I have zero desire to take up weightlifting, but I have the utmost respect for the athletes that do it. I've always admired the Olympic movements and the mobility and explosiveness it takes to achieve them.
Loving your videos with Dylan. At 2:13 just another random gem that just resonates about patience and when to extend / intent vs. outcome; can't wait until this afternoon to try that.
I do strongman but my overhead movements got a lot better when I started trying to feel the balls of my feet before going into the dip and drive. Also the que of pointing the knuckles down when cleaning actually works on axle cleans as well for keeping the bar close during the pull.
I'm 38 and a few months into lifting. I too wish I started sooner and could do comps and stuff. But better to have found it at all. It's super niche. Grateful anyway 🙂
@gsp4prez Hey, I did find a gym that has a platform and olympic bars. It's small but it's still easy to access. I got a coach that's local, which is amazing. And I'm training almost every day. It's fun and I recommend you go do it! Watch videos and learn then get on a program. Worth it, in my opinion.
Regarding patience, I'm not an expert, but for me deliberately going slow for as long as possible in the pull has helped a lot becoming more powerful. The way it feels is a lot like a proper dynamic start: you build up tension and the body just wants to go, but you're forcing all that tension to stay until contact. Since this already sounds like I'm describing something else: Basically, you're edging for a more powerful release.
What I like about lift companion is it is similar to a podcast in the way that both yall bounce ideas off each other. But it's edited so it's not dragging on too long and the bar is in your hands so it's a mix of lifting tutorial too
Excellent video. I am slowly getting back to weightlifting after almost 8 years of not doing it lol. I don't have the ceiling height for snatches but cleans will do me for the time being. Thank you.
Loved the comment, at the beginning of the video, about the hips. I have been noticing lately, that I have shifted from shoulder focus, when feeling that I may lose it and fail the snatch, and am now doing exactly what you described. It's hard to put into words, but at times when I feel like I may miss, I think all my focus was trying to save the rep with the shoulders and elbows, locking out, etc. But what I am noticing now is that stuff is relatively solid, and the biggest thing lately that has been helping to save a snatch, when it feels like I am going to miss it, is to drop into that deepest position. I feel like it just naturally sets the bar in the correct place...that is what it feels like anyway.....totally feel like I am not explaining this very well. Lol. Oh well! It was cool that you talked about that, because now I know that is exactly what is helping me.
Kang squats warm ups for the win. Gonna try that cue for the snatch 'cuz gf is always pulling early. The cue a while back about split jerking (think about front squatting to recruit the posterior chain--all things power) totally improved my lift so looking forward to this one. Thank you guys! Another simple response to the keyboard warrior: DYELB. Petition for shirt with that on it BTW.
Hey Zack, Love the video's and the content. Is there any way you can find a european partner for the clothing. Ordering from barbell apparel for me makes it way to expensive with shipping. Keep up the content you rock!
Casey rocket next big thing? I had no idea he could snatch 220 bro shit. Só strong, só agile. Definitely gonna get popped using oxycodon cuz he never made it as a wise man.

Why not take up weightlifting as part of training? It is most excellent.

Damn dude. I'm just happy I can do 100kg snatch at 47yrs old. Wish I had started sooner. I learned a lot from you.

I also enjoy snatch edging to increasing technical efficiency. Used to rush everything. Now, its all about the slow and sexy before extension.
