The Strymon Deco brings the warm, saturated tones and distinctive effects that were formerly only available on vintage analog tape machines and puts these rich tones in compact pedal form. One side of the Deco is dedicated to tape saturation, imbuing your guitar sound with the smooth, fat tone and gently compressed quality of overdriven analog tape, while the other, "Doubletracker" side of the pedal functions like a second virtual tape deck, used to generate classic tape effects like tape flange, chorus, slapback, and up to 500 milliseconds of echo. Its "Lag Time" knob controls the delay offset between the two tape decks, while a blend knob controls relative levels between them. The 3-way "Type" switch alters the phase relationship between these two machines for numerous subtle shades of analog tape tone. To simulate the sound of random speed modulation on the Deco's second deck, there's the "Wobble" control, which can take you from subtle flanging all the way to more extreme, but highly musical, tape modulation effects. As with many of Strymon's feature-packed pedals, the Deco boasts a wide range of hidden functions, including high and low trim tone controls, a boost/cut function, and a wide stereo mode. It also has stereo in and out capabilities, and a jack that can function as an expression input, remote external tap, or favorite switch, for saving a favorite preset. As with all of Strymon's premium effects, the Deco was designed and built in the USA.

About Starship Trooper : This pedal authentically recreates a sound that has eluded me for years. I've tried flangers, choruses, everything. Nothing did it this well.

I would like to be a fly on the wall when this crew is having their first meeting about what song will overtly/subtly demonstrate the strengths of a each pedal. If its all Andy, my lord, you are a master tone alchemist with an encyclopedic knowledge of every guitar sound from the last 50 years. I find myself coming here more and more for inspiration and general good vibes. Bravo PGS crew.

sonny A - I wonder the same thing, especially given the absolute volume of videos Andy churns out! He reminds me of my old College roommate, who was/is disgusting brilliant on guitar, encyclopedic in his knowledge of both music and theory, and not just in an academic sense, the guy can play with anyone. To humor me he used to tell me I was "much better at fingerpicking" than him, but then he went and mastered the banjo practically overnight 😆 He plays in/around Denver with some Alt-Grass groups, he just got to the point where he was bored with guitar. Granted, he doesn't have 5 kids like I do (I stuck to 4-6 hours of playing my guitars every day/night for several years into my first three, but then seriously injured my fretting hand while defending myself from two tweaked-out young punks - yes, they came out of that nasty bit of business far worse than I did, but not being able to play for several years and a lot of VERY painful PT certainly bummed me out for a long time :/ ), but all the same, he's almost certainly going to be a superior guitarist as long as we live!

Nice job. This is the 1st video I've watched from Andy but it's also the first pedal demo I've seen in a while where the pedal is used to demo songs we all know and love. I quite like the Strymon site vids for this pedal too but hearing "You're All I've Got Tonight" by The Cars (and "Starship Troopers") was particularly sweet. Elliott Easton is a highly underrated player.

Da Guvna he plays obscure queens of the stone age sings all the time! as well as back catalogue white stripes and black keys stuff. also a red fang song on the acapulco gold! definitely not classics in the traditional sense. but it depends on what pedals you watch him demo for sure. this one, and basic boosts and generic drives that players want blues and classic rock tones from will elicit those songs for sure! which makes sense :)

Excellent Starship Trooper - nailed the sound of the Yessongs version! I played this in the 70s using fuzz and a phase shifter, but could not get the tone exactly. This pedal was made for it, but credit to Andy for his great ear for tone and effects - and playing. Strymon rules! Wish I could have all their stuff...

Andy is by far the best review guy ever. He approaches every pedal with a, 'hey, I know that sound' and plays songs that we all know.
His amp reviews are killer and do give you an accurate idea of the sound you're going to get.
His playing is equally amazing. Reverb better pay him damn well because he's the best they have and the one I look towards when buying gear. I can't test 99% of what he does because music shops are so rare.
    Thanks Andy... 🤘🍺🍺🍺🍺

Just had to add my dollop of praise for this fantastic demo! It really takes balls to tackle iconic players, tones and riffs head on - and then deliver! Gotta say that it's always bugged me that on any list of guitar heroes, Elliot Easton's name somehow gets left off - his parts and tones are SO singular, and SO compliment the songs they're in (and there are SO many of them, each different from the last) that he's somehow just taken for granted. Oh well - who ever said life was fair? Anyway - congratulations once again, Andy - you pretty much own your corner of the mediasphere. Wait - do spheres even HAVE corners?
