That stare of the guy at 16:49 takes me back! :D I spent a lot of hours on that game. Great video GouldFish!

I liked the look of the running jumping puzzler at the start!
There was a 1983 ZX Spectrum game called "Paratroopers" that is similar in concept to "Parattack".
    That Liberation looks intriguing!

Benefactor is a fun if tricky little game, one to check out if you haven't
and I figured there would be a game similar on the 8bits, lots of the PD games we look at seem to have roots in the 8bits.

Kings Quest 6 on the Amiga is probably one of the better Sierra titles on the system, because it wasnt actually done by Sierra. It was Revolution Software who rebuilt the game from scratch using their Virtual Theatre engine and they did a great job. I wish they couldve taken over and ported other Sierra titles onto the Amiga.

    • @GouldFishOnGames
      @GouldFishOnGames  8 місяців тому +2

Oh, had no idea that Revolution took over this one.
I'd played a few early Sierra games and wasn't impressed so never considered the later ones.

@@GouldFishOnGames yeah with what they had Revolution did an impressive job. I just wish Sierra had outsourced their other titles as ive always felt they never cared for the Amiga

Benefactor and Jetstrike are both classics! Good month for cover disks actually.

I have Liberation for my CD32. I also have no idea what to do in it. But it's fun to sometimes load up the intro sequence. Then wander about and die.

That sounds like most of my attempts at the full game!

The Kings Quest port looks an interesting one. I wish they'd gone 256 colours rather than the Revolution 32 colour one!

I guess they wanted to target all amiga's rather then just the AGA machines.
But it could have looked lovely on the A1200

I had the copy of the April 1994 issue of
    THE ONE FOR AMIGA 😺👍.
But its condition was so bad,
i had to throw it away to the trash 😹.

Oh no! must have been difficult to throw away.

Ah yes, Liberation: Captive 2 😁 I have the CD32 version (Trill voiced by Neil Morrisey) = Still Not a Scooby 😆

You really do need to check out the CD32 version of Liberation, it is playable with a mouse and keyboard and you can save games to a disk drive too. It really was ahead of it's time in so many ways (voice acted dialog for most lines, open world RPG, every building and door is accessible) but suffered from it's limitations too (the levels being procedurally generated and all the same style and no progression being the worst)

I have the game, and I've checked it out a few times.
I think I started to work it out once, but then left it too long and I've forgotten it all again!
but at some point I'll put some real time in.

    Amiga Power:
Benefactor is such a good game but you may not get that impression from screen shots, so a substantial demo would certainly have sold me on the game.
I know some people collect demos of a game that differ from demo to demo & I actually get that. A Jetstrike demo collection would be inconvenient on floppies but interesting off a hard drive.
    Amiga Format:
Oof! Somewhere out the Elon Musk just shuddered for that “X” comment. 😄
Music-X is a decent sequencer but I can’t help thinking it’s the kind of program anyone working on music would already have bought commercially? Also when it comes to MIDI I automatically think ST, not Amiga.
I have played Total Carnage & I don’t remember a thing about it, that’s how “good” it is & I’m sure the demo reflects that.
Dozer’s interesting? I may actually play that? 10 levels is pretty good for a demo too.
When it comes to vector art I automatically think Acorn, so it would be interesting to see a vector package on the Amiga.
    The One for Amiga:
Heimdall 2 is a decent game & like you said, it’s a fairly pretty game. It’s nice to see a playable demo, as rolling demos make it look like the publisher has no faith in the game play experience.
As a fan of Missile Command & it’s ilk I’d play Para Attack. Also how did they sample the voices in my head? 😄
Thump & Burn has an… “aesthetic.” To be honest I like racers that put crap on the track for you to bump in to but on the other hand it seems to have a lot going on? I would certainly have played the demo back in the day but I don’t know if it would have sold me the game?
“Oh a drink a drink a drink to… Cookie?” That bad pun has more going on than the game, although having said that I did play the Spectrum & liked it OK.
    CU Amiga:
Adorage is a bit niche for a cover-disk & like Music-X I can’t help thinking it’s the kind of program anyone working on video editing would already have?
Task Force has my attention. You don’t necessarily think of cover-disk PD games having that kind of depth?
Hay getting a virus checker from a (largely) legitimate source is actually a nice addition for me?
By the time Kings Quest VI came out on the Amiga, the DOS versions of that series were already streets ahead unfortunately. I mean running from floppy on the Amiga we had already missed out on the ant song from KQ5. Missing out on that was the single most compelling argument to move platforms. 😄
Even if Dotz is a bit basic, getting an extra game that wasn’t mentioned always felt like winning a prize to me. (Yes, I was indeed easily impressed back then.)
    Amiga Action:
Liberation looks interesting? I don’t know the game either but not showing you or introducing itself is bad for a demo, that’s not how you sell the game.
How dare you skip over Benefactor! Hang your head in shame sir! 😄
Centre Court Tennis demo certainly wouldn’t have sold me on the game.
Assassin Special Edition does seem like an improvement? A decent sized demo may have convinced me to buy the game after not bothering with the original?
Interesting picks for your top 3. For me Task Force would be my number 3 pick for being such a fleshed out PD game, Heimdall 2 would be at number 2 for obvious reasons & Benefactor would be my number 1 pick. It’s a lesser known game that didn’t look like much on the page but is actually a gem & a decent sized demo would have shown people what the game was/is. Great video, thanks.

Yeah Amiga Power had 2 solid demos, even if they had shown up before but they do give you a real idea of the games.
bit of a mixed one on Format, I'm sure those who were interested in music and art might have bought the software already. But could be a good intro for a few people.
or make for nice coloured blank disks for other games 😁
Bump and Burn is an odd one, I can see where they were going with it but not sure it works all that well. but its a very fancy engine!
Some off software from CU Amiga, the virus checker would have been useful to some.
But not sure I ever got a virus on the Amiga (or maybe I did and a virus checker would have told me 😉)
Liberation is such a chunky game, that they would have needed to give so much more pages to it then they did in the magazine.
I think if I had this one back in the day I would have spent ages exploring as its an interesting environment.
and Assassin Special Edition is cool, decent sized demo (rather then the timed one we got for the original Assassins) which helps.
the updated sprite does look better.
My top 3 I think was more influenced by the full games for some of them.

Total Carnage is FAR superior in the Arcades. Much faster, and the weapons are substantially different.

I sorta guessed it would have been better in the arcade, but I'd never played it.
