe. It is pretty hard to get parts for it and if you do find it will cost you a lot, this is probably the main reason why the chassis is not so popular in racing...

Loved those cars as kid and still do just VERY RARE TO SEE ONE ON THE STREET!!! Even more rare to to see the earlier 80s ones! And old Supras could’ve had one but just didn’t fit a family car back then!

I have burned so many wheel bearings! as a kid, I'd redo the front bearings twice a summer.
Very cool to see a ST165 tuned for circuit racing! I use one of mine for rallycross - not the easiest car to use for motorsports due to their rarity and lack of (stock) parts and small aftermarket support versus, say a Miata or E46 or WRX... I'm super curious about the use of Prius knuckles, as I'm going through bearings and something easier to replace and beefier would be perfect for the abuse my car goes through on a typical rallycross course (and that's not including the jumps that I try to not catch too much air on!).
I think you'd really like what Alex Wilhelm (Wilhelm Raceworks) has done with his SW20 MR2
And Marc of Frankenstein Motorworks to his ZZW30 MR2.

Missed a lot of detail engine transmission , turbo specs , over here everything has restrictors , depending on your fuel and compression , you have more left in it

Lots of reasons Hybrid stuff is "thicc."
-Worst case scenario the electric speed control goes haywire and goes full juice... electric motors make mad torque.
-More material = more vibration dampening (NvH)
-More mass = more rolling resistance (additional inertia for green mileage ranges)

I used to have a 165. Very neutral handling car, much more so than the later models. The stock 1st gen 3SGTE requires you to flog it to get any power though.
Had one of these st165 alltracs a few years ago fun cars . A bit heavy though

I used to have to wash one of these as a young guy in his first job.
Hated the alloys I was forever catching my fingers in the gaps of the spokes if you want to call them that.
And it was white!

Still been the owner of st162 , I can’t get over this car it handles way to good , poorly it’s getting harder to keep the 3sfe in it running perfectly, inmop this car has a lot of potential it’s just a matter of time people started to bring them back like the 240s and Hondas , this chassis is strong
