    Roger's closed guard = game over

    At 2:00, that's a brand new Koral Gi that Roger just ripped the sleeve off of O.O. Robert Drysdale commented later: "He was pulling against my sleeve, and I had my hand on his collar with a pretty good grip, and he kept pulling. I thought to myself, “You’re crazy, you’re never going to get my arm out of there”. It was stuck on his collar and it wasn’t going to move. And he kept pulling until he ripped my gi. I have never seen that before. That’s amazing when you think about it. How many people can do that? It’s not like it’s used or anything, it was brand new. The guy is incredibly strong. It may not look like it, but he’s a freak."

    "Proving that jiu jitsu is a chess game"... and that it also helps to have giant legs! Roger Gracie has amazing jiu jitsu, but the advantage of his attributes really shows in these absolute matches. Who else can close their guard over the opponent's inserted knee?

      Every great Athlete had both talent and physical advantage over the others competitors.
      Mike Tyson had shoulders so strong that his head barely moves when punched.
      Ted rinne have great judo AND also a very tall and strong body.
      Same with Phelps.
      My point is, may athletes born with talent and work their asses to be the bests at their sports, but there is some of these that also born with physical advantages that take then to another level.
      (Sorry for any incorrect word or grammar concordance, I'm Brazilian).

      Lucas Batista yes and there are disadvantages to those body types too that have to be accounted for, Mike Tyson does not have a long reach so he must operate inside, Teddy Riner cannot as easily do throws like Seoi Nage that require getting under the opponent and as far as Phelps goes he has to move all that mass through the water quickly

    That was a very good match. One thing I have noticed in general; taller guys sometimes forget to use their height as an advantage however, when they learn to drop the hips and get their opponent at a leverage disadvantage it is a beautiful thing to see. Roger is slightly taller and dropped the hips constantly to have the leverage without exerting a lot of energy to combat his opponent. Once again a very good match.

      Chandiwira Beza wow I didn’t know that ...roger beat him easily imo

    • @FraldinhoBJJ
      @FraldinhoBJJ 4 роки тому +1

      David Dugan I mean has 10-20lbs Of muscle and an inch or two of height on drysdale in this fight . He technically should have won .
      People are so scared of making mistakes against roger they maybe try 70-80% on him and he takes advantage of it. If he wants a grip he pretends he doesn’t . If he doesn’t want you to have a grip he tries to pretend to be ambivalent .
      Roger wins psychologically before he ever chokes you. All he does is stay in position where you can’t use angles or leverage or grips against you and he only engages you when he can do those things to you .
      The way to beat him is to bring pressure and of all things you’d have to throw him and find a way to stay top without being swept. Traditional wrestling takedowns won’t work but he’s been easily thrown by guys with good stand up .

    • @daviddugan6046
      @daviddugan6046 4 роки тому

      Chandiwira Beza yes true , that is how buchecha had some success plus he was much younger . I started Jiu jitsu at 35 in 2007 , I am 48 train once a week , my neck is so jacked you wouldn’t believe me

    • @FraldinhoBJJ
      @FraldinhoBJJ 4 роки тому +2

      David Dugan yessir . Buchecha did well too but roger knew he had some tendencies that wouldn’t serve him well. There was some basically genius level guy who posted a video here on UA-cam about how roger won that last fight too and it was amazing. 12 years of Jiu jitsu and some of the concepts he talked about were so obvious but high level I just had to scratch my head. Makes you realize how a lot of Rogers success is just sheer intellectually driven . He’s smart and he uses it

    Man, I’m going to get flamed for this but everyone knows Roger uses the basics and mastered them to the highest level. From my view, these moves don’t require special strength or flexibility. Why does Roger crush everyone? It’s gotta be those long limbs, his height. He literally reached above and around Drysdale’s back and had his hand comfortably on Robert’s armpit, making it way, way easier to convert to a gi pull to pull himself around to back mount. All elite blackbelts have good basics to apply and use these moves, but his height and reach change everything.

    • @chrismasseybjj
      @chrismasseybjj 2 роки тому +3

      Interesting point for sure. BJJ is just about technique though, it’s about using what you have an as an advantage and for Roger that’s his height and limbs. Also he literally ripped a gi so his strength is probably ridiculous

      I’ve heard people say the same thing about soccer, and it’s usually people that haven’t played and don’t understand the rules. So, I have to ask. Have you trained Jiu Jitsu? I’ve only trained for a couple of months, but feel like I have enough of a basic understanding of takedowns and what immediately follows to make those long times of standing and getting grips very intense and interesting. This was a great match from what I could tell.

      I know it's three years later... but still, comments like these are so dumb.
      1. This is sport BJJ. The Gi is a uniform. It molds the techiniques used and the strategy. American football players wear a helmet and shoulder pads, and no one says, "That's lame, no one walks around in shoulder pads."
      2. Even if you wanted to compare this to "street fighting", a Gi is WAY closer to what people actually wear. A jacket, sweater, heavier flannel shirt, etc... are all not dissimilar to a Gi. Especially in the sense that you can use those pieces of clothing to get grips.
      2a. On the other hand, no-Gi is about as unrealistic as you can get in a real world fight. Who walks around wearing skin tight spandex? Unless you're at the beach I guess...
