    Well, here we go again. I realized that My Favorite Martian had a lot of bloopers in it as well and I figured I'd go ahead and do a series on this show. So sit back, relax and enjoy!

    The real blooper from Season 1 occurred on the first seven episodes, in which the copyright date during the closing credits was misprinted as "MCMXLIII" (1943).

    I was a big fan of this show and I pestered my late dad to make me a set of martian antennae, he went into his work shed and made them out of metal wire..I remember that they looked good and were quite comfortable to wear..thanks dad.

    You must understand that it was a long time ago. Everything was analog, a 2 transistor radio was a big deal. Stop motion animation was THE big thing. The Gemini missions had just started and we were into anything space. We wanted to believe, so our minds just tuned out what we wanted.

      Trust me I know. But it's still fun to look back and see how they had to do things back then and how they were able to get away with a lot of stuff since we were watching on small TVs. I totally respect how much work went into making shows like this back in the day. But even as a kid I noticed a lot of these things.

    Ray Walston was a very kind person in real life. I’ve read stories from those who met him in the 60’s when this show was on the air. One person said he saw him at a drive in restaurant and he actually sat down with his family and spent a half hour talking with them while he ate.
    The 50’s and 60’s were a great time for tv. Mister Ed,Twilight Zone,Lost in Space,Stingray,Thunderbirds,Star Trek. It’s too bad we don’t have shows like these anymore.
    The dog in the one episode was also used in Andy Griffith and other shows. I believe he was one of Frank Inns animals.

    Thanks for the video I always was a big fan of my favorite Martian!! I feel that back in the 60s and very early 70s. Every show was so unique and since the mid 80s onward you can plug-in anybody any nationality to do the act the scripts because they’re also mishmash now. The television shows for much more creative back in the day.

    This series is severely underrated. Incidentally, I watched this series entirely in Japanese, and the voice actors made a tremendous effort to make this show a success. Many Japanese of my generation fondly remember My Favorite Martian, although I believe it was titled "Bravo Kaseijin (Martian)" since there was not a good equivalent for "My Favorite Martian" in Japan. I can't remember how they handled the mixup between "Martian' and "Martin" in the Japanese language version.

    It's nice to see that you're back with more of the behind the scenes oddities. Billy Blackburn was probably the most interesting character actor who never said a word yet conveyed so much. I saw his home movies from Star Trek which were really entertaining. By the way, Ray Walston and David White were in the movie "The Apartment" as Jack Lemmon"s co-workers who used his apartment for their shenanigans. Thanks for your video; look forward to the next one.

    I can’t remember if I actually had a trick lightbulb like that when I was a kid? I might just remember it from a Johnson Smith catalog, or from a shop at the local mall that sold a lot of those Adams brand tricks and other JS-like junk? Anyway I remember a plastic lightbulb with metal bottom parts, and the bottom screwed off to put in a AA battery. It came with a plain metal ring you put on your finger. When you touched the ring across from the threaded part to the end of the bulb it would light up. On a hunch I just looked on eBay and found several different kinds, both vintage ones and modern ones. Of course everybody remembers Uncle Fester with a lightbulb that would light up when he put it in his mouth on the Addams Family. That would be a fun show to see mistakes from too.

    In the episode My Nephew The Artist; in the 1st scene of Martin at the Art Gallery, if you'll look closely at one of the paintings on the gallery wall, you'll notice that it's the same painting that hung over the bed of Ricky Ricardo in I Love Lucy. Not too surprising when you consider MFM was shot at Desilu studios.

    Very good work. I think My Favorite Martian could have actually been filmed completely in black and white. The color stipulation for all series came into effect in the fall of 1966. Which was at the end of the series. But some shows started to film in color in the fall of 1965. The series started out strong in the ratings and started to fall as it went on. I believe they starting filming in color to try to recapture some of its ratings. If the series had gone on to a 4th season Ray Walston's character would have been cut back to a Guest Star capacity. It would have revolved around his nephew and Tim.

    • @outsider238
      @outsider238  2 роки тому +1

      Very interesting! I had a feeling they were planning on taking the show in a different direction by adding Andromeda to the cast. I got the feeling Ray Walston didn't really like doing the show. I'm currently working on the season 3 video.

    I thought the first oddity was the complete mismatch between the space suit and space ship between the animated intro and the show. I always suspected the artist was given a rough description and finished without seeing any filming.

    • @outsider238
      @outsider238  Рік тому +1

      So true! They're completely different. I'm sure you're correct as the animation probably had to be done way far in advance of filming. Plus budgetary issues might have come into play and they ended up going with a much more simpler space suit.

    The reason My Favorite Martian went color in it's last season was because 1965 was the season all networks embraced 100% scheduled NTSC color.
