While all three actors really brought their own magical take to Dumbledore, Richard Harris is the top contender for me, since he was not only the introductory Dumbledore, but gave him a quiet, benevolent wisdom. Rest in Peace, Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.
I agree he brought a warmth to the character that Dumbledore was known for in the books. Jude Law did well and embraced that warmth. He is a good balance of both Gambon and Harris
While Michael Gambon delivered a solid performance, I'll still never be able to take "Harry, did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" Dumbledore asked calmly seriously.
LOL I said the same thing. That part annoys me to no end. Like, didn't they do multiple takes? Shouldn't JK have caught that, since she needs to approve the script?
Harris was everything Dumbledore is. Also, what does movie quality have to do with the portrayal of the character? Was that section just added to give Gambon a free point?
Harris is number one and it’s not close. The others did a good job but when I imagined how Albus looked, Harris is EXACTLY what I imagined.
Perfect casting
Harris was prefect as the light hearted, soft spoken DD...didn't really like Gambon's portrayal until Phoenix. I'm still annoyed in how he acted in Gobbet. The way he was aggressive to harry was not DD like at all.
While I agree, I mostly blame the director.

Okay I feel like this video is painting Gambon as an insanse person who is always on the verge of a angry rage that would even coward Voldemort. He wasn't that bad.
I loved them all. But especially enjoyed Jude Law. It showed that Dumbledore's style and flair was always a part of him

Micheal gambons performance always made the most sense to me because I’d imagine Dumbledore is under a bit of stress during those school years

I couldn't stand how scruffy Gambon's Dumbledore looked when Harris had been the picture of elegance and wisdom. To not read the source material is crazy. There's a reason why Ian McKellen's Gandalf is so loved and if Harris had lived longer he would have been afforded the same admiration I am sure. For me he was the perfect Dumbledore shame he left us too soon.

Not talking about any of these actors, but quoting my father with respect to Peter O'Toole, my father, a stage director and actor, said that O'Toole brought to screen a certain countenance to him that made the audience think, "What is he up to?" I think Richard Harris did this in superb fashion. The other Dumbledores were good, but they didn't quite have the same gentle, sly quality.
Gambon had the best stories and scripts to work with, and he was definitely dominant in those six movies.

I wonder if Jared Harris had been approached to portray the younger version of Dumbledore before Jude Law was given the role in the fantastical world series.
Ian McKellen, the Gandalf actor, unfortunately turned down the role of Dumbledore after Harris passed away.
He had to turn the role cos he was still in production with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy at the time. LotR was being recorded all at once instead of years apart.
I remember becoming a Harry Potter fan when we were in 6th grade reading "The Philosopher's Stone". We were given the task of drawing Dumbledore as he was described in the book. I didn't know what he looked like in the films, so I could only go by the description and thought my drawing wasn't that great, but my teacher liked it and when I saw the film for the first time I thought: Wow, I was close. Richard Harris is my number 1 RIP.

Michael gave them good shyt starting vibes he low-key kept them kids in some bs, he encouraged and even helped with all the mischief and I absolutely loved it

I enjoyed all the performances by Gambon and Law, but to imply that there is any competition with Harris' portrayal is laughable.
Harris will always be the best. I had a physics professor that reminded me of him so much.
All of the Albus Dumbledore actors have been great! I hope Jude Law reprises his role as Albus Dumbledore soon. There are many possibilities.
Richard Harris was Dumbledore, although I believe Michael Gambon was the Dumbledore we needed in the later films. Interesting fact: Harris took the role because his granddaughter threatened to never speak to him again if he turned down the role
film is a different beast from books, and the Potter story deliberately changes in tone. I see Harris' fantasy accurate depiction as correct, though I argue as the films progressed, whether he would be as suited to the role, or whether the films could have sloughed off the childish wonder and matured with the same efficacy without Gambon. I like them both, but I ponder whether Harris' Dumbledore could convincingly "raise him like a pig to slaughter"... - I was a huge fan of Gambon's prior villainous turns and surprised at his Dumbledore. If I had to pick one- I pick Gambon.

For me Richard Harris's looks and performance always have been the closest to how I picture A.D. Shame fate didn't allow him to continue. However Michael Gambon did actually improve after the in my opinion disaster in The goblet of fire. Wether it was just the mistake of the director, for I didn't like the movie in general, or Gambon had eventually read the books, when Harry met him again in that dream scene at Kings Cross Station in the last movie, Gambon finally had become Dumbledore

No disrespect to Richard Harris (RIP), but the rest of the book series wasn't even written when he was cast, and no one could have predicted what was going to be required of Dumbledore for future events. I just don't see him filling the role past what he did. Dumbledore had to be a bad ass MFer later on, who was gay, and Michael gave us that.
All these things they say about Micheal Gambon's performance i don't see. i didn't even realize it was a different actor watching the movies. never paid that close atttention to them i guess. i thought he did a great job in all areas

Harris is definitely the best Dumbledore, but Jude Law really does fit the bill for a young Dumbledore not really his fault the material & production was tainted by the real villain of the wizarding world

You combine the Book accuracy, Better Debut, and Better Dialogue/Wisdom of Richard Harris, the Better Films and Magical Mystery of Michael Gambon, the Emotionality of Jude Law, and The chemistries with all characters of all 3 of them what kind of Dumbledore would you get?
I feel like you let Harris win just to please the fans. Gambon is the more realistic performance. It is stressful being a headmaster over a school, even more so during dark times threatening your entire world. Of course you need to let it out sometimes. Gambon is more how I imagine headmasters to act. In contrast Harris just walked around like a cozy grandfather, never seeing the actual danger. Yeah I know, that was how he was in the book and bla bla but the books are books.
