This is a really rare car, especially the 1's with the "Pop-Up" headlights. I remember my mom bought 1 when I was a kid and she was so happy about it and I remember how mint it was because she got it from an old lady in Alabama. I think she mustve only paid like $2000 and it was basically only driven to the store and it was brand new. I loved that car and now I'm always into these cars when I see them. And it took me a minute to find out about which models are which from that Era because Toyota was trying alot back then with this car and the Supra but I really like this car more so body wise. I wish they would've played around with different engines for it back then too.

@@400ss coming from someone who races a sc400 chassis, it's plenty nimble lol. Get a rid of the kushy luxury shit & it feels like any other 90s JDM coupe.. difference being it's more stable doing high speeds from the factory. The non interference factory forged internal 1uz can also eat 800+ hp & rev up without much help at all, and is lighter than a 2j 🤷
My favourite Celica build ever! Love how it looks like it was made factory from Toyota. well done!!
Such a great built! I loved the idea of a 2JZ swap Celica Supra but wow, a UZ Celica is dope 🔥
My first car was an 83 red Supra GTS-essentially this car with with a straight six and a different nose. These cars are so great in so many ways. This guy has made himself a car I'm sure he enjoys. Great combo of liveability, reliability, economy, low profile, and performance.
Awesome build. I have always liked these cars when I was a kid. I tried to buy one as my first car and it needed a head gasket but dad wasn't going for it lol
Love this build. My Dad had an 84 Celica GT when I was growing up (he bought it new). I can remember sitting in the car in the driveway as a kid rowing through the gears and pretending I was driving down a back road. It's one of my first car memories. His even had the rear glass louvers like this one. Thanks to the owner for sharing - it brings back some memories.
This dude is so chill and mellow
duuude I want to do this!! I was thinking of getting a 70's Corolla SR5 sport back with a 1UZ. THIS IS GORGEOUS!
I actually found one in the salvage yard here in CA, that thing must have flown. The entire front end was crushed, I had to take some photos because it was pretty amazing to see.
The SC400/Soarer is a sports car that Toyota made with this motor.
That chassis is more or a gran touring like the Supra (in respect to the MK4). Lots of power but not as nimble as smaller cars.
@@400ss coming from someone who races a sc400 chassis, it's plenty nimble lol. Get a rid of the kushy luxury shit & it feels like any other 90s JDM coupe.. difference being it's more stable doing high speeds from the factory. It's 300lb & a small wheelbase difference from a supra. These chassis do well pretty much all around.. drifting, time attack, straight line, hillclimb. The non interference factory forged internal 1uz can also eat 800+ hp & rev up without much help at all, and is lighter than a 2j 🤷
It’s like SC stands for “Sport Coupe” lol people are weird
I recently bought a Toyota Soarer from Japan and I must say it's a weapon of car with the 1UZFE
The way this man can spit out the part specs and numbers for his car though. Respect.

I love Toyota ❤️
99 percent of NON Toyota people would think this is OEM.
My favourite Celica build ever! Love how it looks like it was made factory from Toyota. The little touches and all the oem parts, the 1UZ conversion is the best and the air box mod to fit it in, the entire engine bay is one of the cleanest example ever and as a daily driver you’d love to driver it as you’re daily. Frank you are a legend much respect too you’re build you would inspired a lot of Toyota and car lovers too create this agian i know you have inspired me and one day im going to build me something like this 🙌🔥
Beautiful car! Also the Mitsubishi Starion from that era has some design elements shared with these Toyota’s.
Especially with these 5 spoke wheels, it’s got some of that flavor.
Very nice!
What are the rims called though I know XXR but like the name of those
Fucking love that he dailies this. So much respect for people that daily such unique and custom vehicles. I love my '95 Celica daily but it's a goal to one day be able to build and daily something this cool. Awesome car
My favorite episode so far, I owned a 85 celica in red , miss my cars 🙌🙏😷👍
🙇🏻♂️🙏🏼
Finally a Celica!!!! A Real Celica, I've been dieing for you To do AutoFocus on An 84-85 Celica Vert! I had a Red 85 Vert and never seen one fully restored/ Slammed on BBS'S/2JZ Swap ETC.!!! 🙌🙏 please find one They were converted to convertible by ASC i believe in California. I used to live in Cleveland Ohio, had to sell mine due to financial troubles.... But found another saving up to get my baby back!!!
Larry, if you love that Celica, you'd love my 90 4Runner 2 door with a 1UZ. I need to drive down there and meet y'all.
Incredible build. Amazing that he dropped a V8 in there and it looks TOTALLY OEM. And those louvers on the back glass look absolutely PERFECT on that car. Brings back so many memories.
I LOVE THIS CAR IT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD TO SEE THIS , AND I LOVE THIS SHOW THANK YOU FROM THE BAMAMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is so cool. I love this build. Plus this guy is so articulate and knowledgeable, it makes it that much more enjoyable to watch. Thanks for bringing this content to us Larry!
Frank inspired my 1UZ swap and the video documentation as well!!
🙏🏼🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️
im doing a 1Uz swap in my MK2 and need to sort out the driver side header can you tell me what you did?
Thanks Scott
@@scottkraus3492 I'll share details in my upcoming videos, but I had to remake and reroute the 3rd and 4th runners and make the collector exit a little bit more outboard than stock, so that it'll clear the steering shaft. Start by cutting off he collector with the O2 sensor bung, and then you'll see where it has to go
You can always tell what kind of person someone is by the Car they Choose to Drive & I Love This Guy!!
🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️
Damn, that Celica is so legit! Completely immaculate with all the right little touches 👌
🙏🏼🙇🏻♂️
I love his passion and all he put into this build. I hope he reads the comments because I want him to know just how much I love his car and what he has done to it. Its a very special build and is just so special.
This and the Starion look like cousins
Larry Chen is the carmeraman! keep up the good work bud, and bring us more of these build stories…. One of the most enjoyable to watch, the passion and dedication Frank puts to this car is so unique it really shows.
Love the guy, love the build, thank you for sharing this with us Larry! Also a request - any chance you could cover that 3gen Civic that was in the background? Couldn't take my eyes off it
🙏🏼🙇🏻♂️
My first car, 1985 Toyota Celica GTS. Sitting at my parents collecting dust. Maybe one day. What he did to that car is amazing!
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Dude in the back gives an unsettling vibe😂
And he's in almost every shot
Those are his kids 😅
@@maynorquevedo8832 for real, if they are then I didn't know, so my bad
Filipinos never not mobbin.
I think they’re homeless.
jdm had some very interesting car tech in the 80's. Toyota were not alone in this either. Nissan , Subaru, and Mitsubishi had very interesting tech in some of their vehicles.
that BMW in the back tho o-o *NFS Most wanted sound track starts playing*
I just love this 85' Celica. Props to the owner/builder. Super clean!
🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️
Dude by the dumpster made sure that you are seeing a large T-shirt Celica Logo that is a Dragon
That's his son 😅
I had an 84 back in 1998 in high school, back during the street racing days. Unfortunately it got no love from people. Glad to see this build, takes me back. Also this car had little to no aftermarket support, great job
For someone who claims to know a lot about cars. Larry has never seen those seats? How is that possible
I was thinking the same thing
