A mix of power ballad and metal, I'll never let you go by Steelheart is among the best of the era. Lead singer Miljenko Matijevic's voice is legendary but this song is a showcase of his talent. His range, power and pitch are among the best the music world has ever seen. Alexis's is similar to many of us the first time we heard this band, amazed!

The onstage accident that happened to Mili was very unfortunate. There is a video on UA-cam that was uploaded from original footage from someone in the crowd that night. It was horrific and Mili is lucky to be alive. His voice has never been the same due to the neck and throat injury he received. Even with that, recovery, therapy, learning how to eat and talk again let alone sing ... he still destroys 85% of any singer since that time. The guy is a once in a generational talent (i.e. edward van halen guitar for a vocalist). The reason why Steelheart never hit it big was because of timing. They came in at the ass end of the hair metal scene months before Grunge took over the world. If this guy dropped in 85', this comment wouldn't exist. Eat your heart out Halford, Dickinson, Tate, Dio.

There was quite a bit of pushback against Steelheart among the metal community pretty much from the start. They burst onto the scene with what really is an incredibly generic ballad in a genre which was increasingly becoming known for generic ballads. Not taking a single thing away from Mili's insane vocals on the track, we were just burned out on this style of song at the time.

Thanks for sharing this song. I never forgot Steelheart, but what a set of pipes. You never realize someone's talent as much as when I heard this song for a second time. Again thanks for the share. I gu4ss I have another download to make.

FYI Lead Singer Miljenko Matijevic was known as Mike Matijevic when this song came out. He started using his real Croatian name of Miljenko sometime in the 90's. 😁

This band is fantastic and will never be equaled. James Durbin has covered She's Gone and did a great job. He is able to do the yoga moves that Miljenko does.

She's Gone is an amazing ballad, in the acoustic version, but give the full tilt arrangement a listen. His voice, with the electric guitars behind him and thunderous drums, will really pound at your chest.

I saw Steelheart in November of 1992 right before they hit big and then fell off due to the accident. It was two weeks before. I still love this band and will be seeing them after 32 years in October. Can't wait.

With Miljenko Matijevic you get what you hear .Like you said before in the 80's and 90's we had a lot of studio singers and when you went to see them live it was like a different singer . And if i remember right he is the only male singer that can hit a continuous high level 6 octave range ( it starts at 11:15 on your video) and he is the only male to hit the last short note at the very end of that range without studio help.

There are sooo many great songs from the 70's and 80's that I could recommend. They are all well known and well loved songs. Sooo many that I can relate to on a personal level. So, one of those personal songs that I will recommend, that is also seemingly not well known or talked about much is Faster Pussycat's House Of Pain. Great song and I think you will both enjoy it. Burch...you may or may not know it but I know Alexis doesn't know it.

Great song choice for a reaction. Thank you for giving it a thumbs up. I first heard it in 92 on the radio and immediately called the station and asked who it was. The guy said Steelheart and I said, "who?" Then I bought the cassette and wore it out. I was listening to Slaughter, Helloween, King Diamond, Skid Row at the time but had never heard those upper register notes with such "oomph!" Not until Miljenko.

'Tragic tale of rock' in their hayday, Millie suffered a freak and tragic accident, when a spot light suspended above the stage came lose and dropped, hitting him in the side of the face and breaking his jaw. That was a long recovery for a singer, who uses his mouth to make a living!!

I was born the same time as Miljenko and I believe my generation loved long hair on guys and I still do. There's something so wild indian looking about guys with long hair and then when they look and sound as good as Miljenko, what can I say. I want to put a poster up in my room again! Hes one of those singers who'll become a legend one day. He is already.
