    This is the best, and most logical battery change of a 5 I have seen on here. Everyone else opened the watch from the front.

    Managed to tear off the battery connector.... Luckily the pads were still intact on the PCB so I enlarged them a bit and soldered the cables directly
    onto the PCB after a lot of fiddling. It works ;-) Next time I will look up a video first and not after starting the repair.
    Good video by the way 🙂

      Cheers mate! I often look up teardown vids before diving in especially with small stuff. Well done on the fix!

    The fenix 5s is usually waterproof for surfing in salt waters. Can you tell if after this battery replacement that it would still be waterproof? I can't see well on the video if it has a rubber sealing. Thanks for your time

    • @JonnyFix
      @JonnyFix  Рік тому +2

      There's a blue seal around the body of the watch visible at 4:30. It might be enough to seal again when reassembled but if you want to be sure I'd recommend obtaining a new seal.

    That red piece fell out for me. There is a thin metal pin that sticks up. Is that red piece supposed to cover that pin, or be adjacent? I put it all back together with it adjacent, I couldn't make the red piece fit over the pin without forcing it.

    Well its got a decent battery now, so it will be fine 😀
    It might work better with a few discharge/recharge cycles.
    I did say Eeeek as you were about to connect that tiny connector with battery voltage on.
    And you changed direction :-D
    Very neat inside that watch and nice connectors.
    Good job as allways jonny.
    Ahh the handy torture device, err the psu i mean lol.

    replaced the battery of my fenix5s to a larger one. initially it charged to 61%, but it wont charge to more than 4% now and will get quite hot when charging. what could i do? :S

    • @JonnyFix
      @JonnyFix  14 днів тому

      I'd put the old one back in and see if it behaves as it used to, if so get a new original size one. If it still gets hot something may have got damaged. It's possible the battery is a dud, see if the heat is coming from that or the watch itself.

    Thanks so much for this video! I have a question however :)
    I was replacing the battery in my 5S as well, found a suitable replacement (many places claim the 5 and 5X batteries will fit in the 5S, but I made sure it was indeed the replacement for P/N 361-00096-00). When I installed it however, I could place it on the charger and have it startup and charge up, but as soon as I unplugged the charger the watch shut off. I thought perhaps it was a bad battery that can't handle a load, but then I got a completely different battery from a different seller with exactly the same result. I can put the old battery in and all works fine, but the two different batteries would not ruin the watch when not plugged into the charging cable.
    Any thoughts? And thanks again! Your video really helped with my getting the one ribbon connector reconnected :)

      If you have a multimeter test the voltage of the new battery. If it's 0 it may have shut down from slow discharge in storage. It should be above 2.5. Would be bad luck to get two dead ones. You could use a power supply to wake it up set at 3.8v current limit 100mA to get some charge into it for a few minutes then watch should be able to charge it. Do this with it disconnected from watch and be sure to get the plus and minus wires the right way or nothing will happen.

      @@JonnyFix Thanks for the response! I have a multimeter but don't have access to a bench supply, and the old battery (that still works but has reduced life) measures 4.04vdc and the one new "bad" battery that is on my bench reads 3.96vdc, so no large difference.
      I mean it WOULD be pretty unlikely to get two bad batteries from different places. So strange.
      Anyway, thanks!

    Hello I replaced my fenix 5s plus back cover because the connector was oxidized. Now my watch works only when plugged in, what could it be? the battery is fully charged but when I unplug the watch it turns itself off. Everything seems alright

    Are you using 99 percent alcohol? Or will 91% work?

    • @JonnyFix
      @JonnyFix  2 роки тому +1

      99 but I"m sure 91 will be fine, the more water content the longer it might take to let go.

    Can't find fitting battery on the internet. Bought one on Aliexpress, but its a bit too long... The one you have is produced in 2017, now the batteries are from 2021. Have anyone managed to mount the one from 2021 with yellow foil and some visible circuit to which connector cable is connected to?

      I'm having the same issue. Did you finally fit a battery from 2021? Any insights on the process and the online seller?
