Most likely got sucked into the tanker ship wake, got dragged along the side of the tanker, took on water, and unfortunately looks like it went under and through one of the props.

If you would, clarify how you came to identify this series of events. I do not disagree, I would just like to know more.... Could they have applied throttle and avoided the first part? Or were they doomed by proximity?

So sorry to see this. I was involved in a near miss on June 3rd. Before sunrise taxiing out beyond the port A marina. We were looking forward and a tanker nearly hit us from behind. No lights or horn. The pilot boat was behind the tanker and quickly came around after we bolted to safety.

moon set at 2am and sun up at apox 6am ,, super dark nite before sunrise - accident possibly happened before sunrise , prop ship hit the boat most likely- I hit a jetty in super dark nite because I was off 100 feet from my position . I only had 900 boat trips without an incident then it happened .

Oil is sold to the highest bidder on the world market and oil in the ground doesn't earn interest until it is converted to cash. Drilling doesn't happen until the market needs more oil and the price is high enough to cover the expenses of discovering, drilling and producing it. When prices get too high it becomes cost effective for users to use alternative forms of energy. That is how the world's producers decide how much to put on the market. The more they put up for sale the lower the price becomes until it is not worth drilling for more. The less they put on the market the higher the price becomes until it becomes cheaper to use other forms of energy.

Our refineries cannot process domestically produced oil. We can only refine the oil that we import, and oil companies are not going to build new refineries.
