I have been happy with my Yakami Skybox for several years. HOWEVER, recently a crack appeared in the top of the box. From the get go, they did everything they could to deny the claim. Nothing had hit the box, it must have been the temp change from Texas to Colorado mountains.
They stated that I must have the receipt, I dug through my email and found it. Then they said, send them pictures of the damage/crack. I did.
They stated that I had to send pictures of the box on top of the vehicle, made absolutely no sense. But OK I got it out and put it back on the car and reattached it, sent multiple pictures.
Then they said, send pictures of the inside of the box, OK I did.
Then they said send more pictures of the exterior of the crack. OK I did.
Response, there is abrasions to the exterior, no there were not.
I said I want to escalate the complaint and take it in for inspection, so they could see there were no abrasions. Yakima's response, sorry there are no facilities for that, claim closed.
They did offer a 15% discount on another purchase, NO Thanks I'll buy Thule maybe they will honor their warrenty.
Wow. So sorry to hear that. You must of got a horrible rep. My apologies. I purchased one and about a year later the latch area had a small stress crack on the carbonite and all I did was email them and say that I “think” this may spread or fail. But the Yakima will still work I was just concerned. They asked for a few pics, including the interior because they wanted the build date and so forth. Then they had me write the word defective in white paint in 3 areas of the Yakima. I did as they requested. Send the photos, 3 weeks later I got a brand new Yakima. They told me to discard the old one. It’s been 4 years now and I have zero issues, my previous model had double arm latches when it closes which causes inconsistent closes, and the new versions had single arm latch (way better) and it’s been fine since.
Great informative video Fadi. I have a 2021 Infiniti QX80 which is a large SUV. On the Infiniti website they suggest the SkyBox 16, but I am leaning towards the 18 since the QX80 is such a large SUV. Do you see any problem with either the SkyBox 18 or Skybox 21 on a QX80? Is the main difference in the models the height of the box?
No issues at all. Skybox 21 is for roughly 5 people of storage. 18 will be just a tad smaller

Thanks for the video, greatly appreciated as this is a big investment. So Questions? You stated only soap and water to wash, Can you wax it to get less resistance on the highway? How is the wind noise from within the car? Do you hear noise from it at 65 miles an hour? Will it warp in the hot sun? We make several trips from PA down to Florida and are concerned it won't hold up? Thinking of a Thule but they are so much more expensive. Thanks for your help.

I get up to 80 sometimes and its 🤙
Never warps, this is my 2nd model in 4 years. It’s extremely sturdy and reliability’s the reason i choose it. Thule is just a brand like all others.
Also do you have a lifetime warranty on the box Yakima will replace it at any time including free shipping.
@@FadiSetGo So another question, I cant seem to find a store that sells it so I can see it in person. Can it hold 4 mid-sized suitcases?
Yes it holds 4 mid size, we have a large and 1 med & 2 kids suitcases.
Does standing up the box eventually warp it? Have you had any issues with your previous 21 size boxes by storing it that way? I want to stand up my 21 box but I'm afraid of damaging it.
Not at all. Garage doesn’t gain any major heat in the summer other than the standard feel. Winter is fine. Had my 2017 skybox 21 for 4 years that way. It was perfect the whole time. The carbonate material is extremely hard and formed. Warping would only happen if stored outside during summer heat for like over a year. You will be fine with vertical storage. Trust me
