I think what made Eleven's exit so much more powerful than Ten's was that it wasn't trying to be sad. It was triumphant. Eleven accomplished so much in his time but his moment was over. He embraced his final curtain, and that's why it was emotional. He accepted it while we still can't.
It wasn't more sad than 10's at all. they were both sad in different ways. A triumphant ending isn't more or less sad it is just different. Also let's remember they are the same man always, but at different points in his life. 10 was sad because unlike 11 he didn't get to do so much more. 11 maxed out his lifespan to the fullest whilst's 10's was cut short due to self-sacrifice
Steven K Ellingham Elevens exit was kind of powerful, but imo, it was nowhere near as powerful as Tens as Moffatt was still onboard for Doctor number 12. When Ten left, it was powerful because he closed the chapter on the best era, with the best actors and plot lines and we bid farewell to RTD, the Tenth Doctor, Donna, Wilf, Martha, Mickey, Sarah Jane, Jack, and Rose and Jackie for the final time. All people who Moffatt just forgot about for the entirety of his run

After watching so much of The show, I promised I will always be there for my familes and friends until the day they die. Pain and loss, they define us as much as happiness or love. Come to think about it, it's a direct reply to 10th's "I don't wanna go". He is no more afraid of regeneration, he is okay with how he will look and how he will be, because it will still be the same person he was before. And God, did some dissatisfied folks waited a lot of time for a speech like this since Tennant's regeneration!
I can't stop listening to this, because of how it just brings back all of the memories of Smith; the good times and the bad. But yet, doing so is breaking my heart. Smith wasn't a perfect Doctor, but he certainly left an everlasting impact on me. And I suppose...I will always remember when he was the Doctor.

The first time I heard the Long Song I thought it would be perfect to accompany a regeneration. Plus by the time Rings of Akhaten aired it was common knowledge that Matt Smith was on his way out so I'm sure the song was written with that in mind.

I was thrilled when they used this as his song. When I heard the Long Song (Wake up from Rings) I wanted that to be it...but the subtle undertone of that melody along with the moving strings part just brings it together perfectly.

Come to think about it, it's a direct reply to 10th's "I don't wanna go". He is no more afraid of regeneration, he is okay with how he will look and how he will be, because it will still be the same person he was before. I can't stop listening to this, because of how it just brings back all of the memories of Smith; the good times and the bad.
But yet, doing so is breaking my heart. Smith wasn't a perfect Doctor, but he certainly left an everlasting impact on me.

The first time I heard the Long Song I thought it would be perfect to accompany a regeneration. Plus by the time Rings of Akhaten aired it was common knowledge that Matt Smith was on his way out so I'm sure the song was written with that in mind.

This song also accompanied a great companion's defining moment. This song properly welcomed Clara Oswald and bid a fond farewell to the 11th Doctor. I love how this (regeneration) music sounds a lot like the music Amy and Rory left on different but with similar structure when listening to them at the same time. Interesting.
