I haven't been in one since 2008, and as the years go by, the idea of being in one just seems more and more foreign. It's this constant match up of the loneliness versus the implications a relationship proposes. The loneliness has prevailed between the two for almost a decade now.

The ONLY time I EVER turn the TV on is in the morning for the weather as I get ready for work or if a hockey game is on that I can't get on NHL.TV. That is it. I get all my news from internet. I watch all my "shows" on the internet. I have never been a "mainstream" guy. Not by choice, just the way I'm wired. When kids were going nuts over Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5 and Elvis, I was listening to Leon Russell and Jim Croce, The Allman Brothers and The Grateful Dead. I was like 8, 9. I did watch cartoons on TV till they took all the good ones off and replaced them with shit. That was in the 80S. I never got into Seinfeld, Friends, none of that garbage, ever. I did watch a local TV show when I was a kid called Barnaby. He talked to imaginary people, he showed cartoon clips of Mighty Mouse, Underdog, had skits for kids. He was a trippy dude. By junior high I skipped a lot of school and I'd get friends together and we'd buy beers and smoke weed and drink beer and watch Barnaby. This was pre cable so we'd watch soaps too and talk about which chics we'd do. Other than that not much of a TV guy. Shows like yours are what I watch. One thing that really comes across on the screen from you is your genuineness, honesty, and realness. I have been a hockey fan my entire life. I never played organized hockey. 13 years of pond hockey experience but no real, organized, hockey. I played two sports and excelled in both. Gave one up at 12 to concentrate full time on the other. I ended up turning pro and for 5 years chased a ghost of a dream. When I look back, from the age 8 to 24 I got an education Harvard and Yale can't teach. I got to meet a lot of hockey players because of the field I was in which was cool. Jeff Beaukaboom of the Rangers stands out as a cool dude. He came to a gym I was at in NYC once. I have only had two girlfriends, per say, my entire adult life. Don't get me wrong, I've had tons of wives but they've all had to get home to their husbands. I was a gym rat from 15 to 24. from San Antonio to San Diego to Pleasantville to Mt Julian to Brockton to Indy to a shit load of other places. Kinda hard to find a woman dumb enough to live like that. I did meet a girl after my fighting days. I hitch hiked to Georgia from upstate NY to see where the Allman Brothers came from and to eat Mama Louise's fried chicken. I met a fat girl with a dog, a black lab, named Holliday, at a cemetery and with lived with her for 6 months. We had sex and she grew to hate me so I'll call that a girlfriend. I have a girlfriend now. Been with her 14 years. I had just got off work and was waiting for a guy I worked with to bring me a bag of weed when I met her. She had a dog, too. German Shepherd, named Sassy. I had a dog, Cocker, named Sam, at this time. The dogs got along so she let me come over. She was stupid! Sassy and Sam are dead now. Sassy had sarcoma and we had to have her put to sleep. She was 10. Sam was 15 and a half when we had to have her put down. We lived together for 12 years but I moved my mom here from another state and got an apartment with her. My mom is in the early stages of dementia and it's better this way. As far as hair bands they all suck in my opinion. I will say this, Triumph is a good band. They had some substance behind their music. also, about 6, 7, years ago my mom met Gil Moore. She had no idea who he was but he told her. she said he was a very nice guy. I am from the northeast and I live in a hillbilly state. Don't ask me why I came here and quit drinking and got my shit together but this is it! Living here, I have been able to get an understanding that I am not The Creator and let things play out before forcing an issue, In being able to do that I have met the most amazing woman on the planet! She has NEVER been on skates and HATES my music. However, if I need her, she is there. If she needs me, I am there QUICK. I had always seen this video on UA-cam, but never wanted to watch it cause I was single and miserable. But I have recently found an amazing person, also online dating. Your story is sooooo relatable. Like Shannon I didn't care how my profile looked, I was 100 percent me. I said hi to her and in my mind was like man i do hope she messages me back. Few days later she says hi back, it was just instant click. She wanted to meet the following weekend for just a coffee date, now I have a personal thing with coffee dates that they are just death traps. Like if it goes bad it goes bad quick. We sat there for 3 1/2 hours and just talked and laughed. That day we each deactivated our accounts cause we knew. Didn't officially date afterwards, but were no longer looking. Just over 3 months later we're going to buy a place together and couldn't be happier

I had zero luck with women until I was 23 when I got my first girlfriend (2 weeks, online dating), Then my second girlfriend (4 weeks, online dating), Then my 3rd girlfriend (6 weeks, online dating), Then my 4th girlfriend (8 weeks, online dating, Left me for another guy who she married 2 months later), all of this between 2008 and 2010 then I got a new room mate who kept bringing her best friend over to the house and then we all went to a mutual friends birthday party and when my room mates friend was laughing at my jokes and generally seemed to not be totally anti me I did something so out of character and I kissed her. Flash forward 10 years, we dated for almost 2, and have been married since 2012 and have a 1.5 year old son. I have no idea what possessed me that night, but it was the best choice I ever made. and hey she puts up with me wanting to monopolize the TV for Canucks games and puts up with my desire to have 11 game consoles connected to the living room TV
My wife and I had a patch of being apart went on our first date since after that and it was escape the fate, we came as romans and I prevail. Best first dates or first dates again are concerts. I prevail is her favorite band while we came as romans in mine

It's funny that this popped up into my feed today. I'd just randomly had the thought of wondering how you two met and UA-cam provided! Shannon, your reticence on relationships really resonated with me...either avoiding them or sabotaging the ones that might be good for you because you "know" you'll screw it up anyway. Love this video, and you're both very lucky to have one another. I've had a tough time in this area over the last 6 years... My long-term girlfriend passed away with a genetic heart condition. 4 years later, and girl who I had known for 16 years asked me out... she was perfect at first, but 6 months later she monkey-branched and cheated with a huge player. Because of this, I dumped her, and eventually she realized that the guy she was with cheated on her (huge surprise), so she attempted to come back, but I wasn't having it. I'm with someone else now, and she seems amazing, but we're taking it slowly. Hopefully I can look back years down the road and we'll still be together and happy.

True story: my next door neighbor got interested in a girl who worked behind the counter at a Rite-Aid. He asked me to "back him up" one night while he walked in to ask this girl out. He asked her, and she responded with "No... I really consider you a friend, and I don't go out romantically with my friends." Without missing a half a beat, I moved forward and positioned myself in front of my friend, and said to the girl, "Well, I'm not your friend. How about I pick you up Saturday at 8?" And... she agreed. When we walked out of the Rite-Aid, he was so overwhelmed by what I'd done he just laughed - he couldn't be pissed he said, he just was impressed by my fast jump--in. I told him I was going to help him get her, which I did, by doubling with the girl, my friend and one of his ex-girlfriends that we were both platonic friends with. Eventually they got together.... then she decided her initial rejection was the right move. LOL
I have to say it struck me when Shannon said 'When things are going good, I expect something bad to happen.' My Lord, I'm like that as well, but in my case it's true. LOL. I'll give you an example. I witnessed a horrific accident and I was the first to pull over and as the 1st responders arrived somehow I had earned enough respect that they were actually listening to me. People told me I saved their lives, but to me, I was just being me and did nothing special. But, after they brought in a copter to airlift the people. As a medical person was washing the blood off my hands and arm, one cop came over, and with a wink and a nod, says to me "Listen, I won't open the highway for another 10 minutes So DON'T GO ALL SPEED RACER" I get in my car to leave and...the car won't start LOL LOL. I was like Really God? WTF? I just helped two people you can't throw me a bone?

I had zero luck with women until I was 23 when I got my first girlfriend (2 weeks, online dating), Then my second girlfriend (4 weeks, online dating), Then my 3rd girlfriend (6 weeks, online dating), Then my 4th girlfriend (8 weeks, online dating, Left me for another guy who she married 2 months later), all of this between 2008 and 2010 then I got a new room mate who kept bringing her best friend over to the house and then we all went to a mutual friends birthday party and when my room mates friend was laughing at my jokes and generally seemed to not be totally anti me I did something so out of character and I kissed her. Flash forward 10 years, we dated for almost 2, and have been married since 2012 and have a 1.5 year old son.
I have no idea what possessed me that night, but it was the best choice I ever made.
and hey she puts up with me wanting to monopolize the TV for Canucks games and puts up with my desire to have 11 game consoles connected to the living room TV

My wife and I had a patch of being apart went on our first date since after that and it was escape the fate, we came as romans and I prevail. Best first dates or first dates again are concerts. I prevail is her favorite band while we came as romans in mine

It's funny that this popped up into my feed today. I'd just randomly had the thought of wondering how you two met and UA-cam provided! Shannon, your reticence on relationships really resonated with me...either avoiding them or sabotaging the ones that might be good for you because you "know" you'll screw it up anyway. The interaction between you two is a real joy to see and I'm happy for the both of you.

Love this video, and you're both very lucky to have one another. I've had a tough time in this area over the last 6 years... My long-term girlfriend passed away with a genetic heart condition. 4 years later, and girl who I had known for 16 years asked me out... she was perfect at first, but 6 months later she monkey-branched and cheated with a huge player. Because of this, I dumped her, and eventually she realized that the guy she was with cheated on her (huge surprise), so she attempted to come back, but I wasn't having it. I'm with someone else now, and she seems amazing, but we're taking it slowly. Hopefully I can look back years down the road and we'll still be together and happy.

True story: my next door neighbor got interested in a girl who worked behind the counter at a Rite-Aid. He asked me to "back him up" one night while he walked in to ask this girl out. He asked her, and she responded with "No... I really consider you a friend, and I don't go out romantically with my friends." Without missing a half a beat, I moved forward and positioned myself in front of my friend, and said to the girl, "Well, I'm not your friend. How about I pick you up Saturday at 8?" And... she agreed. When we walked out of the Rite-Aid, he was so overwhelmed by what I'd done he just laughed - he couldn't be pissed he said, he just was impressed by my fast jump--in. I told him I was going to help him get her, which I did, by doubling with the girl, my friend and one of his ex-girlfriends that we were both platonic friends with. Eventually they got together.... then she decided her initial rejection was the right move. LOL
I have to say it struck me when Shannon said 'When things are going good, I expect something bad to happen.' My Lord, I'm like that as well, but in my case it's true. LOL. I'll give you an example. I witnessed a horrific accident and I was the first to pull over and as the 1st responders arrived somehow I had earned enough respect that they were actually listening to me. People told me I saved their lives, but to me, I was just being me and did nothing special. But, after they brought in a copter to airlift the people. As a medical person was washing the blood off my hands and arm, one cop came over, and with a wink and a nod, says to me "Listen, I won't open the highway for another 10 minutes So DON'T GO ALL SPEED RACER" I get in my car to leave and...the car won't start LOL LOL. I was like Really God? WTF? I just helped two people you can't throw me a bone?
