such a shame that little Brown dress is not as universal (too memorable). it took me years to realize that a PLAIN khaki or dark beige can be MY little "black" dress.
@@esharoth7186 it may be frustrating for us, but it is ALSO freeing to stop trying to make something work on us that looks so good on others. ahhh the freedom of no black clothes! so proud you were able to let go of things that did not suit you.
Bcz brown or khaki or beige doesn't go with every skin tone, it's not the most universal color. I personally find brown color ugly, and one of the worst colors any person could wear, while beige will washes out most of the ppl. I don't have any piece of clothes in that colors, and will never have because it doesn't look good on me.
@@galaxsee black looks HIDEOUS on me, whilst brown brings me to life! as a freckly, green-eyed, redhead, i have to "let go" of what looks good on others and find what works for me. browns and all the autumnal colors work for many people for whom black and even navy are too overpowering. glad you have found what flatters you.
This year I splurged on the perfect LBD. It was an Eileen Fisher velvet dress and fit my pear shape perfectly at the level just under the knee, long sleeve (not tight) and skims perfectly over my body with rounded neckline and pearl closure behind the neck and at wrists. Sooo happy as I will wear this for many years ❤️
Thank you. Would you take this one step further and show some ideal tops or jackets to wear with the sleeveless dresses? I am likely not alone in living in a cold climate and/ or running cold anyway. Sometimes the coverups women wear with dresses make them look dowdy so I would love some ideas.
My mom looked so beautiful in her LBD! She was going to wear it to a dinner party. (My daddy was wearing his dress uniform.) Mom’s dress was very plain. My dad pulled a box out of his pocket. He’d bought her a pearl ring, and a two strand pearl necklace. Not PLAIN ANY MORE!
I enjoy your videos very much. Thank you for your well researched information. I wanted to give a gentle reminder in response to your statements at about 4:08 minutes into your video. Everyone does not want their legs to look slimmer. Some ladies, particularly in many African American communities and other cultures as well enjoy showing off their thicker limbs. Keep doing great things and I wish you continued success!
I enjoyed this video. A black sheath in a quality crepe or ponte fabric, wIth a rounded neckline, and length just below the knee is my idea of a universal LBD.
Great Aly! I’ve been on the hunt for years for a replacement of my LBD, which I outgrew. Type of fabric is So Important for me. I can’t wear synthetics anymore. Thank you thank you.
I think I bought 6 LBD’s this year ISO that ONE staple piece! I always end up unhappy with them. I’ve tried budget to semi high end. They’re either too short (like for juniors), too long, too revealing, bad or cheap fabric, strange neckline, etc. Can be frustrating
If you are a soft season (which could be why black doesn't flatter you), charcoal or coffee brown maybe some nice alternatives! Charcoal if you are cooler, brown if warmer... You can also try navy or forest green !
As a SN, the neckline you chose would not be flattering at all. Too high and it would compress my large bust. If I had to choose one between all the examples, I would choose the slightly flowy spaghetti strap dress you've shown before. But I would make it dark grey/brown because as a summer, I'm allergic to black 😂
Little black dress is different then Basic black dress. It can have more avante garde necklines etc. It's Little. Black. And a dress. If it's got that it's got that. Longer, less embelished dresses can be the basic black dress.
I wear wide-legged pants or maxi dresses because I have what some call “cankles.” I look for dresses that come in at waist and that flatter my upper body ie draw the eye up.
A classic small black dress is different than a black dress. Same as a Chanel style jacket is different than just a jacket. Not only versatility but it lasts through centuries. Don't look like those examples are correct on the topic.
Why is sweetheart neckline not mentioned?🥹 and I find it the most flattering, at least for my shape. I think it's so beautiful and feminine, doesn't have to be too revealing, but that shape gives so much softness :) I am so sad you can barely find it anywhere these days, if anyone has a recommendation for where to find it (dresses, tops) in Europe, please do share 😊

And harder to find!
I agree. I got rid of all my black dresses after coming to the realization that I look awful in black.

had exactly the same thought!

This video was simply fabulous! I learned a lot! I can hardly wait for Part 2!

great video Aly!!! thank you!
So interesting and well thought out, dear Aly. As always.

Simplicity is key 😊.
Yaayy I suggested this!🥳 Thank you sooooooo much for doing these videos 😍❤ and it's so informative as always!
This is sooo interesting and helpful!! Thanks Aly again ❤
And I’d like to have a dress that Coco’s original dress (or the same kind 😅)!

Can't wait for the next video.
First comment, hooray! Great video as always. Thank you 😊 ❤
Again, a great video!😊 you are the best!

I must say that I enjoyed this video very well!
Where should the basic LBD end to be universal and flattering at the same time if one has x or o shape legs?
Always sharing the best info on style. TY❤️🥰
Very helpful video!!! Thank you, Aly! ❤❤❤
Thanks Aly🥰🥰🥰
hmm. I like the video but I'm missing the kibbe types. That would have been great addition :)
6:52 I'm that type of woman.. Wide rib cage, short neck, ... more like a soft natural - what should I war?
I agree
Great video!
I'll be waiting your next video, a plus size romantic here
Great video looking forward to pure romantics ' dress ❤😊
Thank you for super informative videos Aly! What do you do if you look terrible in black? I am a very petite older hourglass. X0❤
If you are a soft season (which could be why black doesn't flatter you), charcoal or coffee brown maybe some nice alternatives! Charcoal if you are cooler, brown if warmer...
You can also try navy or forest green !
I stop buying black dresses. Its overwhelming me. Instead looking for cool brown, dark gray dress
Thanks girls, I'm 70 and I remember my Mother telling me black doesn't suit my skin tone.
Don't use black. You are not loosing anything if doesn't suit you.
But where can you buy the last one?

Hi Aly, you mentioned, that you arent soft gamine, so, whats your body type?
I think she's an FG
Just speculation
She said she is a Soft Gamine actually.
WTH is 'wide bones'?
è scura ma adorabile❤
I know what kind of black dress would suit my figure and age. I just can't sew and cant afford to to have it made.
I think you forgot halter type
At 9:43 she talks about a high collar halter neck

Hello
Aly l love your videos about Kibbe body types.
Go on to this ❤❤
I wear wide-legged pants or maxi dresses because I have what some call “cankles.” I look for dresses that come in at waist and that flatter my upper body ie draw the eye up.
Maybe try A- line? It could give you ilussion more slim calves
I'm opposite. My legs are slimmest, but my upper arms and belly aren't flattering
I relate, and also like wearing boots of all kinds!
❤
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
🐸✌️💜yaay
My idea is that LBD should NOT have decorations. That’s the point with it.
