Saw them this past weekend in San Antonio. This was the second song of the night & the place lost it's sh*t when the guitars roared in after Steve started laying down that bad ass bassline. My ex-gf took me b/c she'd never seen the band & had a spare ticket. What blew her away, more than anything, was that Bruce, nearly 40 years after this album, STILL sounded *this* epic!!
It's as if bands don't even sit down with the producers and engineers to create a sound for each instrument and make them come together these days. It feels like there's now a golden standard for how a heavy metal album is supposed to sound, and everybody uses the same "template" for everything. Definitely not as much variety between different bands' sounds these days.
This was the first album that I ever bought. £2 at a car boot sale in 1998 with no album cover, just the silver disc with black triangles. Didn't know what I was letting myself in for. Fast forward 17 years and its Still my favourite album to this day. Every time I listen to a track from this album it takes me back to the summer of 1998. Ahh the memories. \m/
+jerrkyd I thought so too! Almost never bought it. Glad that I did. If there is one defining moment in life where you can say "best £2 I've ever spent" it would have to be this. And now I wait with bated breath in anticipation of the new album.
*Lyrically, musically, spiritually... One of the GREATEST songs ever written in my opinion... Just listen to this with headphones in 🎧 and absorb the greatness here. UP THE IRONS!*
I was what, 16 when this came album came out! Oh how we thought it was so cool that "Eddie" had gone Si-Fi. N all the references hidden in the cover; time is 23:58, Ancient Mariner Seafood Restaurant, The Ruskin Arms with Charlotte the Harlot upstairs, The Tardis, Batman etc and then the music "Somewhere In Time", "Alexander The Great" and of course "Stranger In A Strange Land"! Brilliant! Up the Irons! 🤘🏻
This song has such class, it is so elegantly build up... So much good taste in all its construction. The intro, the pace of the verses, the chorus, the interlude to the solo... The solo, the closing absolutely one of their top songs!
What matters is that it is melodic, emotional, powerful, beautiful, innovative, unique! Simple or not! If it is JUST complicated it doesn’t mean anything! Although maiden do it all simple or not but for the sake of music
'What became of the men that started? All are gone, and, their souls departed! Left me here, in this place, so all alone' (Smith) ... Beautifully written
too bad they never play this one live anymore because it reminds Adrian of his passed away dad. hopefully one day he'll change his mind and honor his father's memory
They played this song on a few shows in the Ed Hunter "Reunion" tour from 1999. Still wonder if they were gonna play this on future shows along with other masterpieces from Somewhere in Time ("Alexander The Great", "Deja Vu", "Sea of Madness")
Describing Iron Maiden is like trying to describe the band RUSH. They are the best at what they do and they have raised the bar so high that most aspiring musicians will forever be reaching for that bar. People call RUSH progressive rock or whatever but its not. RUSH is just RUSH and no one else even comes close. Same with Maiden. They are master storytellers that just happen to be proficient as hell on whatever instrument it is they play and they have created a style all their own. Three badass guitar players that vary in style. A bass player like Geddy Lee in that he writes and plays the bass in his very own style. And as for Nicko Mcbrain? A drummer that you can pick out in the first couple notes of a song. I've seen Iron Maiden 8 times and I can't wait for the 9th.
Rush were progressive but evolved beyond that on their musical journey. Very Happy memories of meeting Rush on the signals and R30 tours and fortunate enough to also meet Maiden at the now defunct Mayfair ballrooms in Newcastle upon Tyne after seeing their somewhere in time tour at the city hall. Absolute gentlemen and Steve Harrris got the beers in. Absolute legend. So a big smile on my face everytime I hear songs off this album.
One of, if not the tastiest guitar solos I've heard. I'm 55, been alot of places, seen alot of things, and heard much. And to everyone, I say, this is one of, if not the tastiest guitar solo ever. Not to mention the unmatched talent of the gentlemen we all know as IRON MAIDEN. Y'all fuckin ROCK.
This is one of my favorite Maiden tunes. The guitar riff in this just rips, the vocals from Bruce just carry the tune to this awesome place. Iron Maiden fucking rule.

The tickets over here in Ft worth were 200.😢At least Judas Priest wasn't that price bad!!Jeez
3:20 - 4:25 That minute gives me the chills every FUCKING time...UP THE IRONS!
You know I’ve heard and listed many bands as my “favorites” but Iron Maiden will always be my number 1 Band. I can listen to these guys all day
I wish post 2000 Maiden albums sounded like this (production wise)... What a difference
Sounds so fresh after all these decades
It's as if bands don't even sit down with the producers and engineers to create a sound for each instrument and make them come together these days. It feels like there's now a golden standard for how a heavy metal album is supposed to sound, and everybody uses the same "template" for everything. Definitely not as much variety between different bands' sounds these days.
This is the most true comment ive ever seen
armando salazar I must say, I agree with you on that one !!
Totally agree, I don't know why they don't get someone else then Kevin Shirley
Never knew they had a video for this!?!? Looks pretty much when I saw the on this tour. I still have the T-shirt...
somewhere in time = adrian smith
YES, I've always said that!
Somewhere in Time = all the band in their golden years
@@Rene.A.D And those years certainly weren't wasted years!
Yeeaaa!!!! The best and most elaborated album
3:18 Happy Birthday Mr. Adrian Smith for his 63th anniversary 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
How can people dislike this masterpiece.. I can't believe... it's sooooo beautiful... I just can't describe in words, I'm simply speechless!
This song is total masterpiece!!! :)))
Somewhere in Time and Seventh best Maiden albums.
That's freakin awesome. What a great first album to have purchased.
+jerrkyd I thought so too! Almost never bought it. Glad that I did. If there is one defining moment in life where you can say "best £2 I've ever spent" it would have to be this. And now I wait with bated breath in anticipation of the new album.
Somewhere in Time is in my top 3 favourite Maiden albums!!! Great Album!!
Wickie235, same here. Amazing. This was my 1st ever album and I was 12 at the time (1987)
WickWah hi
"Somewhere In Time" was Maiden at their very peak and their absolute best.!! 🔥🔥
*Lyrically, musically, spiritually... One of the GREATEST songs ever written in my opinion... Just listen to this with headphones in 🎧 and absorb the greatness here. UP THE IRONS!*
Indeed this song is like:
Yeah yeah.. just take my soul.. let departed as the souls frim that song please... don't shut up, but take my soul 😂
🤘🏻
3:50 The way Adrian goes for the solo is amazing.
Criminally underrated Maiden track
I come for that bass solo every time and leave happy every time. So melodic and beautiful. That is what I imagine paradise to sound like.
I hope that Iron Maiden albums will be that only thing, which would be found by future civilizations in the dust of time....
What a solo from Adrian
Another great song by Adrian Smith.
the best band of all universe history

Greatest range. Greatest band in the galaxy. You find Maiden all over the map.
This song has such class, it is so elegantly build up... So much good taste in all its construction.
The intro, the pace of the verses, the chorus, the interlude to the solo... The solo, the closing absolutely one of their top songs!
The bass line of Steve Harris in this song is hands down the greatest of Iron Maiden!
Perfectly written masterpiece... a song for all time.
This is why maiden

getting ready for new tour - up the irons !
This is quite possibly the GREATEST & MOST BEAUTIFUL guitar solo ever played...Adrian nailed it PERFECT!!!
Much love from Mobile Alabama.
I think the most beautiful guitar solo Adrian ever played are either 22 Acacia Avenue or Coming Home! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL guitar solos!!!!!! 🎼🎵🎶🎸❤
One of the most unforgettable guitar riffs ever. Simple but so effective and beautiful to the ears.
What matters is that it is melodic, emotional, powerful, beautiful, innovative, unique! Simple or not! If it is JUST complicated it doesn’t mean anything! Although maiden do it all simple or not but for the sake of music
You gotta love Adrian's solo, brilliant guitarist!
'What became of the men that started? All are gone, and, their souls departed! Left me here, in this place, so all alone' (Smith) ... Beautifully written
This is one of the best metal songs ever!!
WHAT MASTERPIECE IS THIS!!! THE Classic song, from the most awesome Heavy Metal decade, the 80's!
That solo section is utterly epic. It lasts for a minute as well. On par with Demonaz's Under The Great Fires guitar solo. It kicks in at 3mins 44sec.
One of the most badass riffs ever
Wasted years is better
too bad they never play this one live anymore because it reminds Adrian of his passed away dad. hopefully one day he'll change his mind and honor his father's memory
Really where did you hear this?
In an interview
As a fan of both RUSH and Maiden, definitely voiced more in RUSH, I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one.
Whole heartedly agree with you on the Maiden part. As for the Rush part, you heard King Crimson?
One of, if not the tastiest guitar solos I've heard. I'm 55, been alot of places, seen alot of things, and heard much. And to everyone, I say, this is one of, if not the tastiest guitar solo ever. Not to mention the unmatched talent of the gentlemen we all know as IRON MAIDEN. Y'all fuckin ROCK.
This is one of my favorite Maiden tunes. The guitar riff in this just rips, the vocals from Bruce just carry the tune to this awesome place. Iron Maiden fucking rule.
